County, and of Margaret Thompson, of New
Carlisle, widow of the late Judge Thompson,
in his lifetime Judge of the Superior Court
of the Province of Quebec.

The Governor General communicated to the
Senate the accompanying copy of a despatch received by Lord Monck from the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, in answer
to the Address voted to Her Majesty on the
28th April, 1868.

30th April, in which you submitted an expression of your sympathy with Her Majesty
on the occasion of the attempted assassination
of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh,

adopted by both Houses of the Canadian Par-

Her Majesty was pleased to receive very
graciously the despatch of your Lordship's
sympathy tendered by you.
The Queen commands me to state that she
received with deep satisfaction the address of
the Canadian Parliament, and that in this
and in all other trials she derives consolidation
and support from the affectionate attachment
of her people in all parts of her Dominion.

Hon. Mr. Campbell acquainted the House
that he had another message from His Excellency the Governor General, under his sign
manual, which His Excellency had commanded
him to deliver to the House.
His Excellency the Governor General transmits for the information of the Senate, a copy
of the Canada Gazette, by authority, dated
December 19th, 1868, by which it will be seen
this His Excellency was pleased to appoint
Aquila Walsh, Esq., M.P., the Honourable
Edward Barron Chandler, Charles John Brydges, Esquire, and William Foster Coffin, Esquire, as Commissioners of the Intercolonial
Railway, under Statute 31st Vic., cap. 13.

next, the 22nd instant—For an address to His
Excellency the Governor General, praying that
His Excellency will be pleased to cause to be
laid before the House copies of:
1st. All papers and documents relating to
the accusation, trial, and condemnation of the
Rev. John McMahon, a Roman Catholic Priest,
after the invasion of the Fenians in the County
of Welland, in the Province of Ontario, on
the second day of July, 1866.
2nd. All petitions and memorials praying
for the pardon of the said Rev. John McMahon, or the commutation of his sentence.
3rd. And notes or report of the Judge who
presided at the trial of the said Rev. John
McMahon, addressed to the Governor in Council, and all reports of Council, or Orders in
Council, on the above subject.
L'honorable M. Bureau: pour le jeudi, 22
avril 1869, priant Son Excellence de bien
vouloir faire déposer à la Chambre les documents suivants:

the subject of an Address of this House to His
Excellency the Governor General, adopted on
the 15th May, 1868, praying that with Her
Majesty's consent, Canadian reprints of British
copyright works may be placed on the same
footing as foreign reprints in this Province.
le Gouvernement de Grande-Bretagne et celui
du Canada au sujet d'une Adresse de cette
Chambre à Son Excellence le Gouverneur
Général, adoptée le 15 mai 1868, et priant
qu'avec le consentement de Sa Majesté, la reproduction canadienne d'ouvrages dont les
droits de reproduction sont réservés en
Grande-Bretagne, soit mise sur le même pied
que les reproductions étrangères dans cette
province.
Hon. Mr. Campbell laid on the table a list
of the various committees which were
ordered to remain until the next sitting of
the House.
On a motion of the Hon. Mr. Campbell the
House then adjourned until to-morrow at
3 o'clock p.m.
