Study Group (aka: The Pod)
Study Group (aka: The Pod)
Our aim is put ourselves into the mindset of the expatriate writers who
came before us. Who sat at Le Dôme and listened to a trio syncopate a
rhythm, who wandered the Left Bank visiting salons, who collaborated
with others in order to make their story live in another form. By
examining interdisciplinary artistic influence, our own work finds new
directions. Alongside the assigned weekly seminar readings, we will
explore four such intersections, places where literature danced with an
able, artistic ally. We seek not to become subject matter experts, but
simply to be inspired. Students will be asked to maintain a journal
intime, a record of reaction to what we experience each week, as well
as complete short weekly writing assignments, which can be used as a
basis for the final project: a 5-6 paged creative work influenced by
one of the art forms covered in the course.
Artists on the syllabus will include:
Week One: Jazz and Modernism
