LUCERNE
Welcome to Lucerne! The metropolis of Central Switzerland is a cultural and conference venue with style. Just as fascinating as the city itself is the picturesque surrounding
countryside. You will love Lucerne. Arrive as a visitor and leave as a friend.
Lucerne’s fame is largely due to its outstanding beautiful location. Nestling between
gentle hillsides, the city lies at the end of Lake Lucerne. The unique panorama ranges
from Mount Rigi to Mount Pilatus depending on the weather, season or time of day, sets
dramatically different moods. Lucerne is the capital and cultural centre of Central
Switzerland.
Lucerne is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, not only because of its unique
location in the middle of a breathtaking scenery, but also thanks to its many interesting
buildings and places of interest.
Some of Lucerne’s highlights:
The Chapel Bridge and the Water Tower. The covered wooden walkway of the Chapel
Bridge was built in the 14 th century and originally formed part of the city fortifications.
In the 17 th century a series of painted panels was hung beneath the eaves.
The 34-metre high Water Tower, dating from the 13 th century, was also originally part
of the fortifications of Lucerne.
You should not leave Lucerne without visiting the three main squares of the old town:
the Weinmarkt, the Hirschenplatz and the Kornmarkt. These squares are surrounded by
historical houses with colorful frescoes.
Take a nice walk through a maze of small streets, bridges, promenades and squares
dominated by countless historical towers, fountains… You will spend unforgettable days
in this dream city.

Welcome Message
by the President of AIPPI
Under the new Statutes, adopted at the
Melbourne Congress in 2001, AIPPI will
every second year hold a Congress, alternating with an Executive Committee
Meeting (EXCO) and an AIPPI Forum in the
years in between, thus ensuring that every
year a Meeting will be held that is open to
its whole membership. Since the Geneva
Congress had already been fixed for
2004, exceptionally last year an EXCO,
open only to a restricted number of
Delegates, took place in Lisbon, and for
this year the first EXCO, combined with a
Forum was scheduled.
our National and Regional Groups will
attend this annual Meeting of our decision
making body. However, at the same time
the decision was taken to hold the Forum,
as planned, in Seoul, thus enabling every
Member of our Association to attend an
international Meeting, and ensuring that
an important Meeting of our Association
this year takes place in Asia. Our friends of
the Korean Group have perfectly organized
that Forum which actually is the first Forum
taking place outside of Europe, and a very
interesting programme has been put
together.
As a truly International Association, AIPPI
takes care to have Congresses, Executive
Committee Meetings and Forums in different parts of the world. AIPPI has held
Meetings in all five continents, however,
only two major events took place in Asia,
the Congress 1966 in Tokyo and the
Congress 1992 again in Tokyo. It is not
surprising that these two Meetings took
place in Tokyo, since the Japanese Group
is the largest National Group of AIPPI.
However, time had come to gather in
another country of the huge Asian continent and I was very happy that the Korean
National Group, the second largest Group
of AIPPI in Asia, invited the AIPPI to hold its
Executive Committee Meeting and the
Forum this year in Seoul. For reasons out of
our control, of which you all are aware,
the Bureau had to decide, together with
our Korean friends, to relocate the EXCO
to Lucerne, Switzerland, in order to assure
that as many Delegates as possible from all
At the Melbourne Congress it has also
been decided to shorten the Meetings and
to streamline their structure. This decision
has been fully implemented this year for
the EXCO in Lucerne as you may easily
grasp from the programme. The scientific
Questions on the agenda of our EXCO are
timely and forward looking in the best
tradition of our Association. The General
Secretariat of our Association with the
support of our Central Professional
Congress Organizer have within a very
short time arranged for a challenging programme which I trust everybody will enjoy.

Welcome Message
by the President of
the Korean National Group
of AIPPI
On behalf of the Korean National Group
of AIPPI, I am honored to deliver our
congratulatory message on the 2003
AIPPI EXCO Meeting.
The 2003 EXCO Meeting in Lucerne,
Switzerland, is more special than ever to
the Korean National Group. As you may
know, the Korean National Group has
participated in the preparations with
enthusiasm in order to successfully convene the EXCO and the FORUM which were
scheduled to take place together in Seoul,
Korea. Despite all of the changes containing the solution to split the EXCO from
the FORUM and the relocation of the
EXCO, we still promise our full support for
a successful 2003 EXCO, expecting to
have a chance to host the EXCO in the
near future.
No doubt the 2003 EXCO will dedicate
itself to keeping the great tradition of the
AIPPI by bringing together the Delegates
from all over the world. The attractive
scientific programme shows that the EXCO
helps in the effort of the international IP
community to find a harmonized solution
for worldwide intellectual property issues.
On the other hand, it is our hope that we
can see you at the 3 rd AIPPI World
Intellectual Property FORUM which will be
held, as originally planned, in Seoul,
Korea, from October 10th to 12th, 2003,
followed by industrial inspection tours
from October 13th to 15th, 2003.
The FORUM will provide all Participants
with an opportunity to disseminate information about development and trends in
the Intellectual Property Protection, let
alone Korea’s warm hospitality.
We look forward to seeing you at the

and the 3 rd AIPPI World Intellectual

Voltage: the wall sockets (for 2 or 3 pole

automated teller machines (ATMs) at the
entrance of almost all banks and in many places in town.

From Switzerland, the international access
code is 00. To call Switzerland from abroad,
dial the international access code of the country you are in, plus 41 (Switzerland’s country
code), plus the full number of your correspondent.
Coin-operated telephones are scarce. Home
telephones aside, the cheapest and most convenient way to call anywhere is from a card-operated telephone. These cards are available in
post offices, newspaper stands and lottery
shops for CHF 5.–, 10.–, 20.– and 50.–.

TIPPING
Prices in hotels and restaurants and the taxi
fare are calculated to include taxes and
service. A tip, therefore, is at the client’s

Participants needing a visa for entry to
Switzerland are strongly advised to make
their application in their home country at least
three months before the intended date of travel. If in doubt, information can be obtained
from your nearest Swiss Embassy or
Consulate or from your travel agency.
Should you need a letter of invitation to
obtain an Entry Visa for Switzerland, it will be
a pleasure for MCI to send it to you.
WEATHER AND DRESS
October temperatures in Lucerne average
around 16°C/61°F in the daytime. Nights are
colder with an average of 12°C/54°F.
Clothing should be suitable for a chilly climate.
Pack warm clothes in your suitcase, a raincoat or an umbrella for unexpected showers.
Dress code for social events: for the Welcome
Reception, dark suit and cocktail dress are
suggested and for the Farewell Dinner, black
tie or dark suit is recommended.
HOW TO REACH LUCERNE
When you land at Zurich Kloten, the easiest
is to take the train for Lucerne in the airport
station. Pick up you luggage and follow the
signs “Bahnhof”: you will arrive at the counter to buy a return ticket for Lucerne. There is
a train from Zurich Airport to Lucerne approx.
every 30 minutes. We recommend that you
choose a direct train, without change at
Zurich main station. The Lucerne station is
situated on the lakeside in the very city centre of Lucerne (No 5 on the City map).
However, we recommend that you take a taxi
with your luggage to go to the hotel.

The letter of confirmation should be presented
at the Registration Desk in order to receive the
EXCO Meeting documentation and badge.
PAYMENTS, CANCELLATION AND
REFUNDS
Registration, Social Programme, Lunches,
Excursions:
Full payment of registration, social programme and excursions is requested when
registering (by credit card or by bank transfer). No confirmation will be sent until MCI
Group has received the full payment. All cancellations must be sent to MCI Group in
writing (fax, letter, or e-mail).
For cancellations received before 18 August
2003, deposits will be refunded (less CHF
70.– for administrative costs). After this date,
no refund will be possible.
Hotels:
To guarantee the reservation a deposit
covering the first night of your stay is
required. After 1 October 2003, all payments
must be made by credit card. All cancellations
must be sent to MCI Group in writing (fax, letter, or e-mail). For cancellations received
before 1 September 2003, deposits will be
refunded (less CHF 70.– for administrative
costs). After this date, no refund will be possible. In case of late cancellations (after 13
September 2003) of rooms, nights or in case
of no-show, we reserve the right to charge the
full stay if the hotel room cannot be re-sold.

Communication

After short welcoming speeches, you will
enjoy an unforgettable reception in the large
room of the trains of the Swiss Museum of
Transport and Communication.
It was in Zurich that the railway museum
began as early as 1914 with collections and
exhibitions of historical railway artefacts.
Today, in Lucerne, the theme of railway
transport occupies one third, i.e. 8,000 m2 of
the exhibition area in the museum. Fifty historic railway vehicles are chronologically
displayed in the halls. Your journey begins
with a simulated tour along the Alpine railways aboard the Locomotive 2000, and
leads via electrification to the age of steam
represented by the “Spanish Biscuits Railway”
at the very beginning of Swiss railways.
Some of the electric locomotives are more
than 100 years old, and reflect the leading
role in electrification played by Swiss railways and industry. The extensive exhibition of
locomotives is presented along a 100 meters
red walkway, which leads right through the
halls to give a comprehensive overview.
More than 50 models of locomotives, railcars, passenger carriages, all to a scale of
1:10, complement the original vehicles.
The exhibition is not just limited to technology
but also shows the importance of railways in
the social and economic development of
Switzerland over the last 150 years.
Without the railway, there would be no
major cities, no export industry, and no
large-scale tourism.

SUNDAY 26 OCTOBER
GLACIER GARDEN LUCERNE
At the heart of Switzerland we find Lucerne,
and at the heart of Lucerne we find the
Glacier Garden. It is Nature’s own monument
to its history, with a park and museum. It is
also a tourist attraction and an oasis of peace
from busy Lucerne life. Glacial potholes of
impressive proportions bear witness to the
last ice age and to the fact that Lucerne was
once covered by glaciers. Fossilized mussels
and palm leaves show that some 20 million
years earlier Lucerne was a subtropical
beach. A multimedia show and interactive
information system will bring to life the exciting history of the earth in an easy to understand way. The oldest large-scale mountain
relief in the world by F. L. Pfyffer von Wyher
and the Alhambra Labyrinth of Mirrors are
some of the other highlights in the Lucerne
Glacier Garden.

LUCERNE WALKING TOUR
Lucerne is a city for pedestrians! During the 2
hours of your walking tour, you will discover
the old town of Lucerne: the chapel bridge,
the famous lion monument, the medieval old
town, the town hall. You will learn important,
humorous and interesting facts about
Lucerne’s history, churches, bridges, narrow
streets, towers, squares and of course,
Lucerne’s trademark: the Chapel Bridge with
Water Tower.

MONDAY 27 OCTOBER
GLASI HERGISWIL
The glassworks at Hergiswil exist since 1817
on the shore of Lake Lucerne. The name
GLASI is a colloquial Swiss German term for
glassworks. The GLASI has been completely
renovated over the recent years and has been
transformed into a visitor-friendly factory.
Robert Niederer the son of the famous glassdesigner Roberto Niederer now manages it.
Your tour starts in the permanent exhibition of
the history of glass and their glassworks. This
labyrinth leads you through the ups and
downs of the 180-years history and directly
to the incandescent glass furnace. In 1996
the museum has been described by the
Council of Europe as one of the most beautiful museums in Europe. With a good view to
the glassmaker’s platform, you can observe
the craftsmen as they go about their rhythmical work and discover for yourself how
glass is formed, blown and cast from the glowing mass.

TUESDAY 28 OCTOBER
MOUNT PILATUS ROUNDTRIP
The world-famous roundtrip to the Mount
Pilatus (2132 m/7000 ft) will offer you one
of Switzerland’s most spectacular mountain
views.
A public boat will bring you from Lucerne
port to Alpnachstad, from where the steepest
cogwheel railway in the world (48%) will
bring you up to Mount Pilatus. Take your time
to enjoy the magnificent view over the Alps
and the native land of Wilhelm Tell. Lunch at
one of the top restaurants.
After lunch you will take the aerial cable car
from Mount Pilatus back to Kriens (around 40
minutes) where a private coach is waiting for
you to bring you back to the Palace Hotel.

Lucerne est l’une des plus jolies villes au monde, non seulement à cause de sa
situation exceptionnelle, mais aussi grâce à son architecture et à ses divers lieux de
grand intérêt.
Quelques uns de ces lieux:
Le Pont de la Chapelle et la Tour de l’Eau faisaient originellement partie des
fortifications de Lucerne. Le Pont de la Chapelle, couvert et en bois fut construit au
XIV e siècle. Au XVII e siècle, une série de panneaux ont été peints sous les arches du
toit du pont. La Tour d’Eau, 34 mètres de haut, date du XIII e siècle.
Vous ne quitterez pas Lucerne sans vous promener sur les trois places principales:
Weinmarkt, Hirschenplatz et Kornmarkt. Ces places sont entourées de maisons
historiques aux fresques colorées.
Faites cette promenade à travers toutes ces petites rues, les ponts, les places,
dominés par des tours, des fontaines sans nombre… Vous allez passer un séjour
inoubliable dans cette ville.

Message de Bienvenue
du Président de l’AIPPI
En accord avec les nouveaux Statuts,
adoptés durant le Congrès de Melbourne
en 2001, AIPPI organisera dorénavant un
Congrès tous les deux ans, et ce en alternance avec une Réunion du Comité exécutif ainsi qu’un Forum AIPPI qui auront lieu
conjointement, les années sans Congrès.
Ainsi, une Réunion ouverte à tous les Membres aura lieu chaque année. Le Congrès
de Genève ayant de longue date été agendé pour 2004, un EXCO exceptionnel,
dont la participation était limitée à un nombre restreint de Délégués, a eu lieu l’année
dernière à Lisbonne. Cette année encore,
le premier EXCO combiné avec un Forum
était confirmé.
En tant qu’Association réellement Internationale, AIPPI souhaite ardemment organiser ses Congrès, ses Réunion du Comité
exécutif ainsi que ses Forum dans différentes parties du monde. AIPPI a d’ailleurs
déjà organisé des Réunions sur les cinq
continents. Cependant, seuls deux événements majeurs ont déjà eu lieu en Asie, le
Congrès de 1966 à Tokyo ainsi que le
Congrès de 1992, à nouveau à Tokyo. Le
Groupe Japonais étant le plus grand
Groupe National de l’AIPPI, il n’est pas
surprenant que ces deux Réunions aient eu
lieu à Tokyo. Néanmoins, le temps était
venu de se rassembler dans un autre pays
de l’immense continent Asiatique, et j’ai
été très heureux que le Groupe National
Coréen, le second plus grand Groupe
National de l’AIPPI, invite l’AIPPI à organiser cette année à Séoul la Réunion du
Comité Exécutif ainsi que le Forum. En
raison d’événements imprévus indépendants de notre volonté dont vous êtes certainement tous au courant, le Bureau a été
obligé, en accord avec nos amis Coréens,
de déplacer la Réunion du Comité exécutif
à Lucerne, en Suisse. Cette douloureuse
décision a été prise pour assurer une participation aussi nombreuse que possible de
nos Groupes Nationaux et Régionaux à
cette Réunion essentielle de nos organes
de décision. Toutefois, la décision de maintenir le Forum à Séoul, comme prévu, était
prise conjointement. Ceci permettra à
chaque Membre de notre Association de
participer à une Réunion internationale et
assurera le fait qu’une Réunion importante
de notre Association aura lieu cette année
en Asie. Nos amis du Groupe Coréen ont
parfaitement organisé le Forum qui sera,
en fait, le premier Forum ayant lieu en
dehors de l’Europe. De plus, un programme extrêmement intéressant vous y attend.
Durant le Congrès de Melbourne, il a aussi
été décidé de raccourcir nos Réunions et
de recentrer leurs structures. Comme vous
pourrez aisément le constater en consultant
le programme, cette décision a été complètement appliquée pour l’EXCO de
Lucerne. Dans la meilleure tradition de
notre Association, les Questions scientifiques sur l’agenda de notre EXCO seront
ponctuelles et visionnaires. Dans un laps
de temps extrêmement réduit, le Secrétariat
Général de notre Association, avec le support de notre Organisateur de Congrès
Officiel, a réussi à organiser un programme très stimulant qui sera, j’en suis sûr,
apprécié de chacun.
Je me réjouis sincèrement de pouvoir vous
accueillir à Lucerne.

Groupe National Coréen
de l’AIPPI
Au nom du Groupe National Coréen de
l’AIPPI, je suis très honoré de vous adresser
notre message de bienvenue à la réunion
du l’AIPPI EXCO 2003.
La réunion de l’EXCO 2003 qui se tiendra
à Lucerne, en Suisse, revêt une importance
particulière pour le Groupe National
Coréen. Comme vous le savez certainement, le Groupe National Coréen a participé avec enthousiasme aux préparatifs
afin de regrouper avec succès l’EXCO et le
FORUM qui devaient initialement se tenir
ensemble à Séoul, en Corée. Malgré tous
les changements qui ont entraîné la séparation de l’EXCO et du FORUM et la délocalisation de l’EXCO, nous nous engageons à apporter tout notre soutien au succès de l’EXCO 2003, tout en espérant pouvoir l’accueillir dans un futur proche.
L’EXCO 2003 s’attachera sans aucun
doute à honorer la tradition de l’AIPPI, en
regroupant des délégués du monde entier.
Le programme scientifique, très attractif,
démontre que l’EXCO soutient l’effort de
la communauté internationale IP dans la
recherche de réponses harmonisées aux
questions planétaires de la propriété intellectuelle.
D’autre part, nous espérons vous rencontrer au IIIe FORUM International de l’AIPPI,
qui se déroulera comme prévu à Séoul, en
Corée, du 10 au 12 octobre 2003 et sera
suivi de tournées d’inspection industrielle
du 13 au 15 octobre 2003.
Le FORUM offrira à tous les participants
l’occasion de partager des informations
sur le développement et les tendances dans
le domaine de la Protection de la Propriété
Intellectuelle, sans compter la chaleureuse
hospitalité coréenne !

COMMENT SE RENDRE A LUCERNE
Lorsque vous arrivez à l’aéroport de Zurich
Kloten, le plus simple est d’aller prendre un
train pour Lucerne dans la gare de l’aéroport.
Après avoir récupéré vos bagages, suivez les
panneaux «Bahnhof» pour arriver aux guichets et prendre votre ticket aller et retour
pour Lucerne. Il y a un train depuis l’aéroport
de Zurich jusqu’à Lucerne approximativement
toutes les 30 minutes. Nous vous recommandons de choisir un train direct, sans changement à Zurich gare centrale. La gare de
Lucerne est située au bord du lac, en plein
centre de Lucerne (No 5 sur le plan de ville).
Toutefois, du fait de vos bagages, il est préférable de prendre un taxi pour vous rendre

au Musée Suisse des Transports et des
Communications

Après de courts mots de bienvenue, vous profiterez d’une réception inoubliable dans la
grande salle des trains du Musée Suisse des
Transports et des Communications.
C’est le musée du rail de Zurich qui a commencé à collectionner et à exposer des objets
liés au rail dès 1914. Aujourd’hui, à Lucerne
le rail occupe un tiers – c’est-à-dire 8000 m2
– de la surface d’exposition du musée.
Ses halles abritent 50 véhicules ferroviaires
historiques exposés dans l’ordre chronologique de leur apparition. Le voyage dans le
temps commence par les simulateurs de la
locomotive 2000, près des chemins de fer
alpins, passe par l’électrification et l’époque
de la vapeur, pour aboutir à la SpanischBrötli-Bahn, l’origine même des chemins de
fer suisses. Ces locomotives électriques, dont
quelques-unes sont plus que centenaires,
reflètent le rôle de pionnier des chemins de
fer et de l’industrie suisses dans le cadre de
l’électrification. Une passerelle rouge surplombant les locomotives exposées offre une
excellente vue d’ensemble. Une cinquantaine
de locomotives, automotrices et voitures à
l’échelle 1:10 complètent la collection de
véhicules authentiques.
Cette exposition ne se limite pas aux seuls
aspects techniques, mais montre également
l’importance du rail au niveau du développement économique et social de la Suisse
durant ces 150 dernières années.
Sans le rail, il n’y aurait ni grandes villes, ni
industrie d’exportation, ni tourisme de
masse.

LE JARDIN DES GLACIERS DE LUCERNE
Au coeur de la Suisse se trouvent Lucerne et le
Jardin des Glaciers. Avec un parc et un
musée, c’est en lui-même un monument à la
nature et à son histoire. C’est aussi une attraction touristique et une oasis calme dans la vie
active de Lucerne. Des marmites glaciaires de
grande taille témoignent que Lucerne, lors de
la dernière glaciation, était alors recouverte
par des glaciers. Des fossiles de moules et des
feuilles de palmiers indiquent qu’il y a quelques 20 millions d’années, Lucerne était une
plage au climat subtropical. Une présentation
multimedia et un système d’informations interactives vous feront découvrir de manière divertissante la passionnante histoire de la Terre. La
plus ancienne et la plus grande maquette de
relief alpin faite par F. L. Pfyffer von Wyher et
les Labyrinthes de Miroirs Alhambra sont
quelques-uns des points culminants de cette
visite du Jardin des Glaciers.

La verrerie de Hergiswil existe depuis 1817
sur les bords du lac de Lucerne. Le nom
GLASI est un terme de la langue parlée familière Suisse allemande pour tout ce qui est
verrerie. La GLASI a été complètement réno-
vée au cours de ces dernières années et a été
transformée en une usine qui accueille avec
plaisir le visiteur. Robert Niederer le fils du
célèbre designer Roberto Niederer la dirige
maintenant. Votre visite démarrera dans l’exposition permanente de verres et verreries.
Ce labyrinthe vous fera découvrir 180 ans de
l’histoire de ces fourneaux aux verres incandescents. Le Musée a été décrit comme l’un
des plus beaux musées en Europe en 1996
par le Conseil de l’Europe. Avec une bonne
vue depuis la plateforme des verriers, vous
pourrez observer les souffleurs dans leur travail rythmé et découvrir par vous-mêmes comment le verre est formé, soufflé et sort de cette
masse incandescente.

La mondialement célèbre excursion au Pilatus
(2132 m/7000 ft) vous offrira l’un des plus
spectaculaires panoramas des montagnes de

port de Lucerne à Alpnachstad, d’où le train
à crémaillère le plus pentu au monde (48%)
vous emmènera au Mont Pilatus.
Prenez votre temps pour profiter de la vue
magnifique sur les Alpes et la patrie de Guillaume Tell. Vous déjeunerez dans l’un des restaurants du sommet.
Après le déjeuner, vous prendrez le funiculaire qui va du Mont Pilatus à Kriens (environ

Einige Höhepunkte Luzerns sind:
Die Kapellbrücke und der Wasserturm. Der gedeckte, hölzerne Fussgängersteg der
Kapellbrücke wurde im 14. Jahrhundert gebaut und war ursprünglich Teil der
Stadtbefestigung. Im 17. Jahrhundert wurde die Brücke unter den Dachbalken mit
einem Gemäldezyklus versehen.
Auch der 34 Meter hohe Wasserturm, der aus dem 13. Jahrhundert stammt, gehörte früher zur Stadtbefestigung.
Sie sollten Luzern nicht verlassen ohne den Weinmarkt, den Hirschenplatz und den
Kornmarkt besichtigt zu haben. Die drei wichtigsten Altstadtplätze sind von historischen und mit Fresken bunt verzierten Häusern umgeben.
Flanieren Sie durch die kleinen Gassen, über die alten Brücken und eindrücklichen
Stadtplätze... Sie werden diese Traumstadt nicht vergessen.

Grussbotschaft
des Präsidenten der AIPPI
Unter den neuen am Kongress in Melbourne
im Jahre 2001 verabschiedeten Statuten veranstaltet die AIPPI jedes zweite Jahr einen
Kongress und in den dazwischenliegenden
Jahren eine Zusammenkunft des Geschäftsführenden Ausschusses sowie ein Forum,
womit sichergestellt wird, dass jedes Jahr
ein Treffen stattfindet, das der gesamten
Mitgliedschaft offen steht. Da das Datum
des Genfer Kongresses bereits für 2004 festgelegt worden war, wurde letztes Jahr ausnahmsweise ein Geschäftsführender Ausschuss, der nur einer beschränkten Anzahl
von Delegierten offen steht, für Lissabon vorgesehen und für dieses Jahr der erste
Geschäftsführende Ausschuss, der mit einem
Forum kombiniert ist.
Als eine wahrhaft internationale Vereinigung legt die AIPPI Wert darauf, dass
Kongresse, Geschäftsführende Ausschüsse
und Forumveranstaltungen in verschiedenen
Teilen der Welt stattfinden. Die AIPPI hat
Zusammenkünfte in allen fünf Kontinenten
durchgeführt, aber nur zwei grössere Treffen
fanden in Asien statt, der Kongress 1966 in
Tokio und der Kongress 1992 wieder in
Tokio. Es überrascht nicht, dass diese beiden Kongresse in Tokio abgehalten wurden,
da die Japanische Gruppe die grösste nationale Gruppe der AIPPI ist. Aber die Zeit war
reif, in einem anderen Land des riesigen asiatischen Kontinents zusammenzukommen,
und ich freute mich sehr, dass die Koreanische Landesgruppe, die zweitgrösste
Gruppe in Asien, die AIPPI einlud, ihren
Geschäftsführenden Ausschuss und das
Forum dieses Jahr in Seoul abzuhalten. Aus
von uns nicht kontrollierbaren Gründen, die
Ihnen allen bekannt sind, musste das Bureau
gemeinsam mit unseren koreanischen Freunden entscheiden, den Geschäftsführenden
Ausschuss nach Luzern in die Schweiz zu
verlegen um sicherzustellen, dass möglichst
viele Delegierte aus allen unseren Landesund Regionalgruppen an dieser jährlichen
Zusammenkunft unseres Entscheidungsträgers teilnehmen. Gleichzeitig wurde
aber entschieden, das Forum wie geplant in
Seoul abzuhalten, um so allen unseren
Mitgliedern zu ermöglichen, an einem internationalen Treffen unserer Vereinigung teilzunehmen und sicherzustellen, dass dieses
Jahr eine wichtige Veranstaltung unserer
Vereinigung in Asien stattfindet. Unsere
Freunde der Koreanischen Gruppe haben
das Forum, bei dem es sich um das erste
Forum ausserhalb Europas handelt, in perfekter Weise organisiert und ein sehr interessantes Programm wurde zusammengestellt.
Am Kongress in Melbourne wurde auch entschieden, die Zusammenkünfte zu kürzen
und ihre Struktur zu vereinfachen. Diese
Entscheidung wurde dieses Jahr für Luzern
voll umgesetzt, wie leicht aus dem Programm ersehen werden kann. Die wissenschaftlichen Fragen auf der Agenda unseres
Geschäftsführenden Ausschusses sind zeitgemäss und vorwärts blickend in der besten
Tradition unserer Vereinigung. Das Generalsekretariat unserer Vereinigung hat mit Hilfe
unseres zentralen professionellen Kongressorganisators innerhalb sehr kurzer Zeit ein
anspruchsvolles Programm zusammengestellt, von dem ich sicher bin, dass alle
Teilnehmer daran Gefallen finden werden.
Ich freue mich darauf, Sie in Luzern begrüssen zu können.

Grussbotschaft
des Präsidenten der
Koreanischen Landesgruppe
der AIPPI
Ich habe die Ehre, im Namen der
Koreanischen Landesgruppe der AIPPI eine
Gratulationsbotschaft für die Zusammenkunft des Geschäftsführenden Ausschusses
2003 aussprechen zu dürfen.
Die EXCO Zusammenkunft, die dieses Jahr
in Luzern stattfindet, ist für die Koreanische
Landesgruppe spezieller als alle anderen.
Wie Sie wissen, hat sich die Koreanische
Landesgruppe mit grossem Enthusiasmus
an den Vorbereitungen von EXCO und
FORUM, welche in Seoul, Korea, hätten
stattfinden sollen, beteiligt, um eine erfolgreiche Zusammenkunft garantieren zu
können. Trotz aller Änderungen wie der
Loslösung des EXCO vom FORUM und der
Änderung des Tagungsortes für das EXCO,
versprechen wir weiterhin unsere volle
Unterstützung für ein erfolgreiches EXCO
2003, in der Hoffnung, in naher Zukunft
die Gelegenheit zu erhalten, zu einem
EXCO einladen zu können.
Zweifellos wird das EXCO 2003 sich
darum bemühen, die Tradition der AIPPI
aufrechtzuerhalten, Delegierte aus der
ganzen Welt zu versammeln. Das attraktive wissenschaftliche Programm zeigt,
dass das EXCO dazu beiträgt, die Bestrebungen der internationalen IP Gemeinschaft zu unterstützen, um eine einheitliche
Lösung für die weltweiten Probleme im
Bereich des Geistigen Eigentums zu finden.
Auf der anderen Seite hoffen wir, Sie
alle am 3. weltweiten AIPPI FORUM zum
Geistigen Eigentum empfangen zu dürfen,
welches, wie ursprünglich geplant, in
Seoul, Korea, vom 10. bis 12. Oktober,
2003 stattfinden wird. Anschliessend, vom
13. bis 15. Oktober 2003, besteht die
Möglichkeit zur Besichtigung von industriellen Betrieben in Korea.
Das FORUM ermöglicht es den Teilnehmern, Informationen über die Entwicklung und Tendenzen im Bereich des
Schutzes des Geistigen Eigentums auszutauschen, sowie auch die grosse Gastfreundschaft Koreas kennenzulernen.
Wir freuen uns darauf, Sie an der
Zusammenkunft des Geschäftsführenden
Ausschusses in Luzern und am 3. weltweiten FORUM der AIPPI in Seoul begrüssen

Der einfachste Weg, um vom Flughafen Zürich
Kloten aus nach Luzern zu gelangen, ist mit dem
Zug ab Flughafenbahnhof. Nachdem Sie Ihr

Sie den Schildern „Bahnhof“: Sie gelangen an
die Schalter, wo Sie eine Hin- und Rückfahrkarte

empfehlen Ihnen, einen direkten Zug auszusuchen, um ein Umsteigen im Hauptbahnhof

Beim Einschreiben Ihrer Teilnahme, von
Rahmenprogrammen, Mittagessen und Ausflügen wird die gesamte Vorauszahlung verlangt (per Kreditkarte oder per Banktransfer).
Die Zahlungsbestätigung wird erst verschickt,
wenn die volle Zahlung bei MCI Group eingetroffen ist. Jegliche Annullierung muss
schriftlich direkt an MCI Group gesendet werden (Fax, Brief oder E-Mail). Für Annullierungen, die vor dem 18. August 2003 bei
uns eintreffen, werden bereits geleistete
Anzahlungen zurückerstattet (abzüglich CHF
70.– für administrative Kosten). Nach diesem
Datum ist keine Rückerstattung mehr möglich.
Hotels:
Um Ihre Hotelreservation zu garantieren,
benötigen wir eine Anzahlung für die erste
Übernachtung. Ab dem 1. Oktober 2003
müssen alle Zahlungen per Kreditkarte getätigt werden. Jegliche Annullierung muss
schriftlich direkt an MCI Group gesendet werden (Fax, Brief oder E-Mail).
Für Annullierungen, die vor dem 1. September
2003 bei uns eintreffen, werden bereits
geleistete Anzahlungen zurückerstattet (abzüglich CHF 70.– für administrative Kosten).
Ab diesem Datum ist keine Rückerstattung
mehr möglich. Im Falle von verspäteten Annullierungen (ab dem 13. September 2003) für
Zimmer, Nächte oder „No-Shows“ nehmen
wir uns das Recht für eine Rechnungsstellung
des gesamten Aufenthalts vor, sollten die

Eröffnung und Willkommensempfang im
Vekehrshaus der Schweiz
Nach kurzen Willkommensansprachen werden Sie eine unvergessliche Eröffnungsfeier in
der Eisenbahnhalle des Verkehrshauses der
Schweiz geniessen.
Bereits 1914 wurde im Eisenbahnmuseum in
Zürich mit dem Sammeln und Ausstellen von
historischen Objekten zum Schienenverkehr
begonnen. Heute besetzt das Thema Schienenverkehr einen Drittel, das heisst 8000 m2
der Ausstellungsfläche des Verkehrshauses.
In den Hallen sind 50 historische Schienenfahrzeuge chronologisch ausgestellt. Die
Reise beginnt mit den Simulatoren der Lok
2000 bei den Alpenbahnen und führt über
die Elektrifizierung zum Dampfzeitalter mit
der Spanisch-Brötli-Bahn, dem Anfang der
schweizerischen Eisenbahnen.
Die zum Teil über 100 Jahre alten Elektroloks
widerspiegeln die führende Rolle der
Schweizer Bahnen und der Industrie bei der
Elektrifizierung. Die dichte Präsentation der
Loks wird durch eine 100 Meter lange, rote
Passerelle, die der Länge nach durch die
Hallen führt, übersichtlich erschlossen. Über
50 Modelle von Lokomotiven, Trieb- und
Personenwagen im Massstab 1:10 ergänzen
die Originalfahrzeuge.
Die Ausstellung beschränkt sich nicht nur auf
die Technik, sondern zeigt die Bedeutung
der Eisenbahnen für die soziale und wirtschaftliche Entwicklung der Schweiz in den
letzten 150 Jahren. Ohne die Eisenbahn
gäbe es keine grösseren Städte, keine Exportindustrie, keinen Massentourismus.

SONNTAG 26. OKTOBER
DER LUZERNER GLETSCHERGARTEN
Im Herzen der Schweiz befinden sich Luzern
und der Gletschergarten. Zugleich ein bedeutendes Naturdenkmal, hat letzterer auch seine
Geschichte, einen Park und ein Museum.
Gleichzeitig ist er eine touristische Attraktion
und eine Oase der Ruhe im aktiven Leben
Luzerns. Beeindruckende Gletschertöpfe sind
Zeugen der letzten Eiszeit und belegen, dass
Luzern damals von Gletschern bedeckt war.
Versteinerte Muscheln und Palmblätter deuten
darauf hin, dass sich hier vor 20 Millionen
Jahren ein subtropischer Meeresstrand
befand. Eine Multimedia Show sowie ein
interaktives Informationssystem bringen Ihnen
die spannende Erdgeschichte unterhaltsam
näher. Das älteste und grösste Modell eines
Gebirgsreliefs von F. L. Pfyffer von Wyher und
das Labyrinth der Alhambra Spiegel sind
einige der Höhepunkte dieser Besichtigung
des Gletschergartens.

Luzern ist eine Stadt für Fussgänger!
Während Ihres zweistündigen Rundgangs
entdecken Sie die Altstadt, die hölzerne

den mittelalterlichen Teil der Stadt und das
Rathaus. Man wird Ihnen alle wichtigen und
interessanten Sachverhalte Luzerns mit seinen
Kirchen, seinen Brücken, seinen engen
Gässchen, seinen Türmen, seinen Dorfplätzen
und natürlich seinem Merkmal, der Kapellbrücke mit ihrem Holzturm, auf unterhaltsame
Weise erklären.

DIE GLASEREI VON HERGISWIL
Die Glashütte Hergiswil an den Ufern des
Vierwaldstättersees besteht schon seit 1817.
Der Name GLASI kommt aus der schweizerdeutschen Umgangssprache und umfasst
alles, was aus Glas besteht. Die GLASI wurde
in den letzten Jahren vollständig renoviert
und ist nun eine Werkstatt, die gerne Gäste
empfängt. Robert Niederer, der Sohn des
bekannten Designers Roberto Niederer, ist
der heutige Geschäftsführer. Ihr Besuch
beginnt in der Ausstellung der gläsernen
Objekte. Durch dieses Labyrinth werden Sie
die 180-jährige Geschichte der Öfen für
weissglühendes Glas entdecken. Der Europäische Rat hat dieses Museum 1996 zu
einem der schönsten Museen Europas erklärt.
Aus nächster Nähe können Sie beobachten,
wie Bläser ihrer Arbeit nachgehen und wie
Glas aus einer weissglühenden Masse geblasen und geformt wird.

PILATUS HIN UND ZURÜCK
Die weltweit bekannte Auffahrt zum Pilatus
(2132 m/7000 ft) bietet Ihnen ein spektakuläres Panorama der Schweizer Berge.
Ein reguläres Boot fährt Sie von Luzern nach
Alpnachstad, wo Sie die steilste Zahnradbahn der Welt (48%) auf den Pilatus bringt.
Nutzen Sie die Zeit und profitieren Sie von
der fantastischen Aussicht auf die Alpen und
die Heimat von Willhelm Tell. Sie werden auf
dem Gipfel zu Mittag essen.
Nach dem Essen wird Sie eine Seilbahn vom
Pilatus nach Kriens fahren (ungefähr 40 Minuten), von wo aus Sie mit einem privaten
Bus ins Palace Hotel zurückgebracht werden.
