The Responsible of Caritas-Développement-Santé Kisantu in DRC for 2014 : Unfailing support of
the Bishop and staff skills

Kinshasa, 24 February 2014 ( caritasdev.cd ) : Caritas -Development- Health
Kisantu in the South West of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has
started a new year of operations in early 2014 . In this regard, in an interview
in Kinshasa caritasdev.cd ( read in full below) , Sister Emily MULLEN Caritas Development- Health Kisantu stated that: "We count on the continued support
of our Bishop and the skills of our staff . " This nun is the Coordinator of
Caritas -Development- Health Kisantu , located in the province of Bas- Congo.
Sister Emily Mullen also said in this interview (dated February 13, 2014 ) and
as lessons learned in 2013 on the implementation of projects must ensure
proper monitoring in the field and good communication with the target
populations . The nun said about the land where the Caritas -DevelopmentHealth Kisantu conducts its projects in general, security is good , " despite the
fact that we were burgled last year. The population is receptive , but it
requires that there is a good collaboration and communication in project
development , "says caritasdev.cdQuestion (Q) : Pour cette nouvelle année 2014 qui a commencé, quels sont les projets
qu’est en train de mener la Caritas-Développement-Santé Kisantu ?
Answer (A ) : If one starts with Caritas , it just started a project in collaboration with Caritas Congo and the other two dioceses
of Bas- Congo , Matadi and Boma , for the promotion of key family practices. This project uses faiths as a communication
channel to promote essential practice. These are hand washing , use of insecticide-treated nets , immunization of children,
home treatment of diarrhea , etc. . Caritas also has a program to assist people in human mobility. This mainly Angolans in the
border parishes in number 4 ( Kimvula , Ntombombo , Kinkosi - Luidi and Ngidinga ) . Currently working for the education of
children and we will start a women's literacy project. Diocesan Office for Development , there are several agricultural
development projects . All these projects involve increased production , marketing and the creation of agricultural cooperatives.
The ultimate goal is to enhance food security in the region. We work with several partners: Misereor , Alboan , DCL and Caritas
Norway. We are local executing agency for agricultural recovery in the province of Bas- Congo. For the Diocesan Office of
Medical Works (Catholic) , there has to report to support the Health Zone Kimvula project funded by Misereor . There is a
program implementation approach family kit in the Health Zone Mbanzangungu funded by UNICEF . There is the support for
tuberculosis financed by the Global Fund in collaboration with Caritas Congo Asbl program. We are in the process of signing the
agreement with Memisa for a program of primary health care in the areas of health and Gombe - Matadi Kisantu . In the latter
program , the hospital Kisantu will be strengthened as a training center for other hospitals.Nous sommes Agence locale

Q: What are the strengths on which account the Caritas-Development-Health Kisantu in 2014 to successfully carry out its many
projects and other activities?
A: We rely on the continued support of our Bishop and the skills of our staff.
Q: What do you personally most marked for 2013 with regard to the Caritas-Development-Health Kisantu and projects it has
carried out?
R: What struck me most was the commitment and creativity of the staff and the support of our partners. In general as lessons
we have learned is that you ensure proper monitoring of field and good communication with the target populations.Q : Avezvous un plan de communication au niveau de la médiatisation des activités de la Caritas-Développement-Santé Kisantu en cette
année 2014 ?
A: For the communication plan, we asked each Director to prepare this was a page about a quarter of its projects. Then many
partners ask us to send them real stories ("success story"), the stories they can share with benefactors.
Q: Do you plan activities for capacity building of staff of Caritas-Development-Health Kisantu?
A: Yes, we have the internal capacity when we organize experience sharing between our agents. This is internally. Externally,
we try to take advantage of training courses organized by our partners. There are also training sessions organized by Axyom
which are very relevant.
Q: Who are the agents (and their functions) with which the Caritas-Development-Health Kisantu is working in the year 2014?
A: We have 65 agents and offices on the ground.
The Diocesan Office of Medical Works there is a medical director, an administrative assistant, a nurse supervisor and two
nutritionists.
The Diocesan Office of Development there is the Director, assisted by three project managers, one administrative assistant, 6
supervisors and thirty agronomists.
For Caritas, the Director works with the Sister in charge of pastoral migration and 1 assistant. We also have our finance team
(four officers) and our logistics team (eight).
Q: What is your word to your colleagues in the Caritas-Development-Health Kisantu?
A: We have been given a mission, which is to work with local people to promote their well-being.
We were given no resources for our good, but for the sake of that population.
Q: What do you say about the land where the Caritas-Development-Health Kisantu conducts its projects among others in terms
of security and the susceptibility of the population? R : En général, la sécurité est bonne, malgré le fait que nous avons été
victime d’un cambriolage l’année dernière. La population se montre réceptive, mais elle demande qu’il y ait une bonne
collaboration et communication lors de l’élaboration de projets.
Q: Before we get to the last question of our interview, we may know you, my sister?
R: I am a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur and I am an American citizen. I made my final vows in 1971. I arrived in Congo
(Kinshasa) for the first time in 1969. I am a public health nurse. I work in the diocese of Kisantu since 1998 first as Director of
the Diocesan Office of Medical Works and then since 2003 as Coordinator of Caritas-Development-Health Kisantu. [029/2014]
