Step-by-Step Update
Dear User,
You will need a Windows PC with fast internet access in order to perform an
online update. The amount of data that needs to be downloaded to your PC can be
very high depending on the model you purchased and maps (up to 3 GB and
greater). Therefore, we recommend a fast DSL connection (min. 2,000 kbit/s, 16,000
kbit/s preferred) so that your wait time when downloading is not unnecessarily
extended. Mobile internet connections are not suitable for this purpose.
Please be aware that you may incur costs from your internet service provider
depending on your chosen Internet plan. There are no costs from our part –
downloading the BlauUp update tools as well as the update itself is free of
charge!
Please connect your navigation system to your PC only after registration and
installation of the online update tools (Step 3 in these instructions).
Step 1 – Registering and logging into the Blaupunkt service portal:
Navigate to this website using your browser www.blaupunkt.de/navigation/download/.
From there, click on “Don’t have an account?”
2
Now fill out the fields on the registration form with your data. A * denotes fields that
are mandatory, all other information may be provided voluntarily. Please memorize or
make a note of your freely selectable username and freely selectable password!
Please leave the customer type setting on Private customer if you are not a dealer.
You will only receive updates if you have registered as a private customer.
Read the privacy policy and click on the button in order to agree to the terms. Enter
the security code in the last empty field and then click on “Register”.
3
You have now successfully created a user account and you will subsequently receive
an e-mail from us containing a link. Please click on the link as it leads directly to the
log-on screen.
Our confirmation e-mail is then immediately sent out to you. In case you did not
receive it directly, then have your e-mail client retrieve new mail again and or check
your SPAM or Junk E-mail folder.
Please enter your log-in data now (username and password), which you have
selected in the previous step.
Next, associate your purchased navigation system with your user account. Here you
can also successively register more devices. In order to do so, click on “Register
your new product”.
Choose your device and enter the serial number:
Please note that older TravelPilot models, e.g. TravelPilot Lucca or TravelPilot 700
cannot be registered.
Step 2 – Download and installation of the online update tools:
Your registered device will appear on the website after completing device
registration. The Updates column contains a Download Updater link, which takes
you to the download page of the appropriate online update tool:
4
Save this file in your download folder on your PC. Execute the file by right-clicking on
the BlauUp_install.exe file and choosing run as administrator to begin the
installation process.
If you download the file with Internet Explorer and have the SmartScreen filter
activated, then you will receive an error notification stating that the file is not
commonly downloaded and could thus potentially damage your computer:
The program is not harmful to your computer. Ignore this warning, click on Actions
and in the following window, click on run anyway.
Should a “Run” dialogue box fail to appear immediately followed by
and the installation wizard does not promptly start, then please cancel and
temporarily disable any anti-virus software that may be installed.
Now follow the instructions in the setup program.
5
BlauUp should automatically run after the last window if you have clicked
on the corresponding check mark.
Step 3 – Preparing your navigation system for an online update:
Turn on your navigation system and wait until the navigation program has loaded.
Before connecting your navigation system via USB, please disconnect other
USB media presently connected to your PC such as e.g. USB memory sticks,
USB card readers to avoid conflicts or other impedances.
Now connect your navigation system to your PC using the included USB cable.
Please make sure that the magnetically attachable USB connector cable on the
MotoPilot is correctly installed and that it does not come loose during the update
process.
Afterwards this question appears: Would you like to connect the device to the
computer? Click on yes, now an image with a connection symbol appears.
If this question does not appear, then check whether your device is set to USB mass
storage mode.
Set the device to USB mass storage mode by selecting Settings → Hardware →
USB Mode → Mass Storage in the menu and confirm the subsequent questions with
yes.
6
If a window asking to format the internal storage memory appears, then you must
click on cancel. The storage memory must not be formatted!
If you are unable to subsequently connect the navigation device to your PC, then pull
the USB cable from your PC and connect it shortly afterwards.
Step 4 – Update via the online updater BlauUp:
You will now see the following window on your PC:
Enter the log-in data from your service portal registration here.
7
The following window will appear if the navigation device is connected to your PC:
The software installed on your device will now be shown. Here is an example:
Model: TravelPilot 40
Software Version: 3.1.1
Map Data: TomTom Central Europe with Date
Supplementary Update: TomTom European Speed Camera Data
If you have a voucher code, enter it in the 13-digit voucher code field and click on
“Check for update”.
Should there be no update despite entering the voucher code, please check whether
the voucher code was entered correctly and if necessary, repeat the last step. You
may use lower case or upper case letters.
You will then obtain the update options appropriate for your device and status.
8
Click on your desired option (blue box):
Some options can only be selected together, while others only appear if another
previously-required update had been applied.
Now click on “Install update” and wait until the status bar reaches 100% and the
update complete message appears:
This process can last from a few minutes to several hours depending on the update
data volume and your Internet connection speed. In the meantime, you may continue
to use your PC normally, but you should avoid any additional data-intensive
9
connections for the duration of the update process, such as e.g. voluminous
downloads/uploads or video chats.
Click on OK to confirm the dialogue box and disconnect the USB cable after a
successful update. The device will now restart. Now verify the device’s functionality
and familiarize yourself with the new functions.
After a successful update, you may be presented with additional supplementary
updates, which you will receive if you restart the online updater and check for
updates.
If something malfunctions, then you can easily and quickly restore your device to an
earlier state using the “restore backup” option in BlauUp:
Your device will now be automatically restored to the respective software state. You
can subsequently execute the failed update once more.

Common problems and their solutions:
•
Problem:
Solution:
The update process becomes interrupted during data transmission.
Make sure that the PC does not go into sleep or stand-by mode if it is not
used for a long period of time.
Use a fast internet connection e.g. DSL. Mobile internet connections such
as UMTS and WLAN are less stable and thus, less suitable.
Disable anti-virus programs before updating and close any other
programs that may access the navigation device’s storage memory.
•
Problem:
Solution:
The update process takes too long
During the download, you should preferably abstain from running or
executing programs, which also require high-volume data transmission
via your Internet connection, since this will unnecessarily divide your
Internet connection’s available bandwidth. This can unnecessarily
lengthen download times.
Use a fast internet connection e.g. DSL.
•
Problem:
Solution:
The navigation device cannot be connected to the PC
Make sure that the device is set to mass storage mode. To do this, go to
Settings→ Hardware → USB Mode→ Mass Storage in settings and
confirm the subsequent questions with yes.
Disconnect the USB cable from the PC and reconnect it shortly
thereafter. Confirm the dialogue box Would you like to connect the
device to the computer? with yes.
•
Problem:
BlauUp reports that a newer version of the update tools is available and does
not update automatically.
Solution:
Reinstall the BlauUp online updater, which you have downloaded from
the service portal. In order to do so, execute the file by right-clicking on
the BlauUp_install.exe file and choosing “Run as administrator”.
Sign into the service portal again with your log-in information at
www.blaupunkt.de/navigation/download/ and download the current online
updater by clicking on Download Updater .
•
Problem:
No update is found in the online updater and the following notification is
displayed: Status: expired.
Solution:
The 30-day update period for the first update has expired. Enter the
voucher code. You can find the code on the update service card.
•
Problem:
No update is found in the online updater even though the voucher code was
entered
Solution:
Check whether the activation code was correctly entered and repeat the
process.
The update period for the free 30-day update (for the Black Card) or 2year update (for the Gold Card) has expired. You may optionally
purchase an update at our online shop located at the following address:
http://www.blaupunkt-store.de/
Please contact our customer service centre.
•
Problem:
When connecting the navigation system to the PC, a prompt appears stating
that the storage memory is not formatted and that it must be formatted.
Solution:
Click on Cancel. The internal storage memory must not be formatted
under any circumstances! If the device is subsequently not recognized by
11
the online updater, then disconnect the USB cable from the navigation
system and reconnect it shortly thereafter.
