FIRST CIRCULAR - Call for Papers and ONLINE Registration Form
Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,
The Board of MELCom International is glad to announce that the 37th annual conference will take place over three days,
from Tuesday 28 th to Thursday 30 th April 2015 (inclusive), at the Institute of Library Sciences of the Abdelhamid MEHRI
University - Constantine 2 (http://www.univ-constantine2.dz/) in Constantine (Algeria).
The local conveners are Professor Nadjia Gamouh and Professor Azzedine Bouderbane. Our hos ts are also planning to orga nize
an excursion on Friday 1st May 2015.
We are welcoming contributions on the following topics (all within the framework of Middle-Eastern collections):








Librarianship, collection development and acquis ition policies
Cataloguing policies and practices
Catalogues and bibliographies
Electronic resources and digitisation programmes
Cooperation projects between libraries holding Middle Eastern colle ctions
History of libraries, ownership and readership
Manuscripts, rare books and documents
Curre nt iss ues of information science in Middle East area studies
And any other aspect within our fields of interest
ONLINE REGISTRATION & PAPERS PROPOSALS:
All those interested in pa rticipating in the conference either as a speaker or as an attendee are require d to fill the Registration
Form online before Friday 9th January 2015 : this form is available on the MELCom Inte rnational’s website unde r the
Conferences’ tab (Conferences > Forthcoming > Registration). As from last year, all pre limina ry registrations will ONLY be
processed through this online form.
Those wishing to present a pape r during the conference are invited to inse rt an abstract (10-15 lines) in the box available for that
purpose on the online registration form. Please note that the working languages of the MELCom Inte rnational are English and
French.
For any further information about the registration process, please send your enquiries to the Secretary at
melcom.internationa [email protected].
Requests for grants: MI can afford to provide a couple of modest grants every year in order to help colleagues to attend the
conference. If you wish to apply, please forward your request to the Secretary at melcom.inte [email protected] before Friday
9th January 2015. Your request will be examined by an inde pendent Grants committee. Grantees are requested to present a
paper at the conference and are kindly asked to acknowledged MI’s subvention during the delivery of their presentation.

PRACTICALITIES:
The second circular and firm booking form to be released by mid January 2015 will contain more de tails with regard to
accommodation, travel and other practical information, the academic programme and visits to institutions. They will be
addressed only to those who have expressed their interest in joining the event by responding to this circular before 9th Ja nuary
2015. The information communicated by the s ubsequent circular may be available earlier and if so, it will be posted on the
MELCom International webs ite which you are kindly asked to check regularly.
Please bear in mind that participants have to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements and meet the ir own
expenses. However, lunch meals are graciously offered to a ll pa rticipants, courtesy of Abdelhamid MEHRI University-Constantine
2; conference speakers may benefit of further waivers (excurs ion, traditional dinne r).
Note regarding entry visa to Algeria: Those who need letters of invitations to obtain a n entrance visa to Algeria should write to
the loca l organisers (Professor Nadjia Gamouh/ [email protected] and Professor Azzedine Bouderba ne/
[email protected]) at their earliest convenience.
Most non-Algerians would need a visa to enter A lgeria, at the exception of a few countries’ citizens.
Please check with your nearest Algerian consular mission or embassy for more deta ils conce rning the visa regulations applying to
your citizenship.
Conference fees: The conference fee of €35 for individuals and €80 for commercia l pa rticipants will be colle cted in Euros during
the registration morning in Constantine. Cheques are not acce pted. Students enjoy free admission.

comme l’année passée, toutes les inscriptions prélimina ires se feront uniquement en ligne, grâce au formulaire disponible sur
le site du Melcom Inte rnational, sous la rublique Conferences > Forthcoming > inscription [fre].
Celles et ceux qui souhaitent y présenter une communication sont invités à joindre un bref résumé (10-15 lignes) de leur sujet au
formulaire d'inscription e n ligne avant le 9 janvie r 2015. Nous vous ra ppelons que langues de travail sont le fra nçais et l'anglais.

Demande de bourse : Le MELCom International tient à facilite r l’accès à son colloque annuel aux collègues ne disposant pas de
soutien financier de leur institution, et attribue ainsi cha que année quelques modestes subventions. Si vous désirez bé néficie r
d’une telle aide, veuillez soumettre votre requête à la Secrétaire (melcom.interna [email protected]) avant le 9 janvier 2015.
Votre demande sera examinée par un comité indé pendant qui décide de l’attribution de ces bourses. Les bé néficiaires sont
requis de présenter une communica tion lors de la conférence et de mentionner l’aide du MELCom International lors de leur
présentation.

RENSEIGNEMENTS PRATIQUES
Une deuxième circulaire se ra diffusée à la mi-janvier et comportera des re nseignements re latifs aux informations pratiques
(hôtels, transport), le programme scie ntifique et les visites aux institutions. Cette deux ième circula ire ne sera adressée qu'à
ceux qui auront exprimé leur souhait de participer au colloque à l'a ide du formula ire d'inscription en ligne et ce avant le 9
janvier 2015. Cependant il est possible que les informations de la de uxième circulaire soient disponibles avant cette date sur le
site du MELCom Interna tional. Veuillez le consulter réguliè rement.
Nous nous pe rmettons de vous rappele r que l'organisation du séjour ainsi que les frais impliqués sont à la charge des
participants. Toutefois Les repas de midi de tous les participants au colloque seront généreusement pris en charge par
l’Université Abdelhamid MEHRI-Constantine 2, et les conférencie rs seront de plus dispensés des frais du repas traditionnel et de
l’excursion.
Note concernant les visas d’entrée en Algérie: Les collègues nécessitant une le ttre d’invitation pour l’établissement de le ur visa
d'entrée en A lgérie sont invités à s'adresser aux organisatrices (Professeur Nadjia Gamouh/[email protected] et
Professeur Azzedine Bouderbane/ [email protected] ) dans les meilleurs délais.
Tous ressortissants non-Algérie ns (à l’exception de quelques pays) doivent être munis d’un visa lors de le ur entrée en Algé rie.
Pour plus d’information veuillez consultez les se rvices consulaires algériens de votre pays de résidence e t vérifier à temps les
conditions d’attribution de visas pour les ressortissants de votre nationa lité.
Frais d’inscription : les frais de d'ins cription -- de €35 pour les pa rticulie rs et de 80€ pour les participants commerciaux -- se ront
collectés s ur place à l'ouverture du colloque. Les chèques ne sont pas acceptés. L'accès a u colloque est gratuit pour les
étudiants.
