Writer in Residence
Award-winning children’s author Caroline
Lawrence has been inspiring the boys at
King’s as ‘Writer in Residence’ this week.
With her best-selling series ‘The Roman
Mysteries’ and the excellent ‘P K Pinkerton
Mysteries’, she certainly has plenty of advice
and knowledge to impart. She has wowed us
with her fantastic assemblies and has dived
headfirst into English lessons with writing
tips and encouragement. We have learnt
about plot, characterisation, settings and
story structure and so much more. Every
lunch time in the library she has been available for book- and poster-signing for all her
fans. She even offered parents and siblings the
chance to hear her engaging and enthusiastic
words of wisdom at a Thursday evening talk
in the Fitzpatrick Reading Room. Everybody
at King’s has enjoyed this rare opportunity
to meet a creative and inspiring author and
each of us has taken away something we can
use in our own story writing. Thank you to
Mr Attwood and Mrs Beddoe for arranging
such an amazing experience and, of course, a
huge thank you goes to Caroline Lawrence
herself. Theo 3OH

Wow! The Roman workshop was a great success! All the First Form were acting, cheering and giggling
to the sound of ‘Mighty Julius Caesar’. Everyone loved it and learned about the Romans. It was a very
good experience. Ethan 1M

Word of the week:
polyglot = “Someone who knows several languages”, from the Greek words
polu (poly) = “many” and glwtta (glotta) = “tongue”.
Having studied English, French, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Greek and German, Jonny
was a true polyglot. He enjoyed reading all these languages and felt sorry for
fellows whose sad fate it was to remain monoglots.
