Finished in dark-blue with a grey interior, this car is in running condition, though recommissioning would be advisable
following its period of museum display. Its bodywork is described as being in very good condition and the interior trim
is good . With a four-speed synchromesh transmission, it follows Alfa tradition of the period in being right-hand
drive. The 6C2500 was the last of the classic Alfa Romeo twin-cam line originated by Vittorio Jano and was
extrapolated from Jano s 6C2300 in 1937 by Bruno Trevisan. He had joined Alfa in 1934 to work on the new V12
racing engine and then been put in charge of passenger car design by Ing. Ugo Gobbato, the company s recentlyappointed managing director. With such advanced features as all-round independent suspension, this six-cylinder
twin-cam model was produced in very limited series in the late 1930s and would have been replaced at the end of
the war by the new 2-litre Gazella designed by Wifredo Ricart y Perez, but that project was shelved when Alfa s
Portello works were badly damaged by Allied bombing. Instead, the 6C2500 was further refined by Orazio Satta
Puliga, who had taken over as head of the Design & Experimental Department at the end of 1945, when Ricart had
returned to his native Spain, where he would create the legendary Pegaso. Satta Puliga s changes to the 6C2500
were largely detail ones, like the transference of the gear lever from floor to steering column. Most exclusive of the
post war 6C2500 line was the 6C2500 SS, built on a short 2.7 metre chassis and intended for exclusive coachbuilt
bodywork. Total production of the 6C2500 SS was 458 units, of which 75 were built between 1939-1943 and 383
between 1947-1951.This delightful coupe must be one of the handsomest post-war Alfa Romeos and would be a
worthy addition to any connoisseur s collection.
