Prayers for the Sick: Please pray for all the sick,
especially Brian Imeson and Ernie (Betty) Beaudoin.
May the Lord strengthen them with His healing love.
Prayers for the Deceased: Remember in prayer our
deceased loved ones, especially Father Dwayne’s sister,
Delima Adam. May they rest in peace and may the Lord
send comfort and consolation to the families.
Welcome Fr. Larry Brunet: It is a joy
to welcome Fr. Larry as the celebrant and
homilist of our weekend celebrations of
the Eucharist. Born and raised in River
Canard, St. Joseph Parish is Fr. Larry’s
home. He has given 50 years of priestly
service to a number of parishes in the
Diocese of London. May Jesus bless Fr. Larry as he
celebrates his 50th anniversary of ordination to the
priesthood (May 30th, 1965) and may He grant him
health, happiness and peace for many years to come!
the truth of Jesus’ ascension, both body and soul, into
heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father. This
is what we profess to believe in the Creed. An account of
His Ascension is found in today’s First Reading. In the
Gospel, Jesus commissions the Apostles to share the
Good News with all people and to baptize them!
From Father Dwayne: As you are aware, the retreat
that I was scheduled to attend this week was cancelled
due to the death of my sister, Delima. Thank you for your
prayers, love and support throughout this very difficult
week. Please hold me in prayer!
Merci pour votre soutiens et votre amour pendant ce
temps difficile. Je vous demande de me garder dans vos
prières.
Parish Update: The work of replacing the drainage
system on the east side of the church has been
completed. The cost incurred by the parish is $25,985.72.
We will have to withdraw money from the Diocese to pay
this bill, which means that we will need an extra
$25,000.00 loan for the work to be done on the interior
of the church.
Les réparations au drain du côté Est de l’église sont
presque terminées. Ceci nous exige d’ajouter 25 000 $ au
prêt demandé au diocèse.
Construction Update:
As per the
contract signed with Lester Construction,
the main church is “off limits to everyone
during construction”. Safety issues are a
major concern, and insurance coverage is
for workers only. Work of securing the
sanctuary floor will begin shortly. This will be a major
project that will enable the work in the dome to be
completed. More details will follow…
Pour des raisons de sécurité et d’assurances, personne ne
peut entrer dans l’église. Le premier projet sera de
sécuriser le plancher du sanctuaire. Détails à venir...
Friendly Reminders: Please use the
center double doors to enter the parish
hall for Mass. Remember that this is
now our worship space until the
restoration of the interior of St. Joseph
Church is complete. You are reminded that the Blessed
Sacrament is in our “temporary” church, so a spirit of
reverence is still requested of parishioners as you enter
for mass.
Capital Campaign:
Thank you to the numerous
families who have responded to the request for financial
assistance to complete the work of restoring the interior
of St. Joseph Church. We begin this project “debt-free”.
The money that will be borrowed from the Diocese of
London has a four year repayment plan. As we must
secure our loan repayment, it is essential that all
parishioners take an active role in offering a sacrificial
donation to the Capital Campaign. If you have not yet
done so, please return your pledge card to the parish
office or submit it in the collection basket. A door-todoor campaign in June is planned to visit those
parishioners who have not yet responded to the parish’s
request for financial help.
Congratulations to the Knights of Columbus
Council #5642, River Canard, on their 50th
Anniversary! On Friday, May 22nd, there will be a
Mass of Thanksgiving at 4:30pm in the CHURCH HALL in
honour of their 50 years in the parish. We congratulate
them and thank them for their presence and service in
our parish and surrounding area for all these years. A
banquet will follow at the Ciociaro Club to celebrate the
accomplishments of Council 5642, River Canard.
Accessibility funding:
We are
currently in the process of applying for
grant money to help cover the
renovation costs associated with the
handicapped-accessible washrooms and
the altar ramp.
Our application
requires letters of support from parishioners indicating
that the church, as it is currently configured, has barriers
that do not allow complete access. We are asking for
letters of support outlining the benefit of a completely
accessible washroom on the main floor (for mothers
with babies, the elderly, people who have had recent
surgeries, etc.) and a ramp allowing altar access for
everyone. Address your letter to “To Whom it May
Concern” and include your contact information. Please
email it to the parish or drop it off at the office as soon
as possible. Thank you very much!
Thank you from our parish K of C and our
ushers for your generous support of the sale
of lapel roses last weekend. A total of $485
was raised and will be sent to Right-to-Life.
Volunteer gardeners needed! Join
us on Thursday evenings on parish
grounds at 5pm or as soon as possible
thereafter. Many hands make light work
and we definitely could use more help!
Share your time and talents to make a difference!
