Depuis le milieu du XIXe siècle, les oliviers prospèrent en Australie. Chester Osborne a donc décidé de créer une cuvée nommée The Olive Grove
(l'oliveraie).
« The appearance is pale with a brilliant straw colour and clear hue. The aromas are fresh, tight and light. The dominating notes are of melted butter and
popcorn, white peach stones and nectarines. As the wine opens there is a mix of ripe red apple, spices, cinnamon and citrus, with a hint of oak. The palate
is soft and very refreshing though its weight is quite deceptive. With characters of green melon rind, ripe fig and ripe apple, it has a moderate level of
concentration, depth and persistence to the finish. The level of fine acidity suggested by the noticeable mineral notes really suppresses the level of
ripeness, but also suggests the wine needs time to develop. This is a lovely dry, medium bodied wine that is most enjoyable now and will continue to
develop further complex fruit and bottle age characters over the next 8 to 10 years from release. »
Tony Keys, The Key Review of Wines, December 2008 :
« Sound Chardonnay nose sits well in the mouth ; all parts in the right places. Travels well — a good wine. »
James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion :
« Plenty of ripe stone fruit and melon ; oak a minor support role ; easy-access style. »
Wine Spectator :
« Full-bodied, supple and generous with its minerally pineapple and caramel flavors. Stays lively through the juicy finish. »
Wine Enthusiast :
« This plump, medium-bodied Chardonnay boasts aromas and flavors of smoke and grilled pineapple. It may be a little on the simple side, but it's well
done, combining ample varietal character with an appetizing bit of oak. »
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate :
« The 2007 The Olive Grove Chardonnay is in the style of a quality Macon-Villages. It did not go through malolactic fermentation, was raised in
stainless steel, and spent time on its lees. The nose has a mineral character along with green apple and pear. This leads to a flavorful, crisp wine with
good depth and a sprightly finish. Drink it over the next 1-2 years. »
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar :
« Light yellow. Ripe melon and poached pear complemented by a subtle vanilla note. Surprisingly lively in the mouth, with zesty citrus and orchard fruit
flavors and good spicy lift. Gains focus on the melony finish. An easygoing, uncomplicated style. »
Cépage : chardonnay.

Vinification séparée selon les terroirs.

30 % du volume sont vinifiés en barriques neuves d'origine française et américaine. Le reste est vinifié en cuves afin de préserver la fraîcheur du fruit.
The Wine Doctor :
« The d'Arenberg Winery has its roots in 1912, when Joseph Osborn purchased Milton Vineyards in McLaren Vale. The business has remained in the
family ever since, at first selling grapes to local wineries, but by 1928 they were vinifying the harvest themselves, following the construction of their own
winery and cellars. It was the third generation, however, in the form of Francis d'Arenberg Osborn, who really made his mark on the world of wine.
Under Francis'leadership the business began to produce wines which consistently picked up awards and medals in both Australian and international wine
shows. The fourth generation of the family, Chester d'Arenberg Osborn, is now chief winemaker, following in the footsteps of his father, who now fills
the role of managing director.

The d'Arenberg wines are produced from the fruit of two McLaren Vale vineyards, although this is complimented by the purchase of a large amount of
fruit from local growers. The d'Arenberg vineyards are either dry farmed or minimally drip irrigated, with cover crops and regular manuring to improve
the health of the soil. The family claim to use only minimal amounts of chemical sprays. For the top wines, vineyard practices such as pruning and
harvesting are mostly performed by hand, although mechanical methods are employed for the lesser wines. This commitment to quality continues into the
winery, where there is rigorous selection, gentle basket pressing and fermentation in oak for some wines. »
