Student fees of $15.00 are now due. All students of FSS must pay these to cover the

On February 15th-Febuary 21st the grade 7 and 8 French immersion class of Fernie
secondary school had the chance of a lifetime. Students from Felix-Leclerc, a school in
Montreal, travelled to Fernie for an exchange. It was a great opportunity for students to
make new friends and expand their French vocabulary.
The students have been working hard fundraising for their exchange. They sold
handmade Christmas cards, all sorts of different magazines and Overwaitea gift cards.
Also they had a spaghetti dinner and a bottle drive. The fundraising paid for the Fernie
part of the exchange. The students got paired up with a student from Montreal based on
their interests. The student from Montreal stayed at their buddies or twins house, as they
were calling them. About a month before the exchange, the students from Montreal were
given the Fernie students contact information. The students texted, e-mailed, video
chatted and even talked to them on the phone. The week was full of fun activities like
scavenger hunts, skiing, mine tours, swimming, pizza parties, bonfires and going to the
skating carnival.
At 5am on the last morning, the students said their goodbyes and returned back to
their normal lives. We would like to thank all of the parents, teachers, volunteers and all
of our sponsors for their support. We can’t wait for May when the Fernie students go to
Montreal.

Les étudiants de FSS font un échange
avec l’école Félix-Leclerc de Montréal

C’était ne semaine incroyable! Les 27 étudiants de l’école Félix-Leclerc
étaient ici du 15 au 21 février. Ils passaient ce temps avec 29 étudiants de
FSS qui sont dans le programme d’immersion française en 7e et 8e années.
Tous les étudiants étaient jumelés avec un étudiant de l’autre école.
Les élèves ont passé une semaine très charge. Chaque jour, ils avaient
quelque chose à faire. Ils ont fait deux journées de ski, une visite à a mine
Greenhills, une chasse au trésor autour de la ville Fernie et aussi un aprèsmidi à la piscine. Même si la semaine d’échange était très occupée, c’était
aussi très amusant. Tous les étudiants on eu du plaisir.
Cette semaine n’aurait pas été possible sans tous les dons et l’aide
extraordinaire des parents et des enseignants de ces élèves. Merci à
TECK, la commission scolaire 5, le musée du patrimoine de Fernie et tous
les parents qui ont aidé et ont logé un étudiant de Félix-Leclerc. Merci
aussi à tous les élèves qui ont participé et contribué à cette semaine
d’échange.
