What is Golden Bike?
The Golden Bike series was launched in 1999
to enhance the participation experience of
cycle-tourists and was initially based on
4 events in 3 European countries. This year
once again, the aim of the series is to contribute
to the promotion of high level cycle touring
competitions from an organisational as well as
a sports and tourism perspective.
In view of the resounding success of last
year’s series, 3 new races have been added
to the Golden Bike 2000 programme. You
will now have the opportunity of riding in
Belgium and Germany, as well as Italy, France
and Switzerland, which are once again
featured on the calendar this year. To close the
2000 Golden Bike season and as an excellent
preview of the World Championships circuit,
the final will take place on a part of that
circuit on 7th October in Plouay (France).
Le label Golden Bike a été créé en 1999 pour
valoriser les performances et la participation
des cyclotouristes et regroupait 4 courses dans
3 pays européens. Cette année encore, l’objectif
consiste à contribuer à la promotion des
épreuves cyclotouristes présentant des critères
de haute qualité, tant en ce qui concerne
l’organisation que l’intérêt sportif et touristique
qu’elles représentent. Etant donné le vif succès
remporté l’année dernière, 3 nouvelles courses
sont venues compléter le calendrier des
épreuves du Golden Bike 2000. En effet, vous
pourrez maintenant pédaler en Belgique et
en Allemagne, en plus de l’Italie, la France et
la Suisse, toujours présentes cette année. Pour
clore la saison du Golden Bike 2000, la finale
sera organisée en avant première sur une partie
du tracé des Championnats du Monde le
7 octobre à Plouay (France).

On Saturday 1st April 2000, one day before the pros,
the new edition of the Tour of Flanders for cycletourists and mountain bikers will be held. More than
4000 cycle-tourists and Mountain Bikers will be
given the opportunity to experience the atmosphere
of the Tour of Flanders and will be able to test their
performance on the bike.
Anyone who has already covered a fairly good number of kilometres on the bike will no doubt be ready
to face this challenge and attempt to ride the full
distance of 270 km, on the same circuit as the pros.
The start will kick off this year for the first time at
the «Grand Place de Bruges» in order to soak up the
atmosphere of the «Tour».
For those cycling fans who want to take part, but
would like something a little bit less strenuous, a
ride of 140 or 70 km has been planned, with the
start and finish in Ninove.
The Tour of Flanders is also a unique experience for
all lovers of Mountain Biking. They will have the
choice between three distances: 25-50-75 km. Both
the start and finish will be in Ninove.
Le samedi 1er avril 2000, soit un jour avant les pros,
aura lieu la nouvelle édition du Tour des Flandres pour
cyclotouristes et VTT-istes. Plus de 4000 cyclotouristes
et VTT-istes vivront l’ambiance du Tour des Flandres et
feront preuve de leurs meilleures qualités cyclistes.
Celui qui a déjà parcouru un bon nombre de kilomètres
peut sans aucun doute relever le défi et tenter alors le
parcours complet de 270 km, qui suit exactement le
parcours des pros. Le départ est donné cette année-ci
pour la première fois sur la Grand Place de Bruges afin
de se rapprocher encore plus de l’atmosphère du
«Tour».
Pour le fana de sport qui veut malgré tout être de la
partie, mais qui souhaite quelque chose d’un peu plus
calme, on a prévu un parcours de 140 ou 70 km, avec
départ et arrivée à Ninove.
Le Tour des Flandres est également une expérience
particulière pour tout mordu du VTT. Il aura le choix
entre trois distances: 25-50-75 km. Le départ et l’arrivée sont prévus à Ninove.

For five years, Bergamo has been hosting one of the
best-known sports activities on the amateur cycling
calendar. On the first Sunday in May each year, the
City of the Thousand – so called because it sent a
thousand soldiers to Garibaldi's command – becomes
the capital of the «Four Thousand», because there
are so many cyclists on the streets of the Bergamo
area to take part in the GRAN FONDO INTERNAZIONALE FELICE GIMONDI, the cycling event bearing the name of the great champion from Bergamo.
But our «Gimondi» is something more. The GRAN
FONDO INTERNAZIONALE FELICE GIMONDI welcomes
all cyclists, from the toughest to those who just
want to have «a day out on a bike», and everyone
can find the ride which suits them in the list of three
proposed by the organisation.
In addition, refreshments with musical groups at the
halts, mobile and stationery mechanical assistance
along the way, après-cycle relaxation with massage
and pasta party, a special welcome for «cycling ladies».
Da cinque anni Bergamo ospita una delle manifestazioni sportive di più grande richiamo del calendario ciclistico amatoriale. Infatti ogni prima domenica di maggio, la Città dei Mille, così chiamata per aver dato i
natali alla spedizione di un migliaio di soldati al
comando di Garibaldi, diventa la capitale dei «quattromila», tanti sono i ciclisti attesi sulle strade della bergamasca per partecipare alla GRAN FONDO INTERNAZIONALE FELICE GIMONDI, la manifestazione ciclistica
che porta il nome del grande campione bergamasco.
Ma la nostra «Gimondi» è qualcosa di più. La GRAN
FONDO INTERNAZIONALE FELICE GIMONDI accoglie
tutti i ciclisti, dai più allenati a chi semplicemente
vuole fare «un giro in bici», e chiunque può trovare il
percorso che più gli si addice tra la terna di tracciati
che l'organizzazione propone.
Inoltre ristori con bande musicali per allietare la
sosta, assistenza meccanica in corsa mobile e fissa,
relax del dopo gara con massaggi e pasta party, speciale accoglienza per le «donne del ciclismo», insomma un evento che è qualcosa di più di una semplice
evento ciclistico.

Sunday 21st May, coinciding with the 8th stage of the
Giro d'Italia, the 7th Pedalata Rosa, organised by RCS
Sport on behalf of La Gazzetta dello Sport is on the
programme. Covering the last stretch of the Corinaldo
Prato stage, the Pedalata will wind like a pink snake
through the plains and gentle hills of Tuscany. On
arrival in the town, after crossing the Giro finishing
line, the thousands of participants can enjoy their
well-deserved refreshments.
The Pedalata Rosa is non-competitive, and was set
up in 1994 to meet the wishes of many cycling fans
who dreamt of wearing the colours of the great
champions, riding along a section of the Giro D'Italia
and wearing the legendary pink vest, which is now
supplied to all the participants along with the exclusive protective helmet.
Since last year's event, the Pedalata Rosa has become
part of the UCI Golden Bike Trophy. The International
Cycling Union has decided to take bicycle touring
under its umbrella, and has designed a trophy for the
best European amateur cyclists, with final recognition
for those taking part in all the races.
Domenica 21 maggio, in coincidenza con 18a tappa del
Giro d’Italia, è in programma la 7a edizione della Pedalata Rosa, organizzata da RCS Sport per conto de La
Gazzetta dello Sport. Percorrendo gli ultimi chilometri
della tappa Corinaldo-Prato, la Pedalata snoderà il suo
serpentone rosa lungo la pianura e le dolci colline
toscane. All’arrivo in città, dopo essere transitati sotto
lo striscione del traguardo del Giro, le migliaia di partecipanti potranno usufruire di un meritato ristoro.
La Pedalata Rosa è una non competitiva, nata nel
1994 per venire incontro al desiderio dei moltissimi
cicloamatori che sognano di vestire i panni dei grandi
campioni, pedalando lungo un tracciato del Giro d’Italia e indossando la mitica maglia rosa, che viene appunto fornita a tutti i partecipanti insieme all’esclusivo
casco protettivo.
Dall’edizione dello scorso anno, la Pedelata Rosa è
inserita nel Trofeo Golden Bike dell’UCI. L’Unione Ciclistica Internazionale ha deciso di valorizzare anche il
cicloturismo e ha pensato a un trofeo che colleghi le
maggiori pedalate cicloamatoriali europee, con un riconoscimento finale per chi partecipa a tutte le corse.

In villages, over bumps, on the flat, up hills, through
the undergrowth, in Saint-Félicien, the «Ardéchoise»
has grown up without ageing.
Its winding route covers 252 km with the main
attraction being the «Mont-Gerbier-de-Jonc» where
the Loire has its source.
Open to cyclists and cycle-tourists, the race will take
place on Saturday 17th June 2000 with the start
at 7.30 a.m. in Saint-Félicien (Ardèche). More than
12,000 cyclists are expected.
Rankings will be given as follows: scratch, by category, by team and the best climber of the 15 passes
or 12 or 10 depending on the route chosen.
Using the latest computer software, a certificate will
be given to each participant giving the following
information: performances, times, averages, ranking,
gap with the first rider, etc.
Extensive safety precautions have been planned with
30 ambulances, emergency services, doctors, nurses,
paramedics, masseurs as well as 2 helicopters on
standby. 3,500 volunteers will ensure the safety of
riders and provide refreshments during the race.
A warm welcome in the country, numerous gifts, the
race does not need to provide any further proof for its
success.
Dans les villages, sur les bosses, dans les creux, les
pentes, les sous-bois et les pensées les plus téméraires,
à Saint-Félicien, l’Ardéchoise a grandi depuis sans
jamais vieillir.
Son parcours sinueux se développe sur 252 km avec en
point d’orgue le Mont-Gerbier-de-Jonc où la Loire prend
sa source.
Cyclosportive et cyclotouriste, l’épreuve se déroulera le
samedi 17 juin 2000 avec un départ donné à 7 h 30 à
Saint-Félicien (Ardèche). Près de 12 000 sportifs sont
attendus.
Le classement pour le cyclo averti: scratch, par catégorie, par équipe et du meilleur grimpeur avec 15 cols à
franchir ou 12 ou 10 selon le parcours choisi.
Une informatique au top permet dans des temps
records de délivrer un diplôme à chaque concurrent sur
lequel sont mentionnés: performances, temps, moyennes, classement, écart avec le premier, etc.
Une sécurité renforcée avec 30 ambulances, SAMU,
médecins, infirmières, secouristes, masseurs, 2 hélicoptères sont mobilisés. 3 500 bénévoles assurent protection et ravitaillement des cyclistes.
Accueil au pays, cadeaux multiples, le succès de
l’épreuve n’est plus à prouver.

Popular cycling race open to all, the «Cyclotour du
Léman» gives the opportunity to reasonably fit
women and men to cycle one of the three proposed
routes.
A picturesque setting, a fairly easy route practically
all on the flat, with very little difference in height
over the 178 km, participants can ride in total safety
thanks to their highly-visible equipment and the
motorbike riders that will escort them, with full
technical back-up and numerous refreshment posts.
The starts – which will be staggered – will begin at
8 a.m. for the long tour from the Olympic Museum. For
the riders doing the half-tour, transport will be organised by boat from the port in Lausanne. «La Plaine de
Plainpalais» in Geneva will be the start location for riders doing the 62 km.
For this fourth edition, the organisers have planned
contests, entertainment and a party atmosphere at the
finish. In addition to a full set of equipment and a
souvenir prize, a certificate will be given to each participant at the finish and the results will be able to be
consulted the same evening on the Internet.
Randonnée cyclosportive populaire ouverte à tous, le
Cyclotour du Léman permet aux femmes et hommes
plus ou moins entraînés de parcourir un des trois parcours proposés.
Cadre idyllique, parcours relativement facile, puisque
pratiquement à plat, avec très peu de dénivelé, sur les
178 km, l’intérêt pour les participants est de rouler en
toute sécurité, facilement repérables grâce à leurs
équipements et aux motards qui les accompagnent,
rassurés par une assistance technique et sanitaire, et
de nombreux postes de ravitaillement.
Les départs – échelonnés – seront donnés à partir de
8h00 pour le grand tour depuis la fontaine du Musée
Olympique. Pour les coureurs qui rouleront le demitour, le transfert est prévu en bateau depuis le débarcadère de Lausanne. La Plaine de Painpalais, à
Genève, verra elle s’élancer les coureurs pour le tiers
du tour du lac Léman.
Pour cette quatrième édition, les organisateurs ont
prévu concours, animations et convivialité à l’arrivée.
En plus de l’équipement complet et du cadeau souvenir, un diplôme sera remis à chacun à l’arrivée et les
résultats pourront être consultés, le soir même déjà,
sur Internet.

RiderMan is a major cycle touring weekend in the
southern part of Germany where everybody is very
welcome, so bring your bike, your friends and your
family along. Honoured to be a member of the selected circle of UCI-approved Golden Bike races,
you´ll be mostly welcome to enjoy Bad Dürrheim´s
hospitality and beauty on an indian summer weekend
packed with competitive and touristic cycling.
Many side events, lots of music and a great cycling
fair just underline the good times to expect. Starting
with an easy warm-up-round, accompanied by former
cyclostars (aprox. 40 km) on Friday, you´ll be well
prepared for the unique individual time trial on Saturday (aprox. 30 km) and the highlight of the RiderMan 2000 on Sunday, the street race where you´ll
pick your favourite distance. On a round course of
60 km you can ride the 60 km/120 km/180 km or the
marathon of 240 km. And we are easy to reach from
France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Austria and Italy!
All public traffic will be banned from the course
while the RiderMan is held. Individual timing, pasta
parties, medical and technical services are as self
evident as the traditional good weather conditions.

professionellen Bedingungen am Sonnabend und den
Höhepunkt am Sonntag: das Straßenrennen. Auf einem
abgesperrten 60 km-Rundkurs können Sie hier nach
Lust und Kondition die Distanz frei wählen. So können
Sie 60 km/120 km/180 km oder die Marathonstrecke
von 240 km fahren.
Individuelle Zeitmessung, medizinische und technische
Versorgung sind genauso selbstverständlich wie unsere
traditionell guten Wetterbedingungen. Und wir sind
leicht zu erreichen aus Frankreich, Belgien, Holland,
Luxemburg, der Schweiz, Österreich und Italien!

The final of this year’s Golden Bike will be held on
Saturday 7th October in Plouay (Western France) with
two races of 112 and 157 km.
The Golden Bike final will take place on the Road
World Championships circuit, a week before the
Championships (the 7th October for the final and the
15th for the Championships). As a participant in the
final, you will also be given the opportunity to buy
tickets (at a reduced price) to watch the various
races at the World Championships.
The Golden Bike final will start and finish on the
World Championships finish line. The first 47 km of
the route will pass through the attractive Britanny
countryside and the second stretch will be on a section of the Championships time-trial circuit.
If you also wish to attend the Road World Championships (races start on 9th October and finish with the
Elite Road race on the Sunday 15th), please contact:
La finale du Golden Bike aura lieu le samedi 7 octobre

campagne bretonne et la deuxième boucle empruntera
certaines routes du circuit des contre-la-montre des
Championnats.
