S P I R O Jonathan Rhys Kesselman and Peter S. Spiro are the 2015 recipients of the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Douglas J. Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing Award. Their article, “Challenges in Shifting Canadian Taxation Toward Consumption,” was published in (2014) 62:1 Canadian Tax Journal 1-41. The article was selected by a committee of experienced tax professionals as the best writing published by the Foundation in 2014-15. The award, which is conferred annually, is named for the Foundation’s late director emeritus. Jonathan Rhys Kesselman is Canada Research Chair in Public Finance with the School of Public Policy, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver. He is a Policy Fellow of the Broadbent Institute and a Research Fellow of the C.D. Howe Institute. Kesselman has a PhD in Economics from MIT and was a Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia, 1972-2003. Peter S. Spiro is an Executive Fellow of the Mowat Centre for Policy Innovation, School of Public Policy and Governance, at the University of Toronto. He has also been associated for many years with the tax policy and tax enforcement areas of the Ontario Ministry of Finance. Much of his research has been devoted to understanding tax evasion and the underground economy, and he has published extensively on this subject in the Canadian Tax Journal and elsewhere. He has degrees in economics from the University of Toronto and the University of Chicago, and a JD degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. 135 canadian tax journal / revue fiscale canadienne (2016) 64:1, 136 Prix d’excellence en rédaction Douglas J. Sherbaniuk de la Fondation canadienne de fiscalité. Leur article intitulé « Challenges in Shifting Canadian Taxation Toward Consumption » a été publié en 2014 dans la Revue fiscale canadienne, 62:1, pp. 1 à 41. Il a été sélectionné par un comité composé de professionnels en fiscalité à titre de meilleur article publié par la Fondation en 2014-2015. Le prix conféré annuellement est nommé en la mémoire du défunt directeur emeritus de la Fondation. Jonathan Rhys Kesselman est titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en finances publiques de la School of Public Policy de l’Université Simon Fraser à Vancouver. Il est Policy Fellow à l’Institut Broadbent et chargé de recherche à l’Institut C.D. Howe. M. Kesselman détient un doctorat en économie du MIT et il a été professeur d’économie de 1972 à 2003 à l’Université de la ColombieBritannique. Peter S. Spiro est un cadre supérieur au Mowat Centre for Policy Innovation, School of Public Policy and Governance, de l’Université de Toronto. Pendant de nombreuses années, il s’est occupé des domaines de la politique fiscale et des mesures d’exécution fiscales du ministère des Finances de l’Ontario. La plus grande partie de ses recherches porte sur la compréhension de l’évasion fiscale et de l’économie souterraine, et il a publié à plusieurs reprises sur ce sujet dans la Revue fiscale canadienne et ailleurs.
