THIERRY D’ISTRIA
Born on March 21st 1968
January 1991: ESDI, advanced school of industrial design, Paris.
1991: worked for the Philippe Starck design firm.
1992 to 1997: freelance designer. Collaborated with Jean-Jacques Ory (architect), Didier
Gomez (interior designer) and Didier Saco Design.
Customers: Stradal, Cristal de Sèvres, communities of Ajaccio, Porticcio and Propriano,
Corsica.
1997: Thierry won the McDonald’s competition with the agency Sylvie Blanchet.
Designed seven drive-in restaurant concepts for McDonald’s: interior design, indoor and
outdoor furnishings, applied to 250 restaurants until 2010.
2001: Partnership with Sylvie Blanchet (interior decorator) whose agency changes name to
become Blanchet-d’Istria.
Restaurant concepts for McDonald’s Japan, Guadeloupe and Martinique, Compass SSP,
Autogrill, Sushiwest, Chaak, Beau Manger, Groupe Akwa (Oasis café…), Groupe Bertrand
