LATEST DECISIONS OF THE WORLD MOTOR
SPORT COUNCIL OF THE FIA REGARDING
KARTING
During its meeting on 5 July 2006 in Paris, the World Motor Sport Council
of the FIA took the following decisions regarding Karting:

The CIK-FIA will take advantage of the introduction on 1st January
2007 of the new generation of so-called “long life” 125 cc engines to
rename its Karting categories, in order for the public at large to have
better understanding of their hierarchy. The future 125 cc direct drive
kart categories will be known as KF1, KF2, KF3 and KF4. KF1 will be the
top category, KF2 will replace the current ICA (Intercontinental A), KF3
will replace the current ICA-Junior, and KF4 will be the so-called “basic”
category. Super-ICC and ICC (Intercontinental C), which are the 125 cc
gearbox categories, the technical regulations of which will undergo no
major modifications, will be respectively renamed KZ1 and KZ2, the “Z”
having been chosen because it is the international technical identification
of gearing and sprockets. The names Superkart (250 cc karts used on long
circuits), ICC-Sudam (125 cc direct drive karts used in South America) and
World Formula (4-stroke karts) have been maintained.
With a view to controlling costs, it has been decided that for any 2007 CIKFIA Championship, Cup or Trophy held on short circuits the limitation of
equipment per driver and per event will be the following: 1 single chassis
(non-qualifying practice included), 2 engines (non-qualifying practice
included) and 12 tyres (with 4 tyres for non-qualifying practice, 4 tyres for
qualifying practice and heats, and 4 tyres for the final phase).
Technical Regulations
The World Council has approved the latest clarifications regarding the
technical and homologation regulations of the future 125 cc “long life”
engines, and their homologation period has been increased to 9 years
(compared to 6 years for 100 cc engines homologated in 2004). Among

other clarifications, it must be noted that a rule will be introduced
regarding the volume of the combustion chamber of three out of the four
categories (9 cc in KF2 and KF4, 12 cc in KF3), and that the design of the
exhaust and of the ports shape will be free in KF1. For safety reasons, the
engines shall comprise a protection housing over the clutch, and only dry
batteries will be authorised. The full description of the single-type exhaust
to be used in KF3 (Junior) has also been ratified.
2007 and 2008 CIK-FIA Championships calendars
The World Council has adopted the CIK-FIA Championships, Cups
and Trophies calendars for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. The World
Championship will be held in Mariembourg (Belgium) in 2007 and in La
Conca-Muro Leccese (Italy) in 2008.

The homologation regulations have been finalised and will henceforth
include a precise description of the method of calculation of the balancing
for the design of the balancing shaft which shall be fitted to all future
“long life” engines. In order for the development and optimisation of the
future 125 cc direct drive engines to be facilitated, manufacturers will
exceptionally be allowed to apply for one homologation extension from the
first year of homologation of the engines instead of the second year only as
applied regarding all other CIK homologations.
There is a new Championship on the CIK-FIA calendar: as a supplement
to the KF1 World Cup and KF2 Asia-Pacific Championship which will still be
organised in Suzuka (Japan), KF1, KF3 and KZ2 Asia-Pacific Championships
are created and will be held in Macau. The dates and venues of the 2007
European Superkart Championship will be announced at a later date.
The detail of the changed rules and of the new regulations will shortly be available

DERNIÈRES DÉCISIONS DU CONSEIL
MONDIAL DU SPORT AUTOMOBILE DE LA
FIA CONCERNANT LE KARTING
À l’occasion de sa réunion du 5 juillet 2006 à Paris, le Conseil Mondial du
Sport Automobile de la FIA a pris les décisions suivantes en matière de
Karting :

La CIK-FIA profitera de l’introduction au 1er janvier 2007 de la nouvelle
génération des moteurs 125 cm³ dits “longue durée” pour renommer ses
catégories de Karting, afin d’offrir une meilleure compréhension de leur
hiérarchie par le grand public. Les futures catégories de karts 125 cm³
à prise directe se déclineront de KF1 à KF4, la KF1 étant la catégoriereine et la KF4 correspondant à la catégorie dite “de base”. La KF2
remplacera l’actuelle ICA (Intercontinental A) et la KF3, l’actuelle ICAJunior. Les Super-ICC et ICC (Intercontinental C), catégories des karts 125
cm³ à boîtes de vitesses dont le règlement technique ne subira aucune
modification majeure, seront renommées respectivement KZ1 et KZ2, le
“Z” ayant été retenu pour être l’identifiant technique international des
engrenages et pignons. Les noms de Superkart (karts 250 cm³ utilisés
sur circuits longs), d’ICC-Sudam (karts 125cc à prise directe utilisés
en Amérique du Sud) et de Formule Monde (karts 4-temps) ont été
maintenus.
Dans l’optique de contrôler les coûts, il a été décidé que pour tout
Championnat, Coupe ou Trophée de la CIK-FIA 2007 sur circuits courts,
la limitation de matériel par pilote et par épreuve s’établira comme suit :
1 seul châssis (essais non-qualificatifs compris), 2 moteurs (essais nonqualificatifs compris) et 12 pneus (à raison de 4 pneus pour les essais nonqualificatifs, 4 pneus pour les essais et manches qualificatifs, et 4 pneus
pour la phase finale).

règlements technique et d’homologation des futurs moteurs 125 cm³
“longue durée”, dont la période d’homologation a été portée à 9 ans (contre
6 ans pour les moteurs 100 cm³ homologués en 2004). Entre autres
précisions, il convient de noter que le volume de la chambre de combustion
sera réglementé dans trois des quatre catégories (9 cm³ en KF2 et KF4,
12 cm³ en KF3) et que l’échappement et la forme des lumières seront de
conception libre en KF1. Pour des raisons de sécurité, les moteurs devront
comporter une cloche de protection par-dessus l’embrayage et seules les
batteries sèches seront autorisées. Le descriptif complet de l’échappement
monotype qui devra être utilisé en KF3 (Junior) a également été entériné.
Le règlement d’homologation a été finalisé et comporte désormais une
description précise de la méthode de calcul du balancement pour la
conception de l’arbre d’équilibrage qui devra équiper tous les futurs
moteurs “longue durée”. En vue de faciliter le développement et
l’optimisation des futurs moteurs 125 cm³ à prise directe, les constructeurs
auront exceptionnellement le droit de demander une extension
d’homologation dès la première année d’homologation du moteur, et non
pas à partir de la deuxième année seulement comme cela est d’application
pour toutes les homologations CIK.
Calendriers 2007 et 2008 des Championnats de la CIK-FIA
Le Conseil Mondial a adopté le calendrier des Championnats, Coupes et
Trophées de la CIK-FIA pour les saisons 2007 et 2008. Le Championnat du
Monde se disputera à Mariembourg (Belgique) en 2007 et à La Conca-Muro
Leccese (Italie) en 2008.
Un nouveau Championnat fait son apparition au calendrier de la CIKFIA : en complément de la Coupe du Monde de KF1 et du Championnat
d’Asie-Pacifique de KF2 qui restent maintenus à Suzuka (Japon), des
Championnats d’Asie-Pacifique pour les catégories KF1, KF3 et KZ2 sont
créés et seront organisés à Macau. Les dates et épreuves du Championnat
d’Europe 2007 de Superkart seront annoncées ultérieurement.
