My work
My role: Senior Human Resources Planning Advisor for the Federal Government of Canada, in the
Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Ottawa. My role is related to HR Planning. I provide
advice for managers/ directors in completing the HR Plans for their units and people management
strategies, also contributing to the succession planning framework.
Soft skills: Ability to collaborate with clients/HR disciplines in order to provide other integrated
services to clients/promote the understanding of HR’s added value to clients.
Hard skills: Ability to do integrated HR planning/understand clients’ business lines and
challenges/ability to develop tools and guidelines in terms of HR planning.
My company: Because of the nature of our business, we focus more on how to continuously improve
our services to Canadians.
How it started: Once I realised my interest was in people management, I only applied for jobs in HR.
I’ve worked all the way up from HR Assistant, to Senior HR Advisor.
My world
Culture shock: I find Quebec French is very different from Parisian French. It took me a long time to
adjust to it.

Why choose an international career?
I immigrated to Canada in 2002, even before I attended Audencia. That’s why I stayed in Canada
after I graduated. In a different cultural environment it is important to observe more and judge less.

☛ If you know what your dream job would be, stay focused and only look for those positions that can
lead you to fulfil your dreams. For students who want to work in human resources, I recommend
joining the HRPA (Human Resources Professionals Association).
