MARATHON
{Sébastien Wojdan}
"With the rage of a boxer and the stamina of a long-distance runner,
Sébastien Wojdan embarks the spectator on the razor s edge, in a show
of drawn daggers. «Marathon», the aptly named, superb universe of
punk poetry distilled in a Circus ambiance."

Circus solo, from 6 years +
Duration: 1:15 hour
Circular tribune, seating capacity: 160 (we provide for our tribune).
Premiered in January 2013, Le Grand Pré, Langueux (France)
« Marathon » is the result of my research in circus arts as a juggler, a musical
handyman, a circus-lover, a child of working-class Polish immigrants. The show
raises questions and makes me think about my place in the world, I am looking and
finding answers
Sébastien Wojdan, 2011.
Marathon is a challenge, one that consists of being alone in front of an audience and
confessing one s strengths and weaknesses. On stage, an urgency settles, conveyed
by a series of actions in the form of numerous achievements enhanced by trance
music originating in electric modernity. Whether these exploits are successful or not,
danger is present and the risk-taking significant, body temperature rises, heart beats
accelerate, hands start shaking. Slowly but surely, the mask falls. Being on stage,
simply, the truth bared
MARATHON is about Circus
A solo performer represents an orchestra, brass wind and electric guitar.
He is in a trance as if exalted and to better eclipse himself. He dances.
On stage: clubs, slack wire, knives, an axe and handstands.
Continuously pushing the limits.
Marathon does not know exactly what Circus is about
MARATHON is a shout.
That of a man facing the entire world.
To say who he is, upright, before it is too late. Perhaps before his body is no longer
capable, or not like it used to be.
To say what he likes, his dreams, his fears. To reflect on his life before continuing
To give himself up, totally, a fragile human.
ALONE in front of THE OTHERS, intimate and familiar.
MARATHON is a challenge
That of pushing back the Laws of Gravity, attaining speed and virtuosity.
On stage, these exploits act as a motor which beckon the audience. An urgency
mounts, conveyed by a series of actions whether successful or not. Danger is
present and the risk-taking significant.
MARATHON is a gift without wrapping.
For almost an hour and a half, Sébastien Wojdan offers the audience his best in a
riveting and pure performance, the results of more than 14 years of fierce labor.
He does so in a simple and generous way, uncompromisingly.
Upon entering the circular structure with a tribune of 160 seats, the audience is
invited into his universe. MARATHON can be performed in theatres, in a Big Top, in
sports halls, in schools. We can go wherever the audiences are.

Balthazar in Montpellier, then at the French National School of Circus Arts (Ecole
Nationale des Arts du Cirque) in Rosny-Sous-Bois and at the National Center of
Circus Arts (Centre National des Arts du Cirque-CNAC) in Châlons-en-Champagne

with five other artists he formed the troupe Galapiat Circus and created the show
« Risque ZérO ». Sébastien also takes part in several musical projects among which
« Ralush Baluch ». As a Jack of all trades, he was keen on undertaking all the
necessary steps for the production of his Marathon: construction of the tribune,
sewing of the curtains, writing of the promotional documents, composing the music
Insight: Gilles Cailleau
Theatrical wizzard since 1986, he has done almost every job in this field: comedian,
acrobat, set designer, lighting, handyman, writer, electrician, truck driver, production
and stage manager, musician. He is the director and a comedian of the travelling
theatre company « Attention Fragile » funded in 1999 in Marseille. He created
several pieces among which « Le tour complet du cœur » (2002), « Fournaise »
(2007) « Tout l univers en plus petit » (2009) « Gilles et Bérénice » (2011). He also
accompanies circus artists with their personal creative process as with Thomas
Reduet in «Thomas Parle d amour ». In the same way, he helped launch the show
Risque ZérO in 2008. This collaboration initiated a mutual trust and a common wish
to continue the companionship.
