Minutes of the Faculty Council meeting held on
Friday, February 28, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in the
Senate Chamber, York Hall, Glendon. This
meeting of Council was attended by the following

Principal Remarks
The Principal reiterated some of the
communication he made at the previous
meetings with regards to the Ontario
Government Action Plan and noted that a
proposal for funding to improve access to
French-Language Post-Secondary Education
in Southern Ontario has been submitted and a
decision is expected shortly. Subsequently, a

proposal for a Bachelor of Science in
Psychology will be forwarded to PPC and
CASTL for their endorsement. The evaluation
of the Glendon’s physical and institutional
capacity to offer program in French will be
carried by a consultant who will be expected
to report back by end of April 2014. Partial
Designation for Glendon will be submitted to
the Government.

The Principal then gave some statistics of
students applications and noted that Glendon
has reached its targets. For the coming year,
York University registered an increase of 2%
in applications from Ontario High School
students; Glendon’s applications increased by
32%. Students from Ontario HS choosing
Glendon as their 1st choice also up by 24%
while those the other category increased by
36%. He urged all to participate in the Sunday
Open House.
Le principal donne ensuite quelques
statistiques des demandes des étudiants et
note que Glendon a atteint ses objectifs.
Pour l’année à venir, l’Université York a
enregistré une hausse de 2% des demandes
des étudiants des écoles secondaires de
l’Ontario ; les demandes pour Glendon ont
augmenté de 32%. Les étudiants des écoles
secondaires de l’Ontario qui ont choisi
Glendon comme leur premier choix ont
également augmenté de 24% tandis que
ceux dans l’autre catégorie ont augmenté de
36%. Il recommande à tous de participer à
la journée Portes ouvertes du dimanche.

J M Montsion reminded members of Council
of the Call for nominations for the Standing
Committees of Council which was sent
earlier and urged them to volunteer for the
few remaining seats. He also noted that there
are also some openings for Glendon
representatives on Senate Committees and
the Call for nominations will be sent out
shortly.
(b) CASTL
J M Montsion rappelle aux membres
l'appel des mises en candidature pour les
comités permanents du Conseil qui a été
envoyé plus tôt et les encourage à se porter
volontaires pour les sièges encore
disponibles. Il note aussi qu’il y a quelques
sièges disponibles sur divers comités du
sénat et qu’une demande de mises en
candidature sera envoyée bientôt.
(b) CNAP

were approved:

A. Dawson also presented the Report on
General Education from the Joint Committee
(PPC-CASTL). A discussion ensued and the
following motion was approved:

l’éducation générale du comité conjoint
(CDP-CNAP). Une discussion s’ensuit et
la motion suivante est approuvée :
That Council establishes an Ad Hoc
Committee to assess the impact of the BA
Matrix on students and programs with a
view to consider the requirements placed
on students and recommending possible
corrective measures and to report at the
January 2015 meeting of Council.
Que le Conseil établisse un comité ad
hoc pour évaluer l’impact du “BA
Matrix” sur les étudiants et les
programmes en vue d'examiner les
exigences imposées aux étudiants et de
recommander de possibles mesures
correctives et de faire un rapport lors
de la réunion du Conseil en janvier
2015.

D. Savard of the Curriculum Committee
presented the submissions from the following
Department: Canadian Studies, Economics,
English, French Studies, International
Studies, Mathematics, Sociology and
Translation.

All submissions were approved.

D. Harris made a presentation on
“Regenesis@York” in order to seek support from
Council members for the sustainability
referendum.
