Governments of Canada and British Columbia investing in Highway 16 improvements

TERRACE ʹFrom visiting friends and relatives to getting goods to market, we rely on our roads,
bridges and highways to support a vibrant economy and great quality of life. Investing in
modern transportation infrastructure will help create jobs and grow the middle class now,
while building the foundation for a strong economic future.
That is why the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia (B.C.) today
announced $37,737,949 to improve Highway 16. The project includes the construction of five
additional passing lanes along Highway 16, as well as an upgrade to the junction of Highway 16
and 37 in Terrace, where there is currently a four-way stop.
Once completed, the project will improve safety and traffic flow for all highway users, including
local residents, tourists and commercial drivers by providing additional opportunities to safely
pass slower-moving vehicles. It will also support future economic development in the region by
contributing to a more efficient transportation network in northern British Columbia.

lanes on highways 16 and 37. We͛ve already built three and this new investment means five
more safe opportunities to pass slower vehicles. Another one of our provincial priorities is to
provide better access into communities, and upgrading the junction of highway 16 and 37 will
ease congestion and improve traffic flow through Terrace.͟

Expansion Project through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component - National
and Regional Projects.
The Government of British Columbia is contributing $21,630,523 for a total estimated

project cost of $37,737,949.
The five passing lanes will be built at:
ƕ Rainbow Hill, 30 kilometres east of Prince Rupert;
ƕ Toboggan Lake near Smithers;
ƕ Tyhee Lake, east of Telkwa between Houston and Smithers;
ƕ Broman Lake near Burns Lake; and
ƕ Cluculz Lake Hill, about 40km west of Prince George.

Les gouvernements du Canada et de la Colombie-Britannique investissent dans l͛amélioration
de la route 16
TERRACE ʹQue ce soit pour aller rendre visite à des amis et à des parents ou pour acheminer
des marchandises vers les marchés, nous nous fions à nos routes, ponts et autoroutes pour
appuyer une économie dynamique et une qualité de vie supérieure. Les investissements dans
des infrastructures de transport modernes contribueront à créer des emplois et entraîneront la
croissance de la classe moyenne tout en jetant les bases d͛une solide croissance économique.
C͛est pourquoi le gouvernement du Canada et la province de Colombie-Britannique (C.-B.) ont
annoncé aujourd͛hui un investissement de 37 737 949 $ en vue d͛améliorer la route 16. Le
projet prévoit la construction de cinq voies de dépassement supplémentaires le long de la
route 16, ainsi que l͛amélioration de la jonction des routes 16 et 37 à Terrace, où il y a
actuellement un arrêt à quatre sens.
Une fois terminé, le projet contribuera à améliorer la sécurité et la fluidité de la circulation pour
tous les usagers de la route, notamment les résidents locaux, les touristes et les chauffeurs de
véhicules utilitaires en leur offrant de nouvelles possibilités de dépasser les véhicules qui
roulent plus lentement. Cela stimulera également le développement économique futur de la
région en aménageant un réseau de transport plus efficace dans le Nord de la ColombieBritannique.
