Lest We Forget, the History of the Last Post Fund, is a fast-paced,

Founded in Montreal in 1909 by Arthur Hair, the Last Post Fund has remained
true to its belief that Canada’s veterans are deserving of the nation’s gratitude.
Motivated by patriotism and compassion, the principal activity of the fund is
to provide veterans in need with a dignified burial, normally alongside their
former comrades-in-arms.

McIntyre), in 1908. At Christmastide that
year, he encountered a destitute war
veteran at a Montreal hospital. The man
died two days later. When no friends or
family claimed the body, the veteran
faced a pauper’s burial—or, as was once
commonplace, dissection for medical
research. Hair was indignant. His
intervention to secure a proper interment
for one veteran spurred him to found an
organization that would ensure no
veteran need do without a dignified
funeral and burial.

Je me souviens, l'histoire du Fonds du Souvenir, est un récit au
rythme rapide, souvent émouvant, nous parlant de défis, de remarquables
réalisations et de triomphes. Créé à Montréal en 1909 par Arthur Hair, le Fonds
du Souvenir est toujours resté fidèle à son principe selon lequel les anciens
combattants du Canada ont droit à la reconnaissance de la nation. Le
patriotisme et la compassion étant ses deux moteurs, le Fonds a pour activité
principale de permettre aux anciens combattants démunis d'être inhumés avec
dignité et habituellement aux côtés de leurs anciens compagnons d'armes.

recherches médicales. Hair en était
indigné. Son intervention pour s'assurer
qu'il eut des obsèques dignes en tant
qu'ancien combattant, l'incita à créer
un organisme qui garantirait qu'aucun
ancien combattant serait sans funérailles dignes.

Je me souviens maintient un rythme rapide, est agréable à lire et contient
plusieurs illustrations. Il confère au Fonds du Souvenir une sensibilité à l'intérieur
du contexte du déroulement de l'histoire sociale et militaire du Canada. Se basant
presque exclusivement sur des documents d'archives jamais encore consultés par
