We hope that your break was enjoyable. At this time of the year we are already planning for end of the year school events and the upcoming school year. Please ensure that your son or daughter’s registration is in for the fall as it may affect their options for next year. Earth week will be kicking off April 13 through the 17th starting with an assembly on the Monday and ending with a school clean-up. Stay tuned for more announcements. Our bike compound is now open for students hoping to ride to school. Please ensure your child has a helmet. Some of our students will be visiting Winnipeg Harvest this month as part of the follow-up to our walkathon donation to the food bank. There will be an important Québec parent meeting Monday April 13th at 7:00 PM in the school library. Spring Photos will be on April 21st for those families hoping to order pictures for the end of the year. Student Led Conferences take place April 23rd from 4:00-8:00 PM. These conferences provide an opportunity for students to share their learning with their parents/guardians. Students show how they are involved in their own learning and demonstrate skills such as self-evaluation, making thoughtful choices, communication, organization and leadership. We look forward to seeing you on the 23rrd. A reminder, there is no school for our students Friday, April 24th. Outdoor Education Camp is this month as well starting April 29th and running through to the 1st of May. Happy spring! What is Day of Pink? It is an initiative that provides students with the opportunity to discuss the impact of bullying and how they can use their power to help create a safe and respectful school environment. On April 8th, students and staff at École River Heights School will be wearing pink shirts in solidarity to show that they are taking a stand against bullying. How did it get started? The Day of Pink began after two high school students in Nova Scotia took a stand against bullying in their school. The students asked all of their peers to wear pink to school after they heard a male classmate had been bullied for wearing a pink shirt. To continue the momentum, the Canadian Red Cross Day of Pink campaign brings together schools and communities throughout the province to wear the shirt and stand together against bullying. Bullying is not a normal part of growing up! Wear the shirt, be the difference on April 8th!
