VOITURE LOCALE 1588
5401 HIGHWAY 527
HAUGHTON, LA 71037
Chef de Gare Locale
Paul Strange
I’d like to thank you all for the support you’ve given me during my tour
as Chef de Gare of Voiture 1588. Next month you will be hearing from our
new Chef de Gare, John DeMoss. It has been an honor and a pleasure to
serve. It was a great year and I expect that next year will be even better.
As you can see, we are at 100% in our membership! Thanks to all for
paying your dues.
Remember to send old stories or photographs to Bill Stroud at
[email protected], or drop them by the Post. We’d like to hear from
you. Don’t worry about the branch of service or the time period-if it’s a
good story or photograph, we will use it.
We’d like to see you, too. Don’t forget our promenades on the 4th
Wednesday of each month at 6:30 at Post 388. Our next one is on the
24th of July. Subject to change, our meeting schedule for the rest of the
year is as follows:
July 24
August 28
September 25
October 23
November 27
December (not yet decided)
Hope to see all of you that can make it at the Post on the 4 th of July
from 11:00 a.m. on. It should be a good time. If not, take some time to
remember the sacrifices made so that Our Nation could gain its
Independence, the sacrifices made thereafter to keep it and the sacrifices
still being made by our Men and Women in uniform. Say a prayer of thanks
each day and continue to do your part by supporting our Military and
Veterans organizations.
For God and Country,
Paul Strange

Don Schreiber (at right) in Thailand, circa 1953.
Editor’s note. You would have thought that Don would have figured this one out quickly as our
story starts with a trip to the men’s room at Bangkok airport in 1953. I don’t know where
Strange Paul was when this picture was taken and frankly don’t care. (Rumor has it that he was
in a nearby stall which is why this lady turned around and said, “Only one per stall.”)
Unfortunately, the censors got hold of the rest of this story and the follow on story: Strange Paul
and the Rock Ape.
WHAT AISLE IS THE POLISH SAUSAGE ON?
Everyone seems to be in such a hurry to scream 'racism' these days.
One day recently Hank asked, "In what aisle could I find the Polish sausage?"
The clerk asks, "Are you Polish?"
The guy, clearly offended, says, "Yes I am. But let me ask you something."
"If I had asked for Italian sausage, would you ask me if I was Italian?"
"Or if I had asked for German Bratwurst, would you ask me if I was German?"
"Or if I asked for a kosher hot dog would you ask me if I was Jewish?"
"Or if I had asked for a Taco, would you ask if I was Mexican?"
"Or if I asked for some Irish whiskey, would you ask if I was Irish?"
The clerk says, "No, I probably wouldn't."
The guy says, "Because I asked for Polish sausage, why did you ask me if I'm Polish?"
The clerk replied, "Because you're in Home Depot!"

Don’t forget the 4th of July is on a Thursday this year – hot dogs and hamburgers at the
Post!
Don’t forget to stop in and check the calendar and bulletin board. There will be a lot going on
around the lake 4th of July weekend. Don’t forget our friends and neighbors at Four Way, Our
Place, Brooks Landing, Rodger’s, Rascal’s, Shockley’s, Deb’s Place and all of our local
establishments.

This month we again celebrate our Nation's Independence. Current
events show us that we all need to get involved. There is a lot going on
around us. We tend to ignore current events but maybe it is time to pay
more attention. It seems that the more our government tries to do for us,
the more freedoms we end up losing.
Please keep those who are ill in your prayers. Try to stay out of the
heat and have a great summer. Hope to see you soon at the Post.
Hopefully, this newsletter will be out before the 4th of July and we will
see you there. It should be an old fashioned picnic with hamburgers, hot
dogs and the like.
Again, all stories are welcome. As you know, we try to keep them
clean and our censors are constantly on guard. That is why the stories
about Don and Paul were omitted from this month's Iron Horse.
Jusqu'à la prochaine fois (Until next time),
Bill Stroud
