EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Bruce Churchill-Smith is Regional Leader of our Insurance and Tort Liability Group, a
partner in our Insurance Corporate/Regulatory Group, and works closely with the BLG
Cybersecurity group. Based in Calgary, Bruce primarily focuses his practice on all areas
of insurance, including insurance corporate / regulatory law, products liability,
transportation, and oil & gas litigation. He is also involved in our Team North initiative.
He has appeared before the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, the Alberta and British
Columbia Courts of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Yukon, and the Federal Court of
Canada. He has also acted as a mediator in a number of mediations, and has
completed the Advanced Mediation Civil Litigation program delivered by the Continuing
Legal Education Society of British Columbia.

In addition to maintaining his practice, Bruce is extensively involved in pro bono work.
He is Chair of BLG’s National Pro Bono Committee, the Past President of Pro Bono
Law Alberta, and a past member of the Law Society of Alberta’s Pro Bono Task Force.
He is also a coordinator of the Child Advocacy Pro Bono Project (a Joint Initiative of
BLG, the Chi​ldren’s Legal Education Resource Centre, and Pro Bono Law Alberta) and
a past chair of the Volunteer Lawyers’ Service.
REPRESENTATIVE WORK

Representing insurers, brokers, adjusters on various regulatory and
licensing issues.

Representing a number of property and casualty insurers; insurance
litigation practice includes professional liability and coverage disputes.

Representing many manufacturers on product liability claims including in
the oil & gas sector, as well as food contamination, electronics, medical
devices, drugs and sports-related equipment.

Representing oil & gas companies with a focus on oil & gas insurance
matters.

Providing coverage opinions on energy, comprehensive general liability,
and pollution/environmental policies.
