Position Description Role: Community Bus Driver / Aged Services Assistant - Casual Department/Section: Community Development/ Aged and Disability Services Reports to: Community Transport Coordinator WORKING AT MOSMAN COUNCIL Members of the Mosman Council staff team are expected to be: Ethical Excellent communicators Committed to customer service Technically and professionally competent, with a pride in keeping their knowledge current Focussed on solutions Team players MAIN PURPOSE The main purpose of this position is to provide safe, careful and responsible transport to older people, people who are frail, younger people with a disability and their carers. In addition, operational assistance to other services within the Aged & Disability Services section may be required. The position has no staff supervision responsibilities and is accountable through the Community Transport Coordinator to the Aged & Disability Development Officer. A Light Rigid (LR) Drivers Licence and a Transport for NSW Drivers’ Authority are essential as well as experience driving a manual 20 seat Coaster bus. Council also has an 11 seat Toyota Hiace bus. Experience and affinity with older people and younger people with a disability is a must as well as a friendly manner and willingness to assist people. Some judgement and problem solving skills are required in case emergency or unexpected situations arise. The ability to work in a team or alone while managing set tasks is very important as are high level interpersonal and teamwork skills to ensure quality customer service. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES COMMUNITY TRANSPORT: 1. In consultation with the Community Transport Coordinator, provide community transport bus services, activities and programs for: Older people, frail older people, younger people with a disability and their carers who live in the Mosman community. Children and young people during school holidays. Other Council related activities as required. 2. Assist clients during outings, activities or programs and at all times provide courteous, caring customer service. 3. Monitor the safety of clients at all times and report any concerns to the Community Transport Coordinator. 4. Ensure that the Community Buses are kept clean and tidy at all times and that fuel levels are maintained. 5. Undertake and record daily and weekly vehicle checks and notify the Community Transport Coordinator of any concerns, maintenance and/or repairs needed. 6. Keep relevant logs and statistics as required. 7. Continue staff development and training to enhance service delivery. AGED & DISABILITY SERVICES: 1. Provide support to other functions of the Aged and Disability Services Section as directed by the Team Leader/Supervisor or Manager as follows: Work closely with the Seniors Activities Coordinator in the smooth operation of the Seniors Centre. Assist with the set-up and operation of various activities within the Seniors Centre, ensuring correct WH&S guidelines are followed. Maintain a tidy and welcoming environment at all times. Provide excellent customer service and interact appropriately with clients at all times. OTHER DUTIES 1. Other duties may be allocated by the Supervisor or Manager. These will be in accordance with the employee’s range of skills, competence, training and /or experience. 2. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with legislative, industrial and Council policy requirements and standards in the areas of EEO and WH&S. Please refer to the WH&S responsibilities, performance measures and authority of employees. 3. Promptly and accurately register and record all corporate related correspondence and documentation including emails into Council's electronic Corporate Information Management System (DataWorks). Position Description: Community Bus Driver / Aged Services Assistant - Casual SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL Class LR Drivers’ Licence or higher Public Vehicle Drivers Authority Clean RTA Driver Record Demonstrated experience in driving a 20 seat or larger manual bus Demonstrated experience with, or a good understanding of, the needs of older people and younger people with a disability. Very good interpersonal and communication skills especially with older people. Good levels of physical fitness Ability to assist with the setting up of activities and facilities. Ability to use initiative Ethical Focussed on solutions A strong team orientation Methodical and accurate work manner Good organisational skills Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure Computer proficiency with Windows applications together with keyboard and word processing skills with good levels of accuracy. Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service. Understanding of WHS issues in the workplace and EEO principles Able to satisfy the requirements of the Commissioner for Children and Children and Young People Act 1998, Employment Screening Provisions. Provision of disclosure stating that you are not a prohibited person under the Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998. Willingness to undergo a National Criminal Record Check and driving assessment. DESIRABLE First aid qualification or willingness to attend relevant training to become accredited. Experience driving a bus with a wheelchair hoist. Experience working with volunteers. Hours: Casual as required period across a 7 day spread of hours Status: Casual Qualifications: Class LR Drivers Licence; Public Vehicle Drivers Authority Commencing Salary / Range: Group C Council Salary System plus Superannuation Band 1, Level 3 Position Approved By: Director Community Development Approved Date: February 2014 Entitlement to work in Australia and evidence of qualifications for the position Council’s recruitment procedure requires applicants to supply evidence of their entitlement to work in Australia.
