Descrizione
The Shatt Al Arab project racchiudel‟intero fiume Shatt Al-Arab, il fiume Tigri fino al 237simo
km, a monte dello sbarramento di Kassarah, e il fiume Eufrate fino a Nasiriyah e ii loro
affluenti.
L‟unica sorgente di acqua fresca che possa
soddisfare tutte le future richieste di acqua
nell‟area di progetto dello Shatt Al Arab è
l‟acqua superficiale nei fiumi e nelle zone
paludose poiché a causa dell‟alta salinità delle
acque di falda le rende non adatte
all‟irrigazione.
Le principale e strutture e infrastrutture per
l‟irrigazione e la fognatura progettate per lo
sviluppo
agricolo
in
questo
progetto,
comprendono la fornitura dell‟acqua per
irrigare e dispositivi di sistema fognario, così
come le soluzioni tecniche per i canali principali.
Dopo un rilievo di ricognizione del suolo dell‟intera area di Progetto di circa 160,000 ha, è
stata proposta per future irrigazioni e miglioramenti fognari solo un area di circa 100,000 ha.
Questa scelta è stata presa asecondo le condizioni del suolo e limitazioni dovute alle principali
dighe esistenti, presenza di paludi, industrie e aree municipali.
Questa è stata identificata come il dominio del presente progetto.L‟area del fiume Tigri
incluso nello studio agricolo va dall‟intersezione
del canale Nahr Abu Saraifah (appena fuori
dell‟area presa in considerazione) a Qurnah.
Due complessi per l‟irrigazione e la fognatura
hanno i propri confini sul fiume Tigri..
Lungo il fiume Eufrate, l‟area di progetta va da
Modainah (confine orientale del progetto) a
Qurnah.
