Survived by his wife Avis, 3 children and 3 grandchildren. “Stan employed his talents close to home and abroad.” A colleague wrote: “My memories of working with Stan at the Rockyview Emergency are of him always smiling, no matter what organized chaos was taking place.” CARBONE, RENZO , Etobicoke, Ont.; University of Bologna (Italy), 1950. Died Nov. 28, 2014, aged 87. Survived by his wife Giuliana, 5 children and 7 grandchildren. “He practised for 53 years in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., and Toronto.” A former patient wrote: “I remember him making house calls when I was a little girl. [I grew up] as an immigrant in Sault Ste. A patient wrote: “Sad news — they don’t make doctors like him anymore.” ELKIN, DAVID, Côte Saint-Luc, Que.; McGill University, 1952; plastic surgery. Died Nov. 14, 2014, aged 91. Survived by 3 children and 8 grandchildren. “He was a veteran and a doctor who touched the lives of so many.” JEWETT, MARIE A. , Etobicoke, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1943. Died Dec. 18, 2014, aged 93. Survived by 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. “She graduated from medical school at age 21. With 5 young children, she delayed establishing her own practice. A former colleague wrote: “He was a friend and mentor who talked me into the anesthesia field, and then directed my post-graduate training so I could be a partner in the group of anesthetists at the Kingston General.” MILETTE, ROSAIRE, Drummondville (Qc); Université Laval, 1950; anesthésiologie. Died Dec. 7, 2014, aged 82. Survived by his wife, Marie. “Tony loved nature, art, music and politics, and was never one to pass up a good debate.” TOFFOLO, DENNY, Stoney Creek, Ont.; McMaster University, 1984; family medicine. Died Dec. 13, 2014, aged 59. Survived by his wife Nancy. “He was a vascular surgery assistant at Hamilton Health Sciences and thought of the vascular surgery team as his family at the hospital. He was also an expert fly fisherman and tier of flies who caught — and always released —the most beautiful trout.” VAUGHAN, J. AVERY, Windsor, NS; Dal- housie University, 1947; general surgery. Died Dec. 6, 2014, aged 92. Survived by his wife Helena, 2 sons, 2 stepsons, 6 grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild. “His medical career lasted some 58 years, and included daily house calls that often involved travelling great distances. He continued to do this into his 90s.” WHARTON, DAVID J., Calgary; University of Alberta, 1966; family medicine. Died Dec. 2, 2014, aged 72. Survived by his wife Elaine, 3 children and 2 grandsons. “He was in the first residency program for FPs at the Calgary General Hospital, and even after retiring in 2008 he enjoyed learning the latest in medicine.
