THE MAURITIUS TURF CLUB
CHAMP DE MARS – PORT LOUIS
INTERIM REPORT – SATURDAY 17 SEPTEMBER 2016
RACE 1 – THE KLAWERVLEI STUD TROPHY
The start was delayed when Blue Jeans became fractious and sat backwards in its gate with its saddle moving
backwards. It was unloaded, re-saddled and then examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and declared fit
to race. Afterwards, when horses were re-loaded, Villa Le Blanc broke through and was quickly reined in.
Shortly after, Roy’s Express and Alloy became fractious with both horses getting their hind legs caught on the
side of the gate. They were taken out, examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and declared fit to race. The
Stewards being of the opinion that the performance of Blue Jeans, Roy’s Express and Alloy were
unsatisfactory at the start, advised their respective trainers that they have to pass a barrier trial to the
satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again.
From its wide draw Blue Jeans jumped outwards and was then taken across to race behind runners. Roy’s
Express jumped outwards, crowding Eternal Love onto Nadas, with Eternal Love racing in restricted room
between Roy’s Express and Nadas for some distance. Eternal Love was then eased to secure the position on
the rails. Roy’s Express raced wide in the early stages. Alloy raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 1200 metres Villa Le Blanc had to be eased when awkward close to the heels of Nadas.
From approaching the 900 metres Alloy commenced to give ground, was not persevered with in the home
straight and was tailed off. When questioned, jockey Mansour explained that during the run Alloy was not
striding out and approaching the 900 metres commenced to give ground, as such he did not persevere with the
latter. Jockey Mansour also said that according to him, the fact that this gelding became fractious and got
unsettled in the starting stalls, probably accounted to its bad performance. A subsequent veterinary examination
of Alloy revealed no abnormality. Leaving the 700 metres Seven League Boots shifted out abruptly despite
jockey Bhundoo’s attempt to straighten it and raced wide rounding the home turn. When questioned, jockey
Bhundoo explained that Seven League Boots raced green, pricking its ears from time to time and, passing the
300 metres, changed legs and shifted out abruptly. Approaching the 200 metres Criss Cross Man was taken
out from behind Magic Jay to secure clear running. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Eternal Love

improve its position and raced wide from then onwards.

incident, jockey Ghunowa (Step To Fame) pleaded guilty to a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (d) for failing to
take the necessary steps to ensure that his mount did not interfere with Bellicosity. He was fined Rs.30,000.

position on the rails, got caught wide in the early stages and had to ease his mount and found himself further
