PRESS RELEASE 27 March 2013 SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT AND SFR BUSINESS TEAM HAVE SIGNED A STRATEGIC INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP TO DEVELOP TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE CITY OF TOMORROW Ondeo Systems, a subsidiary of Lyonnaise des Eaux (SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT Group) and SFR Business Team have entered into a partnership of prospective research on telecommunications infrastructures, monitoring tools and new services for the smart city of tomorrow. Ondeo Systems, a European leader in the field of remote fluid metering 1 (water, gas, etc.), together with SFR Business Team, aims to develop future solutions for cities, in France and internationally. Ondeo Systems is partnering with SFR Business Team, the French leader in Machine to Machine (M2M) telecommunications services to develop a "universal" remote metering solution adapted to the evolution of the needs of cities and their residents. This partnership aims to provide support for the exponential growth of the remote metering market, which, in water, is estimated at 20 billion dollars from now to the year 20202. In a context of growing urban development 3 and the increasing scarcity of resources, information technologies open up the path to smarter, controlled, more resource-saving management. This partnership purports to respond to these new stakes, particularly through two strategic thrusts in research and technological innovation: - The development of a "universal" remote metering solution allowing for the transport and management of all types of data on cities and their inhabitants, thanks to the use of a digital console for instance; - The implementation of a sole, so-called "single-layer" M2M telecommunications network, ensuring direct and automatic data transmission to a central system, from smart meters to an invoicing system for example. The development of universal gateways and infrastructure sharing, by eliminating duplicate networks, will minimise the cost and environmental impact of remote metering for local authorities. For the international deployment of these solutions, the two partners will rely on the Vodafone group, the leading mobile operator worldwide, and a member of SFR Business Team’s “Network Team” of international operators. In the area of remote metering, Ondeo Systems is distinguished today by its 169-MHz longrange radio frequency solution4, inter-operable (water/gas)5 and easy to deploy due to the 1 Remote automatic meter reading Source: Global Water Intelligence 3 By 2050, there will be 6.4 billion town and city dwellers on our planet, which is 70% of the world's total population. 4 Dedicated European band for royalty-free remote reading applications (Directive 2005/928/EC) 5 In June 2012, Ondeo Systems was awarded the specification and integration contract for the GrDF remotemetering system 2 absence of intermediary equipment or repeaters. It has already sold 1.5 million remote meters in Europe. Pierre Andrade, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Lyonnaise des Eaux, declares: "We are glad about this collaboration, which ties in with our innovation strategy to support cities and their residents in preserving their resources. Over the longer term, this partnership will evolve towards the co-development of new services for the controlled management of all flows and environmental data (pollution, geolocalisation, etc.) related to the emergence of smart cities." Pierre Barnabé, Executive Vice President of the SFR Business Team, likewise celebrates: "We are proud to join Lyonnaise des Eaux (SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT Group) in its innovation strategy. The combination of our respective competencies and experiences will enable us to deploy a homogeneous quality service on the world scale."
