Through night dreams, through events half understood and half remembered, she comes back. Wild Woman comes to tell her story. Clarissa Pinkola Estès / Women who run with the wolves : Myths and stories of the Wild Woman Archetype Soritat is a circus and live music show, performed by the Occitan polyphonic group / La Mal Coiffée and five circus artists. On a stage covered with soil, this production for ten women is a challenging combination of the physical and the vocal, an exploration of the Wild Woman Archetype, inspired by the book Women who run with the wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estès. The contagious and sensitive energy of La Mal Coiffée’s rhythmic choir combines the aesthetic creativity of contemporary circus to explore the Life/ Death/Life cycles of the Feminine Psyche. Brought into the light of our epoch, the archetypal dimensions of their songs mingle with the physicality of the flesh. The voices find a prolongation in the movements of the five other women, circus artists and dancers, to experience sisterhood. Spattering the large soil covered square with their gestures throughout several choreographic scenes, they incarnate a repertoire of popular songs, a narration of witches swirling under the poplar tree, the Holy Mary, the girls by the fields ready to flee, ready to get married. Those ten women have their feet deeply rooted in the earth From which they draw the songs of the Seasons The passions of country women and dead princesses With the wild energy of the Pagan times, They dance in the whirlwind, Hang from branches And open the door to blood-red questions. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door. In addition to the powerful emotional feelings conveyed during the successive scenes, the artists give a highly-skilled performance of [acrobatic] prowess alternatively arousing the consternation and enthusiasm of the spectators. The spontaneous applause takes on an almost cathartic nature and after a 90 minute performance of stunning intensity, the 10 comedians meet with a unanimous triumph. A climax revealing what Art can provoke where words fail. Whilst revealing the joys and sorrows of everyday life: love, labour, celebrations and the pleasures of life, singing becomes a percussion and the rhythm a poetry, a language that batters and caresses simultaneously. In Soritat, La Mal Coiffée attempts a global experience in which the physical presence and the songs are an integral part of the performance’s aspiration. She directed Après la pluie with Christian Lucas, a production that toured over 170 times overseas. After that, she took some time to maturate more personal projects. With the creation of her company Timshel, she now devotes herself entirely to directing. Accompanied by a new team, she has given birth to an original experience Soritat. EXHIBITION To accompany the show, the company can provide for an exhibition of six wooden framed paintings by Linet Andrea, a painter and trapezist. The pieces of art were designed as an extension of the research work around Soritat and give a sensitive insight into the creative process.
