A Word From Our Director
Upcoming Events
Thank you to all the parents who organized and helped
at our Fall Fun Day: Dominique Marier, Jennifer Innes,
Sophie Arcand, Natalie Fallon, Nancy Kelly, Dominique
Pierre, Jessica Marino and Stéphane Courville. We had a
great turn-out of choristers and it was, overall, a fun and
productive day! Be sure to read Rhiannon’s wonderful
article in the Chorister’s Corner on page 2.
Anyone who has ever sung in a choir knows that sharing
music during the Christmas season brings much joy to
many! This year we have lightened the schedule and
look forward to singing for the University Club of
Montreal (Gr. 5-11) a local elementary school, and our
adoring public (!) at our annual Christmas Concert.
If there are any concerts that your child is unable to
sing, please let us know ASAP. We expect that your
child will be present at the SSCC Christmas Concert on
December 13th and that you will give them your support.
Don’t forget our Remembrance Day performance
this Sunday, November 10th. We will be singing in the
park at the corner of Green and Notre-Dame in StLambert. Please note that if it rains, the ceremony will
take place in the old post office building on the far side
of the park. Remember to dress warmly, unless it is
raining, in which case choir uniforms are required.
Please see the description of the event on page 4.
1. Special Rehearsal – Sunday, November 17th
Don’t forget our special rehearsal for ALL members at
St. Andrew’s Church, corner of Birch & Green in St.
Lambert. We will be rehearsing music for the Christmas
season and the Cabaret.
2. Christmas concert for the University Club of
Montreal. 2047 Mansfield, Montreal.
Please remember that ALL permission slips for choir
events should be returned even if your child cannot
attend. Just put a note of explanation at the bottom of
the slip where it says “Questions/Comments.” This will
save the director many phone calls! Thank you.
Tuesday, December 10th 7:30 p.m. for High School
and Grade 5 & 6 Members. Our senior members
have participated in this event for many years and it
is always a special treat – we get fed! The choir will
sing two sets of songs during the guest’s dinner and
lead a carol sing along at the end. Please try to
arrange carpools so that one set of parents drives
downtown and another set picks up at 9:15 p.m.
Gr.5 members do not have to stay for the whole event
and may leave after the first set of songs and
refreshments.
Choir Uniforms
By now, all new members should have received their
choir uniform. Just a reminder – your child needs a longsleeved white boy’s shirt to wear with the uniform (not a
girl’s blouse) along with dark shoes and beige
pantyhose.
Candidates for SSCC music director for next season
Please be advised that 3 of the applicants will be taking
20-25 minutes of the rehearsals on November 13th, 20th
and 27th. We are asking our high school members to
come early if they can for those 3 weeks to help prepare
for the Christmas concert with the Gr.3-6 students. If
they can arrive to start singing at 4:35 it would be
appreciated. Students who finish school later – please
just join the rehearsal when you can. Many thanks!
Choristers will be given a short survey to

SSCC Fall Fun Day
By Rhiannon Corrigan
I absolutely loved this event. Fall fun day gave us time to socialize with new and old members. It also gave us time to
improve our voices to become a better choir!
Even though we had to be serious during practice time, we still enjoyed fun activities. Lucky for us primary students, we
had a little more fun time. We decorated pumpkins in a high schooler free zone (no offense high-schoolers)!
My favourite thing about our practice was that we started learning our Christmas songs and carols. We usually have a lot
of concerts, so we needed to get started early.
Who could forget our spaghetti supper!?! I thought it was an excellent idea to serve both a tomato sauce and meat sauce
so that the whole choir, including the vegetarians, could enjoy the meal. Making our own sundaes was really awesome
too. We could put whatever we liked on our sundaes, including rainbow sprinkles, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, and
Oreo pieces.
All in all, Fall Fun Day was a memorable occasion! I would like to give a nice, big THANK YOU to all of the parents
who volunteered to make this event so special.

REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE
Sunday November 10
On Sunday, November 10 at 2:00 pm the SSCC will be singing for the Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day
ceremony at the Cenotaph in St. Lambert. The Service is outside so the children should dress warmly- warm
coat/jacket, hat, gloves, even boots are good if it is a cold day. NO blue jeans, please. Children should wear a poppy
and their choir pin on their coat if they have one. Extra poppies will be supplied. Please practice the words for:
a. O Canada and God Save The Queen
b. O God Our Help in Ages Past, and
c. In Flanders Fields
This will be a memorable event for our choristers. Betty-Jo has attended this event for many years to remember her
uncle who was lost at sea in WWII. The SSCC will sing In Flanders Fields, like the Ottawa Children's Choir does
each year on Parliament Hill .
