J LEAGUE 2014 - 2015
Boys and Girls of all abilities have the chance to play for the likes
of the Champions League Winners Real Madrid, Bayern Munich,
Barcelona or Manchester City, by joining the Dundee United FC J
League 2014-2015 season.
Now an established tradition, the DUFC J League is into its 14th
season and is set to restart on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th
September. Since its inception in 2001, the J League has seen over
7,000 participants enjoy our weekly matches at Gussie Park.
The DUFC J League has also been the start of a career in football
for many Dundee United players, including Scott Fraser, Euan Spark,
Brad Smith and Jamie Montgomery to name but a few, who have
progressed to the academy and from there into full time with the
U20’s. There are many others who are involved with SPFL clubs and
on the junior football scene.
It is not only the players who benefit from the J League; some of our
community coaches have gone on to work in the Dundee United
Academy - most notably Ian Cathro who became Academy Manager
before going on to work with the SFA , being Assistant Coach with
Portuguese top-flight side, Rio Ave and now with Valencia.
Currently we have six age groups of thirty eight teams, which we
expect to grow. Each team consists of up to nine kids, has its own
individual coach, and plays in the colours of a famous European club
in a friendly and safe family environment.
Each session lasts for one hour incorporating a warm-up and drill,
followed by two periods of seven aside football. The J League is open
to boys and girls of Primary 2 to S1 age and we encourage all to
attend regardless of ability levels.
The DUFC Champions J League has proved to be a great success over
the years with twelve teams competing in the Finals Day at Tannadice
Park. The Finals Day includes the teams coming out of the dressing
rooms, up the tunnel and on to the hallowed Tannadice turf whilst
the Champions League theme tune surrounds the stadium. It is a
great time for all of the family to come along and support the teams
on this memorable occasion. This initiative will continue again this
season with the group matches starting in January and the finals
being held in May 2015.
Completed forms should be returned to:
Gordon Grady, Community Manager, Tannadice Park, Dundee, DD3 7JW
(Cheques should be made payable to United in the Community)
