YOU ARE THE SALT… YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
YOU ARE THE SALT…
YOU ARE THE LIGHT
OF THE WORLD
(Mt 5,13-16)
"You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything
but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the
house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly
Father. (Matthew 5:13-16)
Isaiah 58:8-11; 60:19
1. Your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and your healing shall spring up quickly;
your vindicator shall go before you,
the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. You are light…
2. Then you shall call and the Lord will answer;
you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am.
If you remove the yoke from among you,
the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil,
if you offer your food to the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the afflicted,
then your light shall rise in the darkness
and your gloom be like the noonday. You are light…
3. The Lord will guide you continually,
and satisfy your needs in parched places,
and make your bones strong;
and you shall be like a watered garden,
like a spring of water, whose waters will never fail. You are light…
4. The shall no longer be your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
give light to you by night;
but the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory. You are light…
From a letter of Saint Ignatius to the Jesuit fathers of Leuven, on Christmas’ Eve, 1547
Preghiera 14
Dear Fathers, your have taken upon yourselves a very grave duty: to lead a life of holiness and piety… I
am confident that you will perform this duty since I trust in God who is the Giver of all good and perfect gifts. You
entirely devoted yourselves to him, and from his goodness you have received these holy desires and even your
vocation itself, which is not an ordinary pledge.
Moreover, I am convinced that you will find a most welcome help in community life. Through it a fellow
Jesuit can help in word and deed, in order to raise the other when he is fallen, to support him when he is wavering,
to exhort him when is weakening.
In this way you will share with each other the grace you have received, and thus open yourselves to
receive new grace from the Father of all light. (MHSI, Ep. I, 659-660)
Prayer in silence
Intercessions
come in cielo così in terra.
Dacci oggi il nostro pane quotidiano,
e rimetti a noi i nostri debiti
come noi li rimettiamo ai nostri debitori,
e non ci indurre in tentazione,
ma liberaci dal male.
Orazione
R. Amen.
