BIOGRAPHIE
Le Dr. Emad Khalil est Professeur associé en Archéologie Maritime à l’Université d’Alexandrie en
Egypte.
Il est passionné et impliqué dans le monde maritime et l’archéologie sous-marine du début des
années 90.
En 1994, Emad Khalil a obtenue sa licence en Archéologie romaine et grecque de l’Université
d’Alexandrie et en 1999, il a été employé en tant qu’assistant d’enseignement au département
d’Archéologie et d’Études gréco-romaines de l’Université d’Alexandrie. Il a obtenu par la suite un
Master et un Doctorat en Archéologie Maritime de l’’Université de Southampton en Angleterre en 2002
et 2005. Où entre 2006 et 2009, il a coordonné un projet financé par EU-Tempus destiné à créer un
Centre Académique dans la région Arabe qui serait dédié à la recherche en archéologie maritime et
qui serait basé à l’Université d’Alexandrie en Egypte.
Parallèlement, entre 1994 et 2001, Dr Khalil a été employé à l’Institut d’Archéologie Nautique (INA) en
tant que Directeur adjoint du Centre Egyptien de l’INA.
Il est actuellement Directeur du Centre d’Alexandrie en Archéologie Maritime et Héritage culturel sousmarin. Il est également Président du Comité International sur l’Héritage Culturel sous-marin (ICUCH)
appartenant au ICOMOS.
Le Docteur Khalil a participé à plusieurs reprises à des projets portant sur l’archéologie maritime et
sous-marine dans divers endroits en Egypte dont le Projet Pharos, l’expédition autour de l’épave des
Iles Sadana, le projet de recherche du Lac Maréotis et la surveillance des épaves de la Cote NordOuest.
Il a enseigné et donné des conférences sur le monde maritime et l’archéologie sous-marine dans de
nombreux pays.
