Our mission
Volunteer Bureau of Montreal (VBM)) offers unique services that promote volunteerism

of Montreal and reinforce the value of volunteers among our 440 NPO partners. VBM also supports
Meals on Wheels services and food assistance programs operated by our associated network.

Our services
Our main services are:
 Recruiting and training volunteers
 Training program mostly targeting managers of volunteers
 Delivering presentations about volunteerism (Volunteering 101 for businesses, educational
institutions, etc.)
 Organizing volunteer fairs
 Facilitating communications between a network of almost 60 Meals on Wheels and community
food assistance programs and the health sector, beneficiaries and Volunteer Food Services
 Consulting services and a documentation centre
 Group volunteerism
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MANDATE
As an organization, Volunteer Bureau of Montreal looks towards the future, with the understanding that
volunteerism holds a community together and that it plays an essential role in its development. On the
cusp of our 80th anniversary, VBM is in a renewal phase and the new Executive Director will play a
major role in how the Bureau evolves
evolves. Currently facing various challenges in the updating of our
systems and practices, VBM benefits from stable, solid financing that will ensure continuity over the
coming years. Since VBM recently completed an assessment of its activities, the next Executive
Director will be responsible for applying various recommendations proposed in the resulting report in
order to ensure that our efficiency and impact on society continues to grow.
As VBM looks to develop new activities, optimize others and abandon others still,

Director will play a major role in redefining our activities and scope. In this context, the Executive
Director must be a leader and a catalyst for change, as well as the standard-bearer

order to make VBM the leader in promoting, managing, developing and recruiting volunteers in the
Greater Montreal Region.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SPONSIBILITIES

Ensure efficient management of human resources, financing and materials, as well as propose
and develop initiatives that will optimize performance
Mobilize members of the team around our common goals and implement new projects
Work in close collaboration with our funding partners to ensure accountability and maintain
excellent working relationship

Nourish and develop member satisfaction with our services, initiate consultations or studies,
when necessary, to improve our offer
Collaborate with members of our board of directors by supporting the leadership of board
committees (notably, the financing and 80th anniversary committees)
Work closely with the auditor and treasurer to ensure financial and budget management
Assist the workings of the board of directors
Participate in the development and execution of the communications plan
Represent VBM to ensure the active participation of different community organizations, public
groups or associations that need our support
Participate in discussions about the 2013-2016 strategic plan and contribute to the development
of the 2016-2019 plan, and play an active role in its execution
REQUIRED PROFILE
Experience
In order to be considered for this mandate, candidates must have more than 10 years of experience;
including a minimum of five years spent in a role that required management of human resources,
financing and materials, preferably in a community organization in the associative or philanthropic
sector. Candidates with experience in the development of financing services, resources or activities will
be most welcome.
Education
University diploma in management or a related discipline is a requirement for applying to this position.

Developed political and strategic sensibilities
Able to communicate in English and French, both spoken and written
Highly developed common sense and ability to manage priorities

Ability to speak in public
Extensive administrative experience and strong organizational skills
Able to develop, negotiate and sustain successful partnerships
Adaptable and always willing to learn
Mastery of software tools
