Learning from my Learners - Jim Wingate
Any number in group
Jim will share 20 deep insightrs from his learners. These lead to 20
practical classroom techniques for any and every lesson to get all
learners to learn more effectively and efficiently. Jim's aim is to
share approaches to help you to listen to and observe your
learners more productively.
Each short, entertaining anecdote is an 'aha!' moment, when Jim's
learners helped him to breakthroughs in his teaching. Participants
will respond, and share similar insights in pairs. We then add to
our methodological repertoire classroom techniques arising from
our insights.
Discussing the input in pairs.

Objectifs / Lernziele:
Abstract
The 21st Century skills movement believe that to be
successful in today's fast moving and increasingly
connected world learning needs to be centered around
three core skill areas of career and life skills, digital
literacies and the 4 C's. In this session we will look in
more detail at digital literacies and if they really are the
responsibility of the ELT teacher. We will discuss ways
in which educational institutions and publishers
address the area of technology in English language
teaching and discover how some technologies can be
used to re-position the ELT teacher in a more positive
way, benefiting both learner and teacher. Examples
will be taken from MyEnglishLab.

Workshop
Titre / Titel:
The Future of Oral Exams – a Look at Key Aspects
Groupe-cible/ Zielgruppe:
Examiners / Teachers / Course Providers
Objectifs / Lernziele:
The various steps of oral assessment.
Contenu / Inhalt:
Online language tests are nowadays becoming
commonplace. Technology can easily support reading,
writing and listening tasks, but in the past examination
boards have often suffered from “media disruption” when
it came to interactive speaking tests.
This workshop will present the results of a new MONDIALETesting procedure using telephone, Skype and web
conference applications enabling not only monologic skills
but also candidates’ interactive proficiency to be assessed.
Following the demand on more flexible language testing
systems the validity of the procedure should be
guaranteed. The use of modern technology for oral exams
need different security rules to ensure the fairness and
equality of all test sessions. The licensing process of a test
centre has to include a technical check of the premises.
The examiners training has to include distance learning
elements which qualify the examiners for testing on a
distance basis. The candidate tasks have to be delivered in
a different way. There must be a comparability of quality
between the “old” and the “new” approach of
administering test sessions.
Méthodes / Methoden:
In the course of the workshop, we will discuss the features
which are necessary for an oral language test using
telephones, Skype or web conference applications. We will
cover the topics like test centre equipment, security, how
to administer and trouble shoot. The attendees will learn
why the use of modern technology is important, not only to
generate language tests that can be administered on
short-notice independent of place, but also to meet the
expectation of a generation of test candidates that has
grown up expecting multi-media exploitation everywhere.
Finally the participants can have a look at various samples
of recorded exams which show the practicability of
administering.

Workshop
