July 1, 2016 marks the 100th anniversaries of the battles of the Somme and BeaumontHamel. This summer, the Last Post Fund is participating in commemoration ceremonies
from coast to coast. As we move through the centennial of the First World War, the national
conversation seems to echo our mission, which is as important today as it was the day of our
inauguration:
To ensure that no Veteran is denied a dignified funeral and burial, as
well as a military gravestone, due to insufficient funds at time of death.

(Ret'd), received the Meritorious Service
Medal from His Excellency the Right
Honourable David Johnston, Governor
General of Canada, at a ceremony July 13 at
the Canadian Museum of Immigration,
Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Thanks to Major James Lynch, the Signal
Hill Tattoo has grown into a major source of
tourism for Newfoundland and Labrador.
Partnering with local schools, this annual
summer attraction celebrates the province's
military history, including that of the St.
John's Volunteer Rangers, the War of 1812
and the First World War.
The Annual Commemoration Ceremony
Despite the rain, Sunday June 5th 2016 was held the annual
commemoration ceremony at the National Field of Honour in Pointe-Claire,
Qc. The guest of honour, Parlimentary Secretary to the Minister of
National Defense, Mr. John McKay, inspected the guard of honour and
addressed the crowd. The Last Post Fund would like to thank the
following: The honourable Mr. McKay, Serge Gélinas of the National
Field of Honour, Veterans Affairs Canada, Mr. Kevin McCready of Legion
branch 91, Scouts Canada and 34 Canadian Brigade group. The
commemoration ceremony happens on the first Sunday of June and has
been a very important tradition at the Last Post Fund for over 70 years.

Hello Last Post Fund,
Just to let you know I was finally able to visit the cemetery in Huntsville last year and saw
and photographed the lovely marker you placed for my great uncle Robert Melrose Hood
who somehow survived the many battles he participated in WW1. I don't know why he did
not have a marker but I do know my late father was very upset that he didn't have one
after all he had been through

Keeping up with Nadine
In the last edition of The Bugler, we introduced Nadine Carter, the student who, thanks to her
research, was able to properly honor Captain Roy Brown. Nadine is pursuing her
commemoration project and was recently invited to the Royal Canadian Military Institute to
speak with the representatives from Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame.

Dominion Convention in
Winnipeg, this August,
alongside National

First commemoration ceremony at the Field of Honour in

The New-Brunswick branch
president, Allison Gallop, attended
the first annual memorial service at
the Pioneer Gardens Cemetery
Field of Honour, in Oromocto. The
Last Post Fund was a significant
contributor to the creation of the new
memorial with a total donation of
2500,00$. The Oromocto Pioneer
Gardens Cemetery Field of Honour
is reserved for veterans who have
served in the military, police and
fire service. The Field of Honour is
governed by standards set by the
Last Post Fund and OPGCCI.

Le 1er juillet 2016 marque les 100e anniversaires des batailles de la Somme et de
Beaumont-Hamel. Cet été, le Fonds du Souvenir participe à des cérémonies
commémoratives, d'un océan à l'autre. Le centenaire de la Première Guerre mondiale se
déroule et amène une discussion nationale qui semble miroiter notre mission, qui est aussi
importante aujourd'hui qu'elle l'était le jour de notre inauguration:
De veiller à ce qu'aucun vétéran ne soit privé de funérailles et d'une
inhumation dans la dignité, ainsi que d'une pierre tombale militaire, à
cause d'un manque de ressources financières au moment de son
décès.

Décoration pour service méritoire de son

le 13 juillet lors d'une cérémonie au Musée
canadien de l'immigration à Halifax, NovelleÉcosse. Grâce au Major James Lynch, le
Tattoo de Signal Hill s'est développé puis
est devenu une source de tourisme pour
Terre-Neuve et Labrador. S'associant à des
écoles voisines, cet événement estival
célèbre l'histoire militaire de la province,
incluant celle de la Garde volontaire de StJohn, la Guerre de 1812 et la Première
Guerre mondiale.
La Cérémonie Commémorative Annuelle
Dimanche le 5 juin 2016, la cérémonie commémorative annuelle s'est
déroulée malgré la pluie, au Champ d'Honneur National, à Pointe-Claire,
Qc. L'invité d'honneur, le Secrétaire parlementaire du ministre de la
Défense nationale, Mr. John McKay, inspecta la garde d'honneur, puis
adressa la foule. Le Fonds du Souvenir aimerait remercier les
personnes suivants: L'honorable M. McKay, Serge Gélinas, gérant du
Champ d'Honneur National, Anciens Combattants Canada, M. Kevin
McCready de la Légion filiale 91, Scouts Canada et le 34e Groupe
Brigade du Canada. Cet événement, une tradition de haute importance
pour le Fonds du Souvenir, se déroule le premier dimanche de juin,
depuis plus de 70 ans.
Un petit mot de remerciement...
Bonjour Fonds du Souvenir,
Je tenais à vous avisez que j'ai finalement eu la chance de visiter le cimetière Huntsville,
l'an dernier. J'ai vu et photographié la jolie pierre tombale que vous avez placé pour mon
grand-oncle Robert Melrose Hood, qui a survécu à des nombreux combats lors de la
Première Guerre mondiale. Je ne sais pas pourquoi aucune pierre n'avait été placée, mais
mon defunt père en était tourmenté, après tout ce que son oncle avait vécu.
Merci beaucoup d'avoir rectifié la situation.

À la poursuite de Nadine
Dans la dernière édition du Clairon, nous vous avons présenté Nadine Carter, l'étudiante qui,
à l'aide de ses recherches, a su honorer le Capitaine Roy Brown. Nadine poursuit son projet
de commémoration et fut invité à l'Institut Royal Militaire du Canada pour discuter avec le
comité du Panthénon de l'Aviation du Canada.

Souvenir est un des
principaux contributeurs à la
création du nouveau Champ
d'Honneur avec un don de
2500$. Le Champ
d'Honneur du Pioneer
Gardens est reservé aux
vétérans qui ont servi dans
les forces armées, la police
ou le service d'incendies.
Le Champ d'Honneur est
gouverné par les standards
du Fonds du Souvenir et du
Octomoro Pioneer Cemetery
