Tamara Machado nabs a silver medal

Tamara Machado Da Silva, was part of
the Quebec team which came in second
at the recent Eastern Canadian Championships
that took place on Saturday, May 6, in Ancaster,
Ontario.

The Quebec team, provincial category 4,
novice, won the medal as a team (with the
total of points). Tamara was ranked in all disciplines, during this competition that
brought together athletes from Ontario,
Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince
Edward Island and Newfoundland. She came
in second in her team and contributed in her
team obtaining the silver medal.
The young athlete also won a bronze
medal, in the asymmetrical bars, during the
provincial gymnastics championships, which
took place in April, in Repetigny. The 13year-old competed against 250 other athletes
from across Quebec, who had to qualify for
the competition. Her performance there
allowed her to join the Quebec team for the
Eastern Canadian Championships. Tamara
obtained the bronze medal in her category.
Her performance was no accident. She
trains 25 hours a week at the Gadbois
Gymnastics Club, located on the 3rd floor of
the Atwater Market. She is currently provin-

deux hockeyeurs verdunois vient changer ces
plans.
On apprend, en effet, qu'Alexandre Leduc
et Frédéric Desrochers ainsi que leurs coéquipiers des Patriotes de Chateauguay ont remporté la médaille de bronze, le dimanche 30
avril dernier, lors du championnat canadien

girl is part of a Sports-Studies Program, at the
Antoine de St-Exupery High School, in StLeonard, where she studies from 8:10 a.m. to
noon and trains until 6:30 p.m., five days a
week.
Starting in the fall of 2006, Tamara will be
able to compete in national level competitions. With her talent and determination, the
future is certainly looking bright for this
young Island star.

ligue Midget AAA comme l'une des meilleures au Canada.
Malgré leurs 48 lancers (contre 26), les Patriotes ont dû redoubler leurs efforts pour
vaincre la résistance d'Allen Reynolds, des Canadiens Juniors de Toronto, nommé en cette
occasion, le meilleur gardien du tournoi de la
Coupe Telus.
Bravo à ces deux jeunes hockeyeurs qui
font honneur à toute la communauté verdunoise et félicitations aux Patriotes pour cette
solide performance.
