In many areas of our lives transportation, food, energy, waste/recycling, biodiversity, social responsibility
there are things we can each do every day to help make the world a fairer, more “sustainable” place while
still having fun!
The 6th Geneva Sustainable Living Festival offers a different perspective on daily life, and suggests easy,
practical ways to change what you do for the better.
While much of the information will be presented in French, an interpretation service in English will be
provided, along with written translations of the Festival educational guide. And of course, the music, art and
food can be enjoyed by all!

The group L’Ironie du son was founded in 1995 by four musicians: a rap singer, a harmonica player, a guitarist
and a drummer. Their music is influenced by jazz and the blues, blended with registers and sounds from a
range of other styles.

An acoustic trio founded at the start of the new century by three young musicians from Geneva, ‘NK began by
updating the music of George Clinton, using a tight, minimalist configuration. Their repertoire also includes
original compositions, some influenced by a stay in Madagascar. At the Sustainable Living Festival, the three
musicians will be playing a selection of older and more recent pieces.

TRIO MARÍA DE LA PAZ

María de la Paz grew up in Buenos Aires, in an environment steeped in culture. This exceptional singer has
already produced a number of albums in Argentina, where she has appeared with the famous bandonéon
player Julio Oscar Pane and the equally well-known Orquesta Nacional del Tango “Juan de Dios Filiberto”.

The documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”, by director Davis Guggenheim, invites viewers to follow Al Gore,
former vice-president of the United States, on his passionate campaign to fight climate change and do away

MEET AN AMAZONIAN INDIAN CHIEF
Saturday, June 9, 6:00-7:30 p.m.
The Geneva-based group AQUAVERDE, dedicated to reforestation in the Amazon, has the honor of
welcoming the head of the SURUI Indian people, Grand Chief Almir Narayamoga Surui. The Amazon today
faces massive deforestation, which will put our planet in danger. Come discover the fascinating story of the
survival of some Amazon tribes and their efforts to save their culture, traditions, and environment.
A 12 minute film on deforestation to plant soya on an industrial scale will be shown, followed by Chief Surui’s
response to the problem of deforestation.
SUSTAINABLE LIVING: WHAT CAN WE DO?

Panel Discussion: Does climate change offer an opportunity for us all to rethink our way of life, our means of
production and consumption, in order to put our society back on track to a more sustainable future?
This roundtable will be punctuated by musical interludes, offering the public the chance to feel the delicate
balance between nature and the topics presented through music as well as speech.

WHAT’S THE IMPORTANCE OF BIODIVERSITY?

We know that at least 16,000 species of animals and plants are in certain imminent danger of extinction and
could soon be wiped off the face of the earth. . . What then? Why persist in conserving these species? Is
biodiversity really essential to our own well-being? Can we survive without the richness and variety of
nature? Join us for a discussion of the utility and benefits of nature conservation.
Organized by and with the participation of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), the United Nations
Environment Program (UNEP), and ZERI, an environmental non-governmental organization.

EXHIBIT “REAGIR” (REACT)
A Future for the Planet
From May 18 until October 14, the Conservatory and Botanical Garden of the City of Geneva, and the Program
for the Environment of the United Nations present “REAGIR”, an outdoor exhibit on five contemporary
environmental catastrophies: climate change, deforestation, desertification, pollution, and lose of biodiversity.
These topics are presented interactively on the lawn of the Villa le Chêne. While at the fair, be sure to visit
this exhibit as well.
