Avant propos Foreword
Pour la 32e fois, le Festival Django Reinhardt se
Voilà trente et une éditions que nous avons
rendez-vous sur un bout de terre. Au milieu de la
Seine, entourés des péniches, nous vibrons chaque année des accords d’une musique centenaire. C’est une
mélopée sans frontière, sans visa, une musique sans
papier qui a fait le tour du monde et a influencé toute
la planète jazz. Pas de carte de séjour pour le jazz gitan
qui s’immisce partout, le père Django reconnaîtra les
siens. En un siècle d’histoire, voici une musique qui a
fait plusieurs révolutions, qui est morte en restant en
vie, qui s’est popularisée sans jamais vendre son âme,
son «Alma Sinti» comme l’a clamé l’ami Saussois.

C’est la plus moderne et la plus ancestrale des musiques
populaires. Elle est jazz, disco, swing, valse, chanson,
folklorique, funk ou soul. Elle est la fierté de tout un
peuple qui grâce à un guitariste génial est reconnue sur
les cinq continents. Elle est notre passion depuis 1968,
année où quelques Samoisiens ont eu l’idée magnifique
de rendre hommage à Django Reinhardt, là où il repose
pour l’éternité.
The style is both modern and timeless and crops
up within styles as diverse as jazz, disco, swing,
waltz, song, folklore, funk or soul. What is more,
it is the pride and joy of a people, in whose name
our virtuoso pioneer, Django Reinhardt, achieved
worldwide recognition. This gipsy genre has also
been our passionate focus since that year of 1968,
when a few Samois villagers first had this terrific
idea of paying a tribute to Django Reinhardt in
the very village where his body now rests in peace.
Après 2010, il fallait relever le défi !
déroule dans le cadre exceptionnel de l’île du Berceau,
là où Django aimait à taquiner le goujon. Tout a été
fait pour que cette édition soit à la hauteur de celle qui,
en 2010, a marqué le 100e anniversaire de la naissance
du célèbre musicien né en Belgique, à Liberchies, le 23
janvier 1910 et mort à Samois-sur-Seine le 16 mai 1953.
Cette année 2010 aura été mémorable ; les manifestations
et les initiatives de toutes sortes, parfois originales, ont
été extrêmement nombreuses à l’occasion de ce centième
anniversaire montrant ainsi, s’il en était besoin, le rôle
que Django a joué dans l’histoire du jazz l.
À Samois, une association a eu l’heureuse idée d’édifier
« une statue pour Django » en la faisant financer par une
souscription dont les premiers donateurs furent, bien
entendu, la commune et l’Association du Festival mais
à laquelle ont participé un grand nombre de « fans » de
Django et du cadre mythique de Samois. Le Ministre de
la Culture, Frédéric Mitterrand s’est, lui aussi, montré
sensible à l’événement et généreux.
Le buste de Django trône donc désormais en amont de
l’Avauterre et de l’Ile après une émouvante inauguration
dont le parrain fut le cinéaste Tony Gatliff.
Plus de cent bénévoles sur le terrain !
Le Festival de Samois est né en 1968, avec un hommage
à Django Reinhardt - à l’occasion du 15ème anniversaire
de sa mort - rendu par l’Association des Amis de Samois.
Quelques années plus tard était créée l’Association du
Festival Django Reinhardt qui perdure, parfois contre
vents et marées car rien n’est jamais simple à notre
époque ! Je tiens, à ce propos, à citer et remercier tous les
bénévoles qui , pour certains, se consacrent pleinement à
notre manifestation et cela chaque année, dès son lendemain et jusqu’au au dernier jour de la suivante ! Durant le
Festival ce sont plus de 100 bénévoles, une grande partie
Samoisiens, qui sont sur le terrain.
Et pour le suivi à l’année des tâches nombreuses et variées
d’un organisateur de spectacles, le Festival a recruté dans
le milieu artistique une nouvelle assistante expérimentée :
Anne Lepetit qui, de ce fait, a eu le bon goût de s’installer
à Samois. Avec elle, avec tout le bureau de l’Association,
la Municipalité et tous ceux qui nous soutiennent, je vous
souhaite un excellent cru 2011. Que la fête commence !
For the 32nd time, the Django Reinhardt
Festival comes to us from the outstanding openair setting of the “île du Berceau” island, right in
Django’s backyard.
We have seen to it that his year’s edition comes
up to the high standards set by the 2010 festival,
which celebrated the 100th anniversary of
Django’s birth in Belgium, in Liberchies, on the
23rd January 1910. Too bad that he had to leave
us on 16th May 1953 here in Samois.
2010 will go down in history as a year to
remember in which there were a great variety of
initiatives and events, each a reminder of what an
important role Django has played in the history
of jazz 1. In Samois itself, one association had
the great idea of putting up a ’statue for Django’.
The benefactors of this noble cause included the
Village Hall, the Festival Committee, a number
of Django and Samois fans, and even the French
Minister of Culture, Frédéric Mitterrand.
Django’s bust is now there for all to see, following
an emotional inauguration led by the film
director Tony Gatliff
More than a hundred volunteers
hard at work!
In 1968 on the 15th anniversary of Django’s death,
the Samois Festival first came into being. This was
a tribute to his memory organised by the so-called
“Association des Amis de Samois”. A few years
later the Django Reinhardt Festival Association
had become a permanent fixture despite some
trials and tribulations! Which reminds me of our
debt to all those volunteers who faithfully serve
the festival year in, year out and sometimes all
year long too! !
Those 100 volunteers, who are for the most part
residents of the village of Samois, will all be hard
at work serving the festival around the clock.
In the name of the Association Committee,
the Village Hall and all those who give us their
support, I raise a toast to a great 2011 vintage.

Pour cette édition 2011, nous vous avons concocté une
programmation avec passion, en mélangeant, métissant, croisant une grande diversité de musiques, et
répétons ici que la galaxie Django est ouverte sur des
ailleurs au delà du jazz gitan. Plaçons aussi ces 5 nuits
sous la tutelle des grands anciens, car cette musique
vient de là ; elle est le fruit du travail de maîtres oubliés
de la guitare musette tels que Gusti Malha ou Mattéo
Garcia. Et comme le disait Françis-Alfred Moerman
- à qui nous rendrons hommage en ouverture avec
Antoine Boyer (15 ans) : « Les pionniers étaient Baro
l’Ancien, Pebbo et Filou, « gitanes » catalans fixés en
Normandie, mais grands voyageurs devant l’éternel...
Trois guitaristes qui, voici bien des décennies, allèrent
à la découverte de musiques inconnues jusqu’au fond
de l’Europe Centrale, et furent les véritables créateurs du style de guitare tzigane que nous pratiquons
aujourd’hui ».
Pour toutes ces raisons, nous travaillons chaque année
à vous proposer un panorama en forme de tour du
monde et il faut venir à Samois pour prendre le pouls
du jazz d’ici-bas.

open-air festival, coming to you as usual from
its idyllic island setting on the river Seine and
celebrating this now century-old musical style.
I think we can safely say that this absolutely
unmistakeable gipsy genre has now finally come
into its own. It is so instantly recognizable that
it now scarcely needs the slightest introduction.
Unlike other musical styles, however, its huge
success worldwide seems to have been achieved
without any need for compromise.
For this 2011 edition, we have a great
programme lined up for you, showing off a
huge range of musical styles. This is only goes
to remind us all of how incredibly open Django
was to all sorts of external influences. During
the five-day festival period we have also been
attentive to paying our respects to the forgotten
grand masters of “musette” guitar playing, such
as Gusti Malha or Mattéo Garcia. In the words
of Françis-Alfred Moerman, whose contribution
we will be celebrating through the performance
of Antoine Boyer (15 years old): “ The pioneers
went by the names of ‘Old’Baro, Pebbo and
Filou, Catalan “ gipsies ” who had settled down
in Normandy, but they were inveterate travellers
to their very soul. Here were three guitarists that
reached out decades ago to hitherto uncharted
musical sources far into Central Europe, and
who were the true creators of the “ Gipsy” style
we hear today ”.
Needless to say we have pulled out all the stops
to take you on board a journey across the planet.
All you have to do is come to Samois and enjoy
the voyage.

Bercé par les rythmes gitans, Steeve Laffont est un musicien issu de la plus pure tradition manouche.
Celle là-même qui, à l’écart des tendances du moment, perpétue les harmonies et les rythmes de la musique de Django Reinhardt. Son jeu tout en puissance, sa technique affutée, son groove impeccable l’ont
propulsé dans le cercle des belles valeurs du style, dit « jazz manouche ». Fidèle dans ses collaborations,
avec Serge Oustakine et Rudy Rabuffetti, ses cousins, ils revisitent les standards du maître apportant
sa touche personnelle augmentée d’influence « modern jazz ». Un trio plein d’émotion toujours prêt à
exploser, une musicalité dévouée au swing !
The 13 year-old guitarist Antoine Boyer may be knee high to a grasshopper, but he will soon be springing into a
great career ahead. He has a solid technique combined with great sensitivity and is featured here in the group
Esmerald’ Jazz alongside his father Sebastien Boyer. In 2010 the group came out with a magnificent independent album paying tribute to the music of Francis-Alfred Moerman. Just watch this spot for further updates !
Steeve Laffont is a musician from the purest “manouche” or gipsy tradition and is well versed in gipsy rhythms.
In defiance of current fads, he resolutely perpetuates the harmonies and rhythms of Django Reinhardt’s music.
He has powerful delivery, a finely honed technique and an irreproachable groove. These are the skills that have
combined to thrust him into the forefront of the central arena in the style known as “Gipsy Jazz”.In the faithful
company of Serge Oustakine and Rudy Rabuffetti, his cousins, they will take a fresh look at Django’s standards
with an extra personal touch of “modern jazz”. This is a trio that is full to the brim with emotion on the point of
spilling over at any moment and a group of musicians who are hell-bent on letting it all loose !

The Serbo-croat musician Goran Bregovic, hugely respected in his own country, has gained quite a reputation
for high profile appearances in films. He is the prince of Central European folklore and also an exceptional
melodicist, an astounding arranger and a fiendish composer. He has forged a new sound from traditional
gipsy music, quite unlike any other artist before him. His Balkan music is rebellious, frenetic and joyful and,

du jazz pour en extraire l’essence. Talentueux trompettiste, habitué des scènes internationales, il enchaine
collaborations prestigieuses et projets novateurs de Manu Katché à Sanseverino en passant par Dj Cam.
Ce soir, il présente son nouveau quintet avec lequel il trace ses propres lignes entre deux modes d’expressions, tantôt électrique, tantôt acoustique. Manière audacieuse de montrer qu’une même base mélodique
et harmonique peut changer de couleur sans perdre de sa force et de son émotion.
Alex Tassel is a disciple of Miles Davis and belongs to that bright new generation that dives deep into the eternal
springs of jazz only to emerge with a distillation of its purest essence. He is a highly talented trumpet player,
familiar to the international stage and he has a number of prestigious and innovative collaborations to his credit,
with artists including Manu Katché, Sanseverino and Dj Cam.
Tonight he will be showcasing his new quintet, in whose company he will be carving out his own path through the
jungle of acoustic and electric sounds. This is a bold initiative that illustrates admirably how the same harmonic
and melodic building blocks can be used to change colour without spilling a drop of their power and emotion.

You would think, wouldn’t you, that just being born the son of a gipsy legend might be enough in itself. Without
falling into the temptation of one-upmanship, Babik Reinhardt forged his very own personality and expressed it
as he strode in the footsteps of Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Raney and John Coltrane. His was a quest that could but
only add to the aura of the family surname. His worthy successor and son, David will be aptly accompanied by
his father’s former comrades, Simon Gourbet and Emmanuel Bex. Together they will be paying tribute to father,
friend and composer, who sadly left us some ten years past.

Grammy Awards. Here he is at last in Samois.
As a guitar player there’s his incredible left hand, his unmistakeable articulate phrasing and his melodic genius.
Here is a player who was brought up on a regular healthy diet of Grant Green and Wes Montgomery.
As a singer, George Benson possesses a unique vocal sound which has been considerably influenced by King Cole
and Billy Ekstine, to name but two. He scats, he hums and he improvises in total unison with his guitar. Last of

Nous avons toujours offert aux jeunes talents la
possibilité de se produire à Samois. Le festival est
souvent la première véritable scène pour les futurs
talents du jazz gitan. Souvenez-vous du premier
concert de Bireli Lagrène, de Stochelo Rosenberg
ou Jimmy Rosenberg hier, de Levis Adel, Eddy
Waeldo aujourd’hui pour ne citer qu’eux. Après
Antoine Boyer mercredi, voici Andréas Varady.
Né en Slovaquie en 1997, ce jeune Rom vit en Irlande depuis 3 ans. Il a enregistré son premier disque à l’âge de 13 ans, avec David Lyttle, Bandy Varady
(son père) et Michael Janisch ; pas de swing manouche ici, même si Andréas paie son tribut à Django,
mais du jazz dans la tradition des grands maîtres ricains de George Benson à Pat Martino. C’est en
quartet qu’il se produit ce soir. L’occasion pour nous de découvrir un futur grand.

In accordance with our yearly tradition of showcasing young up-and-coming talent in Samois, the festival has
come to be a springboard for more than one budding gipsy jazz career. The names that come instantly to mind

This young Romany guitarist was born in Slovakia in 1997, and has been residing in Ireland for three years
now. He recorded his first disc at the age of 13, with David Lyttle, Bandy Varady (his father) and Michael
Janisch. While Andreas pays his dues to Django, he is likely to reveal more of his taste for American grand
masters such as George Benson and Pat Martino rather than for gipsy jazz. This evening’s quartet performance
is set to give us a preview of a great career to come.

Grand mélodiste au phrasé lumineux, on ne
présente plus cet habitué du festival. Le bop de
Christian Escoudé coule de sa veine tzigane, de
sa passion pour Django Reinhardt. Son talent a
depuis longtemps débordé du moule d’ « éminent
représentant du style ». En compagnie d’une belle
équipe de complice, il prête ses arpèges aux mélodies de Georges Brassens. Dialogues en cascades,
son dernier disque « Au bois de mon cœur », rend
hommage au compositeur, poète, libre penseur
perdu une nuit d’automne 1981. L’idée est excellente et le résultat si bien réussi qu’il semble naturel d’entendre Brassens swinguer dans la langue
de Django !
Christian Escoudé, grand master of bright incisive
melodic phrasing, is practically part of the furniture
in Samois. His bop flows from the same vein of Gipsy
blood as Django Reinhardt’s himself, even if h is not
a player to be held back by the constraints of the gipsy
genre. Backed up by a fine selection of accompanying
musicians he will be taking us on a tour through the
musical world of Georges Brassens. In is his latest
record “Au bois de mon cœur ”, he pays his own
particular tribute to the composer, poet and free
thinker, who left us one night in the autumn of 1981.
The concept is a sound one and the outcome sounds
even greater. It seems so natural to hear Brassens
swinging in Django’s own vernacular!

donne la possibilité à tous musiciens de monter sur scène le

inscription sur place auprès de la boutique du festival).
Il est l’explorateur au phrasé planant, jongleur de matière sonore et jazzistique. Loin des phénomènes
de mode, Erik Truffaz, par la richesse de ses univers musicaux, s’est imposé comme trompettiste
contemporain de référence. Singulier, résolument nomade, il promène son jazz entre pop, rock, triphop et drum’n’bass. En collectif, avec son quartet recomposé autour des claviers de Benoit Corboz, ils
nous plonge au cœur d’une fascinante mélancolie où la voix de Sophie Hunger habille l’atmosphère.
Ensemble, ils jouent des silences, des sons et comme un éloge à la lenteur, nous offrent ce que le jazz a
de plus chaleureux et de plus beau.
Erik Truffaz is a pioneer of hypnotic phrasing and a jazzy juggler of sound. Far from the madding trends of
the time, Erik has forged a reputation as a reference in contemporary trumpet playing. His jazz marches on
resolutely down along a nomadic path through soundscapes of pop, rock, trip-hop and “drum and bass”.
His collective is a quartet built up around the keyboards of Benoit Corboz, and he is intent on plunging us into
a melancholic atmosphere tinged by the evocative voice of Sophie Hunger. The band’s raw materials are sounds
and silence and their mission is to lift up for all to hear the greatest warmth and beauty that jazz has to offer.

vraiment dire qu’il maîtrise le style. Sans mimétisme, mais avec beaucoup de passion et de sincérité,
Jean-Jacques Gristi marche sur les pas de son maître. Aux côtés du guitariste, une excellente rythmique
composée de Jean-Marc Jaffet (contrebasse), Paul Aiuti (guitare) et Yoann Serra (batterie) assure un
soutien parfait au leader. Avec humilité et passion, Jean-Jacques Gristi ouvrira la 4e journée du festival
avec un répertoire tout en valses. Musique trop rare et plaisir délicat, fondateur du jazz gitan.
Jean-Jacques Gristi walks in his master’s footsteps. At the age of 10, quite used to stringing along on his
singer father’s tours, he came across ‘gipsy’ swing while listening to Bousquet in a bar around Antibes. He has
certainly admirably mastered Bousquet’s style and he has avoided the trap of slavish imitation, preferring
instead to reproduce the spark of sincerity. Backing him up is a solid rhythm section made up of Jean-Marc
Jaffet (double bass), Paul Aiuti (guitar) and Yoann Serra (drums). Jean-Jacques Gristi will unostentatiously
open this 4th day of the festival with a set that is as waltzy as it gets. This is an all too rare and delicate treat to
the joys of one of gipsy jazz’s main ingredients.

On a découvert Noé Reinhardt avec le premier
trio de David Reinhardt. Guitariste exigeant et
amoureux d’un jazz d’outre atlantique, ses maîtres,
bien que bercé par la tradition tzigane, sont George
Benson ou Wes Montgomery. Après un passage au
sein du Selmer #607, Noé s’est enfin décidé à se jeter
à l’eau en enregistrant son premier disque sous
son nom : « Eleven Standards ». C’est le répertoire
de la formule présentée aujourd’hui. Un trio sans
piano, sans guitare d’accompagnement, pour un
voyage dans son univers. À ses côtés Benjamin
Henock (Prysm), Bruno Rousselet et le maître de
l’accordéon Marc Berthoumieux.
We first had the pleasure of being introduced to
Noé Reinhardt in David Reinhardt’s first trio. In
spite of his traditional gipsy jazz upbringing, he is a
demanding guitarist who is enamoured of those great
jazz masters from across the Atlantic, such as George
Benson and Wes Montgomery. Following his appearance in Selmer #607, Noé finally made up his mind
to head off on a new course and recorded his first
album in his own name entitled “ Eleven Standards ”.
This will be the basis of the repertoire they will be
performing in this evening’s showcase. This trio is
travelling light, stripped as it is of piano and backing
guitar. Together with him on stage will be Benjamin
Henock (Prysm), Bruno Rousselet and master of the
accordion, Marc Berthoumieux.

pianiste italien, Raphael Gualazzi se distingue
par sa technique empruntée au stride-piano (Fats

C’est le Dj et producteur anglais Gilles Peterson
(Talking Loud, Worlwide) qui le premier a su voir
et entendre cette voix puissante. Signé sur le même
label que Paolo Conte, il emprunte à son ainé ces
manières rocailleuses de jouer avec le blues, le
ragtime et le jazz. Lauréat du concours du festival
de San Remo, sa musique se prête aujourd’hui au
jeu de la publicité Fiat en Europe et il a représenté
l’Italie à l’Eurovision, bref… nous prédisons à
ce jeune talent un avenir radieux et un présent
absolument dans l’air du temps.
The Italian pianist Raphael Gualazzi’s hallmark is,
on the one hand, a piano technique borrowed from
the stride piano we associate with Fats Waller and
James P. Johnson and, on the other, his astonishing
voice. The English DJ and producer Gilles Peterson
(Talking Loud, Worldwide) was one of the first to see
and hear him. He was soon signed to the same label
as Paolo Conte, with whom he shares this sort of
gravely treatment of the blues, ragtime and jazz.
This award winner of the San Remo festival lent
his music to Fiat’s advertising campaign in Europe
and even represented Italy in the Eurovision Song
Contest. We predict a huge career ahead of this
young promising talent and we rejoice in his presence

une ivresse inspirée de la poésie soufie : performance vocale et instrumentale, arabesques mélodiques et
rythmiques, célébration à l’émotion. Leur échange scénique, véritable hymne à l’harmonie et à l’amour,
nous entraîne dans une transe enivrante et spirituelle.
The next stop on our journey is a magical moment in the company of Titi Robin and Pakistan’s Faiz Ali Faiz.
The former is a guitarist on a quest of discovery of flamenco and of other gipsy and oriental genres. The latter is
a singer of ‘Qawwali’, the mystical and exalted singing style of the Pakistani Sufis. Together they enter a trancelike communion inspired by Sufi poetry in a vocal and instrumental performance held together by highly
stylised oriental melodic and rhythmic ornamentation. The emotion they communicate to us on stage tells the
story of a love supreme and lulls us into a hypnotic fascination.

influents de sa génération. Contrebassiste « hors format », il promène son art subtil et raffiné, entre
musique urbaine et tradition hébraïque. Ses compositions nous rappellent que le jazz a le sens de l’histoire,
celle de la musique, mais aussi celle des peuples et des sentiments... Amour, jeunesse, liberté, ses thèmes
de prédilection, le « gently disturbed » les porte de sa voix intense telles des psalmodies rêveuses. En totale
cohésion avec ses musiciens, il nous invite ce soir à un voyage nostalgique et joyeux, d’îles rythmiques
en continents sonores. Troisième apparition sur l’Ile du Berceau pour ce musicien étonnant qui présente
son nouveau trio et un nouveau répertoire. Conclusion évidente et explosive de cette 4e journée.
As soon as you have heard the first couple of bars of his music, you cannot possibly fail to recognise that Avishai
Cohen is behind it. This is just one feature which might explain why Avishai Cohen is one of the most influential
jazzmen of his generation. On the one hand he is a double bass player that defies classification, and on the other,
he is an accomplished composer who walks a fine line between urban jazz and Hebrew traditional music.
His music would seem to remind us of the extent to which jazz is a living memory of a musical heritage as well as
the faithful transcription of the destiny of a whole people. His favourite themes include love, youth and freedom,
which he evokes with the devoted intensity of a religious chant. Here is an artist who achieves total communion
with his fellow musicians and issues an invitation to take part in a nostalgic joyous celebration of sound and
rhythm. This will be the third appearance on stage in Samois of this outstanding musician, who will be presenting
his latest trio and their new repertoire, a resounding conclusion to this 4th day.

We kick off with a set in partnership between the
Festival and the Didier Lockwood music school based
in nearby Dammarie-les-Lys. There, generation
after generation of budding musicians benefit from
a highly specific training, which often leads to a
prestigious career and the subsequent privilege of
helping the next generation to do down that same
path. Under the impetus of the celebrated violinist,
Didier Lockwood, scores of young hopefuls such as
Fiona Mombet and Thomas Encho, have graduated
with honours. So let’s have a close listen to the class of
2011 from the CMDL.
In the beginning there came an encounter between
two artists, on the one hand the eclectic singer China
Moses, and on the other Raphaël Lemonnier,
a pianist with a rather more conventional taste for
jazz. In the wake of a superb tribute to their icon,
Dinah Washington entitled “This One’s for Dinah”,
this duo offers us a sneak preview of their latest
project. Here the duo pays its respects to singers that
influenced Lady D, such as Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith,
Mamie Smith, Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin.
Backed up by a 100 percent jazz section, China will
be giving us an entertaining low-down on the story of
those steamy Divas. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me

jouer des bonnes expériences. Loin des accords manouches
auxquels on l’associe souvent, après avoir sillonné sur du
vieux rock américain, Bluegrass et autre Country Music,
en big band, fanfare et autres trio... Il nous revient ce soir
« comme un one man band mais à deux ». Bref, avec ce garçon là, qu’importe la formation puisqu’il y aura l’ivresse.
Un cas unique dans le panorama de la chanson française,
pour clore la 32e édition du festival Django Reinhardt de
Samois-Sur-Seine !
In Abu Nawas Rhapsody, the singer and oud player Dhafer Youssef is backed by a trio made up of jazz piano,
bass and drums all embarking on a bold quest to transcend geographical and spiritual boundaries. Dhafer
has temporarily put his electro adventures to one side only to come back to the sacrosanct piano-bass-drums
formula. Here he is in the company of three young virtuoso musicians Mark Giuliana, Sam Minaie and Tigran
Hamasyan, each with a healthy appetite for a wide range of sounds and a desire to give it all they have got.
Dhafer is blessed with the gift of swing as he opens the floodgates to a wave of poetry, thereby reinventing the
language of the jazz that he loves so much.
Stéphane Sanseverino is a mischievous and phantasmagorical
figure with a polished tongue. He seems to be on a continual
quest for renewal and change. Like a number of other
bohemian musicians, Sanseverino enjoys playing around
with the fruits of his own experience. Far removed from the
gipsy chords that we usually associate him with, he is back to
entertain us after an experimental flirtation with American
Rock, Bluegrass and other types of Country Music within
line-ups including big bands and fanfares. Here he is with his
so-called “one man band” duo. To cut to the chase, whatever
the line-up is, there’ll be fun to be had and what better way to
finish off the 32nd edition of the Django Reinhardt Festival than
in the company of this emblematic figure of French singing
talent once more in Samois-Sur-Seine !

À deux pas de l’entrée du festival, au numéro 3
de la rue du Bas Samois, une plaque indique aux
amateurs de jazz la maison où Django Reinhardt
a vécu et a fini sa vie. Le guitariste gitan (19101953) est enterré au cimetière du village.
Within a stone’s throw from the entrance of the
festival, at number 3 of the « Bas Samois » street, a
plaque reminds the jazz lovers of the house where
Django Reinhardt lived and died. The gypsy guitar
player (1910-1953) was buried in the village cemetery.

L’implication du conseil général nous a permis d’initier le projet de musiciens résidents, projet réalisé depuis 2008.
ORGANISMES PROFESSIONNELS
SAcem, organisme qui perçoit et répartit les droits d’auteurs la Sacem a
également pour rôle d’aider les manifestations culturelles .La Sacem soutient le festival Django Reinhardt depuis de nombreuses années.
CNV , établissement public et commercial, le CNV est placé sous la tutelle du
ministère de la culture et de la communication .Le CNV aide le festival dans le
cadre de sa mission de soutien au secteur de la chanson, des variétés et du jazz.
Talent Jazz Adami, association artistique de l’Adami reprend en 2011
l’opération « Talents Jazz Adami » qui vise à mettre en valeur les musiques
de jazz et des artistes en développement.

qui est un des atouts de notre festival.

25 ans, AS International a choisi de parrainer le Festival Django Reinhardt

Paris Jazz Club, a pour objet de promouvoir, célébrer et démocratiser le
jazz sous toutes ses formes à travers les lieux de jazz d’Ile-de-France.
Péniche Opéra, Espace propice à la dérive, lieu d’errance, la Péniche Opéra
est un magnifique jouet où des chanteurs, des comédiens, des musiciens, des
metteurs en scène peuvent ancrer leurs rêves de théâtre et de musique.
Swing News, sur l’île du berceau, le Swing News ouvrira ses pages en direct
du Festival de Samois du 22 au 26 juin. En quête d’harmonies, de rythmes et
d’improvisation, rejoignez-nous sur la route du Swing !
Liberchies, sous un soleil radieux, la 9e édition du festival « Django à Li-
berchies » a eu lieu le week-end des 21 & 22 mai 2011, dans le village natal
de Django Reinhardt.
Le Rocheton, depuis sa création, a toujours eu une activité sociale liée à
l’accueil de l’étranger, que ce soit des jeunes en formation ou des demandeurs d’asile.
Réseau Pinces-Oreilles, composé de 26 structures, est le réseau 77 des
musiques actuelles.
