When I was invited to be an artist in residence at the école cantonale d'art du Valais in Sierre, I thought it was a great opportunity to get away from my normal practice as an artist in Mexico. And considering that I am here for only 6 weeks, working in a very different place to which I am used to, I have decided to create a dialogue with the environment. Exhibition "Swiss Made" is the title I have choosen for the exhibition to play with the idea of mass comsumption products made in Switzerland. I am working on a series of small format sculptures in which I intend to make a reference both to the tradition and origins of chocolate manufacturing. The sculptures are prototypes for chocolate forms. Workshop Paralell to my residency, I am running a workshop with a group of the students from the school. I have decided to attempt an outdoors project which relies on the weather conditions (november-december). We will make a video piece in the mountains, away from the School environment, of myself trying to snowboard. In making this work, I hope to create a tension between two cultures within the contemporary practice of snowboarding in this specific landscape. The workshop will consist of the production of a video: > the shooting of the video footage > photo documentation of the shoot > the selection of the sound or music for the final piece > the editing of the video. The students and I have collaborated on every stage of this process.
