Le pôle universitaire de Shanghai est un projet majeur tant par son ampleur que
par les enjeux qu’il représente : l’éducation des futurs cadres du Parti Communiste
Chinois. Il est constitué d’une bibliothèque, d’une tour administrative, de plusieurs
amphithéâtres et salles de cours, ainsi que d’un complexe sportif et de logements
étudiants. Ce programme complexe est unifié par un long auvent rouge, tour à
tour toiture, façade ou hall. La toiture de chaque bloc est cernée d’une poutre
périphérique, en treillis avec un ensemble de poutres transversales. Elle s’appuie
tantôt sur les poutres transversales soutenues par la structure béton des bâtiments,
tantôt sur les pieds redescendant au sol. Dans la zone en porte-à-faux, les appuis
du bloc central sont relayés par une sculpture en acier évoquant la calligraphie
chinoise. Une passerelle longue de 300 m vient relier les différents blocs.
The Shanghai University Centre is a major project both in terms of size and the
issues at stake: the education of future cadres of the Chinese Communist Party.
It consists of a library, administrative tower, lecture theatres and classrooms, as
well as a sports centre and student accommodation. The unifying element of
this complex program is a long red canopy, by turns a roof, a facade and a hall.
The roof of each block is surrounded by a
beam which meshes with a series of cross
beams. It rests partly on the crossbeams,
supported by the concrete structure of
the buildings, and partly on supports
anchored in the ground. In the cantilevered
section, the supports of the central block
dialogue with a steel sculpture recalling
Chinese calligraphy. A 300 m-long walkway
connects the various blocks.
