LESSON OUTLINE
Demonstration:
The teacher briefly presents pictures of the different activities at the carnival and what you do there.
 la patinoire, la course en canot, le défilé de nuit, le jardin de sculpture, la cabane à sucre, la piste de glissade
(ice skating rink, ice canoe race, night parade, sculpture garden, sugar cabin, snow tubing slides)
Now we have to get ready to go! The teacher demonstrates specific series of commands for preparing to go to carnival
Gouin Series – pour faire du patinage à Québec (To go ice skating in Quebec)
This could be done with real winter clothing or pretend actions, or cutouts of the Bonhomme and paper clothing
 Mettez un manteau (Put on a coat)
 Mettez une tuque (Put on a winter hat)
 Mettez des bottes de neige (Put on snow boots)
 Mettez des mitaines (Put on gloves)
 Prenez le funiculaire à la ville haute (Take to funicular to the upper town)
 Allez à la patinoire (Go to the ice rink)
 Mettez des patins à glaces (Put on ice skates)
 Saluez tes amis ! (Say hello to your friends)
After a couple repetitions the teacher could ask students periodically “Did you put on your coat? Did you go to the ice rink?” (to
expose them to past tense that they will see later)
Guided Participation/Practice:
The teacher repeats the commands and students must follow along doing the appropriate action. The order of putting on
clothes may be changed on the 3rd repetition. This can be repeated several times with different endings to go to different
activities at the carnival
 à la course en canot – regardez et applaudissez (the canoe race – watch and applaud)
 au défilé de nuit – marchez et criez (the night parade - walk and yell)
 au jardin de sculpture – prenez des photos (sculpture garden - take some pictures)
 à la cabane à sucre – goûtez de la tire d’érable (sugar cabin - taste some maple taffy)
 à la piste de glissade – glissez sur une chambre à air (snow tubing - slide on a tube)
