Catholic Education Week – May 1-6, 2016 ~ “Catholic Education: Opening Doors of Mercy”
The disciples asked Jesus to ‘increase our faith’. That is our goal in publicly-funded Catholic education in
collaboration with the family and the parish. We know that keeping the theme of faith alive is a constant
challenge in our world of 2016. But, we can be assured by the words of the disciples, “Blessed are the
merciful, for they will receive mercy” (Matthew 5:7). Catholic Education Week takes place from Sunday, May 1
to Friday, May 6th. This provides an opportunity for the inclusion of all partners in the Catholic education
triad—home, parish, school to celebrate our publicly-funded Catholic schools. We are in need of the
support and prayers of the entire Catholic community to counteract the increasingly strident demand that the
funding of Catholic schools be terminated. Once again, we will have a province-wide Mass scheduled for
May 3, 2016 in our secondary schools, organized by our Catholic student trustees.

April 3, 2016 – Jesus is not angry with Thomas for not
believing; he does not judge him. He simply invites: here,
see, touch, and believe. Seeing-believing—for Thomas and
for us—is not merely an exercise in intellectual assent, but
a practical encounter played out through our acceptance of
the risen Life that is offered us. We know to whom and
what our belief is directed: to Jesus and the gift of risen
Life. We know how we receive risen Life: through Jesus’
gift of the breath of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.
Jesus’ resurrection is a divine pledge of “life in his name.”
Risen Life is God’s divine Life transforming who and how
we are. Resurrection makes all the difference—for us, for
all of creation.
