Au Portugal, Jose Antonio Suarez découvrait la dernière version de la 208T16 et le pilote de la
Peugeot Rally Academy est passé par toutes les émotions. Alors que Pepe Lopez continue
d’engranger les points en 208 Rally Cup, c’est Andrea Carella qui s’est particulièrement
distingué à Antibes. L’Italien confirme donc le potentiel entrevu l’an dernier et remporte un
succès mérité.…

Pour sa première course au volant de la 208T16 « Evo », Jose Antonio Suarez s’est montré
performant au Portugal.

PEUGEOT RALLY ACADEMY : UN RALLYE CONTRASTE POUR JOSE ANTONIO SUAREZ !
Partis avec l’intention de progresser aux commandes de la toute nouvelle 208T16 « Evo », Jose
Antonio Suarez et Candido Carrera connaissaient un début de course difficile. Les
pensionnaires de la Peugeot Rally Academy signaient pourtant un probant huitième temps
dans la première spéciale disputée jeudi soir. Malheureusement pour l’équipage espagnol, un
tonneau dans l’ES2 ruinait tous ses espoirs de bon résultat. Grâce au formidable travail des
mécaniciens de la Peugeot Rally Academy qui remettaient la 208T16 en parfait état de
marche après cette escapade, s’en suivait une incroyable remontée au classement. En effet,
Suarez gagnait 10 places au classement général mais une double crevaison en fin de
troisième étape lui faisait perdre une nouvelle fois de précieuses minutes. Pour la dernière
journée de course, la consigne était claire : montrer le potentiel de l’équipage et de la 208T16,
ce que faisait parfaitement Suarez en réalisant une belle fin de rallye avec trois autres temps
dans le top 6. A l’issue de son premier rallye terre disputé avec une quatre roues motrices qu’il
concluait au 12ème rang final, Jose Antonio restait positif avant de se rendre en Italie pour la
prochaine épreuve de son programme mondial : « C’était un week-end enrichissant pour toute
l’équipe. Nous avons pu montrer à quel point la 208T16 ‘Evo’ est fiable et performante, c’est
un vrai plus par rapport à la version précédente. Hélas mon erreur en début de rallye nous a
couté pas mal de temps. Je remercie une nouvelle fois les mécaniciens de la Peugeot Rally
Academy qui m’ont permis de repartir avec une voiture remise en état et nous avons ainsi pu
continuer notre apprentissage. Je vais continuer à travailler et je suis impatient d’être en Italie
pour la prochaine épreuve. »
208 RALLY CUP : UN MATCH ITALIE - ESPAGNE !
Sur sa lancée de sa récente victoire au Terre des Causses, Pepe Lopez (Sainteloc Racing)
démarrait fort en enlevant les deux premières spéciales tandis que Stéphane Consani
(Automeca) sortait de la route dès l’ES2. Prudent dans le ‘chrono’ inaugural de Gréolières,
Andrea Carella (Power Car Team) passait à l’attaque dans la spéciale de Saint-Antonin et
prenait la tête de l’épreuve alors que Pepe Lopez avouait être en difficulté. Pendant ce tempslà, Jean-Baptiste Franceschi était éliminé suite à une sortie de route tout comme Jérémy
Fournier (H2L) et Anthony Fotia (Pit Stop). Dans l’après-midi, Pepe Lopez et Nil Solans
(Mavisa Sport) se montraient agressifs en enlevant les ES 4 et 5 mais Andrea Carella récidivait
dans le deuxième passage de Saint-Antonin, là où le matin même l’Italien avait fait la
différence. Ainsi au terme de la première journée de course, Carella devançait Solans et Lopez,
les trois hommes étant regroupés en moins de trente secondes.
Tout heureux de retrouver l’asphalte et plus particulièrement les routes de l’arrière-pays
Niçois, Emmanuel Gascou (AFC Racing) occupait une brillante quatrième place et précédait
une ‘horde’ du juniors bien décidés à faire parler la poudre le lendemain ! En effet, le top 8
était complété par Jérémie Toedtli (CHL Sport Auto) qui avouait être en pleine confiance,
William Wagner (PH Sport), Guillaume de Mevius (PH Sport) et un Quentin Ribaud (CHL
Sport Auto) décidément surprenant et satisfait d’approcher le rythme des meilleurs.
ANDREA CARELLA N’A PAS TREMBLE…
Le lendemain, Andrea Carella concédait du temps sur ses adversaires au cours de la première
boucle à cause d’un mauvais choix de réglages pendant que Nil Solans et Pepe Lopez ne
relâchaient pas la pression exercée sur l’Italien. La chaleur s’accentuait dans l’après-midi, ce
qui rendait certaines parties de goudron glissantes. Difficile dans ces conditions de faire une
différence et Andrea Carella filait vers son premier succès en France. Pepe Lopez prenait le
meilleur sur son compatriote Nil Solans et faisait la bonne opération du week-end . Sa
deuxième place combinée aux 3 points attribués au meilleur performeur. permettaient à
l’Espagnol faire de faire le trou au classement de la 208 Rally Cup !
Malgré un mauvais choix de pneumatiques dans la matinée, Jérémie Toedtli parvenait à
récupérer les points de la quatrième place devant William Wagner. Ces deux pilotes
terminaient ainsi pour la deuxième fois consécutive dans les points, tout comme Emmanuel
Gascou. Aux portes du podium la veille, celui qui faisait figure ‘d’ancien’ sur ce Rallye
d’Antibes avouait être moins à l’aise sur les routes de la deuxième étape. Il finissait tout de
même à une probante sixième place qui le satisfaisait pleinement à l’arrivée.
En délicatesse avec ses freins tout au long du week-end, Quentin Ribaud confirmait son
excellent début de saison en terminant au septième rang. Retardé par une crevaison au cours
de la première journée, Bruno Riberi (CHL Sport Auto) parvenait à gagner 6 positions au cours
de la deuxième étape pour compléter le top 8 en devançant Efren Llarena (Raceseven) et
Patrick Magnou (Pit Stop).
Pour la prochaine manche de la 208 Rally Cup, les concurrents se retrouveront au Rallye
Terre de Langres. D’ici là, les 208 R2 passeront en configuration terre pour affronter les pistes
Haut-Marnaises les 24, 25 et 26 juin prochains.

TOUS LES FRONTS EN RALLYE !
Le week-end prochain sera placé sous le signe du rallye pour Peugeot Sport ! Alors que 31
concurrents s’affronteront dans le cadre de la 208 Rally Cup au Rallye Antibes Côte d’Azur, le
tenant du titre, Jose Antonio Suarez défendra les couleurs de la Peugeot Rally Academy en
WRC2 au Rallye du Portugal…

Changement de surface pour la 208 Rally Cup : après la terre aveyronnaise, l’asphalte de
l’arrière-pays Niçois accueille la deuxième manche.

Battu lors de la première manche, le record d’inscrits est désormais égalé puisque 31 208
R2 sont attendues au départ !

Dans le même temps, Jose Antonio Suarez (lauréat de la 208 Rally Cup 2015) sera aux
commandes de la 208T16 au départ du ‘Vodafone Rally de Portugal’, deuxième épreuve
de son programme en WRC2 au sein de la Peugeot Rally Academy.
Cap au Portugal en WRC2 pour « Cohete » Suarez
Alors que 31 pilotes de la 208 Rally Cup seront en train d’en découdre pour lui succéder sur
les routes françaises, Jose Antonio Suarez aura fort à faire en Championnat du Monde des
Rallyes. Au volant de la 208T16 en version « EVO » de la Peugeot Rally Academy, l’Espagnol
espère bien profiter de son expérience de la terre acquise l’an passé en 208 Rally Cup pour
réaliser une grosse performance en terre lusitanienne. Avec 26 partants en WRC 2, Jose
Antonio Suarez et Candido Carrera vont pouvoir rivaliser avec les références de la catégorie,
ce qui n’effraie pas Jose Antonio :
« Avec toute l’équipe de la Peugeot Rally Academy et mon entourage, nous sommes tous très
motivés au moment d’aborder le Rallye du Portugal. Nous avons beaucoup travaillé lors de
notre dernière séance d’essai et nous avons pu compter sur l’aide précieuse de Carlos Sainz. Je
veux continuer à apprivoiser ma 208T16 et à donner le meilleur de moi-même pour toutes les
personnes qui nous soutiennent ! »

De la terre au Portugal à l’asphalte en France….
Alors que la saison avait démarré au Rallye Terre des Causses, les 208 R2 sont passées en
configuration ‘asphalte’ pour permettre à leurs pilotes de s’aguerrir sur une surface différente.
Ainsi, les concurrents sont une nouvelle fois confrontés à un changement de surface, véritable
particularité de la 208 Rally Cup. Avec des spéciales sinueuses et techniques qui servent
également de cadre au mythique Rallye Monte-Carlo, le Rallye Antibes Côte d’Azur est une
épreuve de référence. L’an passé, de nombreux concurrents de la 208 Rally Cup s’étaient fait
piéger par ces routes de légende…
Un plateau démoniaque !
Parmi les 31 équipages engagés, un quelconque pronostic s’avère vite risqué. En revanche, il
faudra tout particulièrement surveiller les 21 pilotes de la catégorie ‘Junior’ (nés après le 1er
janvier 1993) qui trustent les avant-postes en ce début d’année puisque les trois premiers du
classement général sont des ‘Juniors’ et cinq pilotes de cette catégorie sont présents dans le
‘top 10’ du classement général.
Premier vainqueur de la saison, Pepe Lopez (Sainteloc Racing) part évidemment favori au
même titre que Jean-Baptiste Franceschi, abonné au podium depuis le fin de saison dernière
et qui compte bien enlever sa première victoire à domicile. Neuvième sur cette épreuve l’an
dernier, William Wagner (PH Sport) est en forme et il peut espérer marquer de gros points tout
comme Nil Solans (Mavisa Sport), auteur de performances remarquées au Rallye de
L’Escarène où de nombreux protagonistes de la 208 Rally Cup sont venus se roder fin avril.
Bruno Riberi (CHL Sport Auto) et Andrea Carella (Power Car Team), respectivement deuxième
et troisième en 2015, Stéphane Consani (Automeca), qui menait le rallye avant d’abandonner
l’an passé, ainsi que Patrick Magnou (Pit Stop), sont eux aussi à surveiller.
Absents lors de la première manche, 6 nouveaux pilotes sont au départ. Parmi eux, on note la
présence de Xavier Quinsac (William Odou, Easy Rally) dont on ne compte plus les
participations à Antibes. Jonathan Boueri (Chazel Technologie Course) est également attendu
et il aura à coeur d’effacer sa sortie de route de l’an dernier. Troisième du Championnat de
France Junior sur cette même épreuve en 2015, Anthony Fotia (Pit Stop) va découvrir les
‘joutes’ de la 208 Rally Cup, tout comme Jérémy Fournier (H2 L), Brandon Maisano (FB Rally)
l’ex-pistard, et Yoann Salvadero (Automeca) qui participera tout simplement à son premier
rallye !

SECURES TOP 208 RALLY CUP HONOURS
The 2016 Rally de Portugal provided the Peugeot Rally Academy’s Jose Antonio Suarez with
his first competitive drive in the Evo version of the 208T16, but it was an emotional
rollercoaster of a weekend for the Spaniard! In France, Pepe Lopez collected further 208 Rally
Cup points, although Andrea Carella was the man to beat in Antibes. The Italian confirmed
the potential he showed last season to earn a deserved victory.

PEUGEOT RALLY ACADEMY: CONTRASTING FORTUNES FOR JOSE ANTONIO SUAREZ
Jose Antonio Suarez and Candido Carrera started the 2016 Rally de Portugal intent on
making progress in the brand new Evo version of the 208T16. However, the early part of the
rally turned out to be more challenging than expected. The Peugeot Rally Academy pair
began well by posting an encouraging eighth-fastest time on the opening stage, but their
chances of a top result were dashed by a roll on the following test. Slick work by the Peugeot
Rally Academy’s mechanics soon restored their 208T16 back to perfect shape and the 2015
208 Rally Cup winners were able to focus on fighting their way back up the order. They
effectively gained 10 places in the overall standings before a double puncture at the end of the
third day cost them more valuable time. They used the final leg to show their speed and that
of their 208T16 by posting three more top-six stage times. The Spaniard concluded his first
gravel outing in a four-wheel drive car in 12th position and in a positive frame of mind ahead
of the his next WRC programme sortie in Sardinia, Italy: “It was a useful weekend for the
whole team. We showed that the 208T16 Evo is both reliable and competitive and that it
marks a definite step forward compared with the former version. Unfortunately, my early
mistake cost us a big chunk of time. I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the Peugeot Rally
Academy’s mechanics who repaired my car perfectly to get me back running again, enabling
us to continue our apprenticeship of the WRC. I will continue to work hard and I can’t wait for
our next rally in Italy.”
208 RALLY CUP: ITALY VS SPAIN!
Pepe Lopez (Sainteloc Racing) followed up his recent Rallye Terre des Causses success by
claiming the first two stages of the Rallye Antibes Côte d’Azur, but Stéphane Consani
(Automeca) crashed out of contention on SS2. Andrea Carella (Power Car Team) took a
cautious approach to the Gréolières stage before upping his pace on the following test (SaintAntonin) to appear in front as Pepe Lopez admitted he was having difficulty. Jean-Baptiste
Franceschi, Jérémy Fournier (H2L) and Anthony Fotia (Pit Stop) were all side-lined by offs,
meanwhile. The afternoon saw Pepe Lopez and Nil Solans (Mavisa Sport) push hard to win
SS4 and SS5, but Andrea Carella topped the timesheet on the second visit to Saint-Antonin,
the stage that saw him take control the same morning. At the end of Day 1, Carella, Solans
and Lopez were covered by less than 30 seconds.
Delighted to be back on asphalt and competing in the mountains that tower over the French
Riviera again, Emmanuel Gascou (AFC Racing) was fourth, pursued by a pack of juniors who
had every intention of continuing their strong runs on the second leg! The provisional top eight
was rounded out by the confident Jérémie Toedtli (CHL Sport Auto), William Wagner (PH
Sport), Guillaume de Mevius (PH Sport) and the surprising Quentin Ribaud (CHL Sport Auto)
who was pleased to be getting close to the times of the 2016 208 Rally Cup’s front-runners.
ANDREA CARELLA UNFAZED!
The next day saw Carella drop a little time during the opening competitive loop due to a poor
tyre choice and Nil Solans and Pepe Lopez duly maintained their pressure on the Italian. The
afternoon’s weather was much hotter, causing the asphalt to become very slippery in places.
It was consequently difficult for the chasers to make any real inroads on Carella’s lead and
the latter was able to cruise home to his first victory on French soil. Lopez successfully
defended second place from compatriot Nil Solans to ensure an appreciable points haul which
was further swelled by the three bonus points for the driver who posted the highest number of
stage victories wins. As a result, the Spaniard has extended his lead in the provisional 208
Rally Cup standings.
Jérémie Toedtli recovered from a poor tyre choice in the morning to collect fourth, ahead of
William Wagner. Both drivers finished in the points for the second time in a row, as did
Emmanuel Gascou who felt less comfortable on the second day’s stages after completing Leg
1 just shy of the podium. The hardened campaigner was nevertheless satisfied with sixth
place at the final whistle.
Quentin Ribaud overcame weekend-long brake problems to continue his excellent start to the
season by finishing seventh. Bruno Riberi (CHL Sport Auto) was slowed by a puncture on the
opening day but subsequently recovered six places to round out the top eight, ahead of Efren
Llarena (Raceseven) and Patrick Magnou (Pit Stop).
The next round of the 208 Rally Cup will take participants to eastern France for the all-gravel
Rallye Terre de Langres on June 24-26.

FRANCE THE SAME WEEKEND FOR PEUGEOT SPORT!
Peugeot Sport faces a packed programme of topflight rallying this weekend. While 31 crews
battle for 208 Rally Cup supremacy at the Rallye Antibes Côte d’Azur in the south of France,
the competition’s 2015 winner Jose Antonio Suarez will be defending the colours of the
Peugeot Rally Academy at WRC2 level at the Rally de Portugal.

After the recent all-gravel Rallye Terre des Causses in France, the 208 Rally Cup’s second
round marks a switch to asphalt as the series moves into the mountains that tower over
the French Riviera.

A new record for the competition’s biggest entry was established at the opening round
when no fewer than 31 208 R2s lined up for the start. The same figure is expected for the
season’s second clash!

Meanwhile, last year’s 208 Rally Cup victor Jose Antonio Suarez will be competing in a
208T16 at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, the second outing of his WRC2 campaign with
the Peugeot Rally Academy.
Portugal and WRC2 action for ‘Cohete’ Suarez
While 31 crews will be competing in the south of France in a bid to follow in his footsteps as
winner of the 2015 208 Rally Cup, Jose Antonio Suarez will be in Portugal getting another
taste of world championship action. This time, the Spaniard, who will drive the Peugeot Rally
Academy-liveried EVO version of the 208T16, will be looking to take advantage of the
experience he gained on dirt within the framework of the 208 Rally Cup in his bid to harvest a
top result at Europe’s western tip. The Rally de Portugal has attracted a 26-strong entry in
the WRC2 class but Jose Antonio Suarez and Candido Carrera are unfazed by the prospect of
competing against the category’s established front-runners.
“Along with everyone at the Peugeot Rally Academy and the people in my entourage, we are
all fired up and looking forward to the Rally de Portugal,” says the Spanish youngster. “We
had a good test recently and we have even had some great help from Carlos Sainz. I want to
continue to familiarise myself with the 208T16 and give my very best as my way of paying
back all those who have helped us.”

On the asphalt of the French Riviera
Following the season’s opener on the all-gravel Rallye Terre des Causses, the 208 R2s will
switch to asphalt trim as the calendar provides this year’s competitors with their first
opportunity to show their skills on sealed surfaces. The twisty, technically-challenging stages
of the Rallye Antibes Côte d’Azur visit the same region that serves as backdrop to the famous
Rallye Monte-Carlo and the exercise will consequently serve as a useful benchmark for 208
Rally Cup runners, many of whom were caught out by the same awesome mountain roads
this time last year…
An exciting entry
It is difficult to pick out a single potential winner from the 31-strong entry list and a close eye
will need to be kept on the 21 crews listed in the Junior class (born after January 1, 1993) who
currently monopolise the top three places in the standings, with two more figuring inside the
provisional top 10.
The opening round was won by Pepe Lopez (Sainteloc Racing) who stands out as one of the
favourites, while Jean-Baptiste Franceschi – a consistent podium finisher since the end of last
season – would love to pick up his first victory on home soil. Meanwhile, William Wagner (PH
Sport), who came ninth on this event in 2015, is on good form at the moment and hoping for a
top points haul, just like Nil Solans (Mavisa Sport) who showed well on late April’s Rallye de
L’Escarène which numerous 208 Rally Cup runners contested in order to prepare for this
weekend’s Rallye Antibes Côte d’Azur. Others to watch are Bruno Riberi (CHL Sport Auto) and
Andrea Carella (Power Car Team), who were respectively second and third in Antibes in 2015,
Stéphane Consani (Automeca), who retired while leading last year, and Patrick Magnou (Pit
Stop).
The roll-call also includes six drivers who missed the opening round, including Antibes regular
Xavier Quinsac (William Odou, Easy Rally), Jonathan Boueri (Chazel Technologie Course),
who crashed out last year, and Anthony Fotia (Pit Stop) who was third in the Junior French
Championship classification here in 2015 and who will be getting his first taste of the 208
Rally Cup this time round. The list continues with Jérémy Fournier (H2 L), former racer
Brandon Maisano (FB Rally) and Yoann Salvadero (Automeca) who is making his rally debut!
