Wenn mit der Liebsten, die dein Herz erkor,
Du heimlich-fern von Bechern und Altaren
Des Festes sein wirst und aus ihren Haaren
Die Myrthe lösest und den keuschen Flor,

Erschauern wird sie, wissend kaum wovor,
Und mädchenhafter Angst, es zu erfahren,
Senken den Blick und holde Scheu bewahren;
Du aber neigst dich flüsternd ihrem Ohr:
Sie haben dir den Lohn der Seligkeit
Für Keuschheit und Gehorsam prophezeit,
Für Fleischestod und geistige Kasteiung!
Doch du, mein Weib nun, lös den bösen Bann
In Lust und Lachen auf! Und ich, dein Mann,
Will lügenstrafen schnöde Prophezeiung!
