To Fiorina, “[t]he ‘culture war’ refers to a displacement of the classic economic conflicts that animated
twentieth-century politics in the advanced democracies by newly emergent moral and religious ones”
(2). The term culture war is a literal translation of the German word kulturkampf but its mainstream
meaning comes from sociologist James Davison Hunter's book Culture Wars: The Struggle to Define
America, published in 1991, that divided Americans into “the culturally ‘orthodox’ and the culturally
‘progressive’ and argued that increasing conflict was inevitable” (Fiorina et al. 3).

The footnote referencing system...
In theory, with the footnote referencing system, there is no need for the Works Cited page. However, you
will be require to write a bibliography. For the Burke citation above, the reference in the bibliography at
the end of your paper will look like this (same as with the in-text referencing system):
