Semaine Ecole-Entreprise…
in English!
In November there was this year’s edition of the School-Business
Week, when company directors visit many junior and high schools
across France to talk to students about their different businesses.
It is organised by a group called the MEDEF, which stands for
« Mouvement des Entreprises de France .»
It’s a real eye-opener for children, because they have
to the opportunity to ask questions about so many
things that will be important for their future: what
subjects they should study, what qualifications they
will need, and how much money they could earn!
But for students at the Collège Pointe des Chateaux
in St Leu, the event was a little bit different: everything was in English! There were two of us presenting
our business activities to a group of teenagers. I tal-
ked about my job as a conference interpreter and I
was accompanied by Stéphane Jaillet, director of a
company called Opensphere which specialises in IT
security.
Then the students did a quiz about economy, and finished by asking Stéphane loads of questions in English! When they discovered he was an ‘ethical
hacker’, they were very interested indeed! It was a
great experience for us all.
