World Water Day is an international day observed by the
United Nations. It has been celebrated globally every year for more than 20 years
following the United Nations General Assembly’s designation of 22 March as ‘World
Water Day’ in 1993.
Each year, UN-Water – the entity that coordinates the UN’s work on water and
sanitation – sets a theme for World Water Day corresponding to a current or future
challenge. In 2016, the ILO leads the coordination of World Water Day under the
theme of
“W ater and Jobs”.
