Pronunciation tips Remember not to pronounce ‘n’, ‘t’ and ‘s’ at the end of chien, lapin, chat and souris as they are silent. The silent consonant is sounded in front of a vowel sound to make the words flow more easily, e.g. to say un oiseau, the ‘n’ in un is pronounced because oiseau starts with the vowel sound {wa}.
