MODIFICATION DE LA DECISION
La Mission permanente de l'Australie a fait parvenir au secretariat la
communication ci-après en date du 7 février 1979-
Le gouvernement australien porte à la connaissance des parties contractantes
qu'il a décidé, à compter du 22 février 1979, d'exempter les importations de
cognac des mesures temporaires s'appliquant aux importations de brandy}conformément à l'article XIX de l'Accord général.
Le cognac sera classé comme il convient dans le Tarif douanier de l'Australie
pour refléter le traitement qui va être accordé aux importations de cognac.
Les dispositions concernant l'assistance temporaire continueront de
s'appliquer a. tous les "brandies à base de raisins autres que le cognac en
attendant que le gouvernement ait reçu et examiné le rapport de la Commission
d'assistance aux industries sur les besoins d'assistance à long terme de
l'industrie des alcools de bouche.
Il sera alloué des contingents tarifaires pour une nouvelle période de
six mois à compter du 22 février 19795 suivant les mêmes modalités
qu'actuellement.

MODIFICATION OF ACTION
The following communication, dated 7 February 19795 has been received from
the Permanent Mission of Australia.

The Australian Government wishes to advise the contracting parties that it
has decided, with effect from 22 February 1979» to exempt imports of cognac from
the temporary measures applying to the importation of brandy, in accordance with
Article XIX of the General Agreement.
An appropriate classification will be provided within the Australian customs
tariff to reflect the treatment to be accorded to imports of cognac.
Temporary assistance arrangements will continue to apply to all grape brandies
except cognac pending receipt and consideration by the Government of the
Industries Assistance Commission Report on the long-term assistance needs of the
potable spirits industry.
Tariff quota entitlements will be allocated for a further six months with
effect from 22 February 1979 on the same basis as at present.
